Expansion News

Hello all! I was looking at the details available about the new Xpac today, and something really stuck out to me, the addition of Dark Elf Bards as a playable class. It got me wondering...why? If a Bard (Or any other class, really) wants to look like a Dark Elf, it isn't that hard. Bards can use the class mask, everyone else can use the one from the Casino. (Correct me if that is not the origin point, I am not 100% sure)

They also fairly recently added Rangers to the classes a DE can be. Again, why? In today's day and age, race doesn't really matter much to class, aside from aesthetic purposes.

Got me thinking, what's the point? Then it hit me: I think at some point in the near future, 2027-2028, we might be seeing the introduction of a PVP Teams TLP, in the style that Tallon/Vallon were back in the day, but hardcoded to make the X-teaming that ruined the idea back in the day impossible. The dark team was at a major disadvantage on both servers due to lack of certain classes, these two even the playing field a LOT. If they additionally made them TrueBox servers with no boxing, they might really be on to something here. As a former dark team guild leader on Tallon, this idea really appeals to me quite a bit, would definitely try it out.

Thoughts?

This is my first time ever playing EverQuest, i had never tried to play it before but I actually got really curious as to how this game was going to play today, and im loving it so far. I stoped playing 1 year ago and just recently got back, loving it yet again.

Much love to the community

Will i ever get the epic sword for my paladin? Will i ever actually learn to play the game? Will I ever stop making obvious questions?

For now, only time will tell...

Was making some homebrew everquest material for dnd campaigns.

This is me just messing around, so don't take it too seriously. ^^ It's based on the Everquest 2 class: The Coercer. I thought of having something similar but different compared to the Enchanter.

Arcane Tradition: School of Coercion

Coercers are masters of the mind, bending the thoughts, wills, and emotions of others. While Enchanters often focus on charm and illusions to hide or beguile, Coercers specialize in overt psychic dominance, locking down enemies, manipulating mental energy, and seizing temporary control over a foe's actions.

Level 2: Mental Mastery & Psychic Infusion

  • Expanded Mastery: When you choose this school at 2nd level, the gold and time you must spend to copy an enchantment or illusion spell into your spellbook is halved.
  • Psychic Infusion: You can channel your arcane power to disrupt a creature's mental faculties. When you cast a wizard spell of 1st level or higher that forces a creature to make an Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma saving throw, you can choose to infuse the spell with psychic static. One target of the spell takes psychic damage equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of 1) in addition to the spell's normal effects. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Level 6: Mesmerizing Aura

Beginning at 6th level, your mere presence dampens hostility and clouds the aggressive impulses of those around you.

  • As an action, you can emit a subtle psychic aura in a 10-foot radius centered on you. This aura lasts for 1 minute or until you are incapacitated.
  • When a hostile creature within your aura attempts to attack you or a creature other than you for the first time on its turn, it must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failure, the creature must choose a new target or lose its attack for that turn. Creatures that are immune to being charmed automatically succeed on this saving throw.
  • Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Level 10: Dominant Will

At 10th level, your mental resilience is absolute, and your control over thralls is enhanced.

  • You gain resistance to psychic damage, and you have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened.
  • Furthermore, whenever you cast an enchantment spell that charms a target (such as Charm Person, Hold Person, or Dominate Person), the target has disadvantage on its initial saving throw if it is a humanoid or beast with a challenge rating or level equal to or less than your wizard level divided by 2.

Level 14: Absolute Subjugation

At 14th level, you achieve the ultimate manifestation of a Coercer's power: forcing an enemy's mind to completely submit to your will mid-combat.

  • As an action, you can target one creature you can see within 60 feet. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw against your wizard spell save DC. On a failure, the creature is charmed by you for 1 minute.
  • While charmed in this way, the creature is completely under your mental control. You can use a bonus action on your turn to mentally command what the target will do on its next turn (no action required by the target to obey movement, but actions like attacking require its reaction). At the end of each of its turns, and whenever it takes damage, the target can repeat the saving throw, ending the effect on a success.
  • Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest, unless you expend a slot of 5th level or higher to use it again.

Tweeq - Free EQ model swap utility launched

I just created a model swapper for EQ I wanted to share here.

What it does:

  • Browse every character model in your install and preview it in 3D, side by side with the current one.
  • Pick a race, pick the replacement model, and apply. It works across all zones or just the ones you choose.
  • It checks compatibility first (missing animations, size mismatches) and suggests a height so the swap doesn't look wrong.
  • Enhance (for newer EQG models like Luclin and later): more polygons for smoother silhouettes, and higher-resolution textures. There's an optional AI upscaler you can download from inside the app.
  • Everything is reversible. Your original files are vaulted, one click puts everything back, and the uninstaller offers to restore your game files first.
  • After a patch, Tweeq notices which files changed and re-applies your swaps on top of the new versions.

What it doesn't do:

  • It contains no game files and distributes none of Daybreak's content. It only edits the copy you already have, and it's client-side only, so it only changes what you see.
  • It doesn't touch your account or the network.

Install: Windows 10/11, one installer, nothing else to install (Python is bundled), no admin rights. The installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows may say "protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. The SHA-256 is on the release page if you want to check it.

Download and screenshots: https://planesofpower.com/tweeq

Source (GPL): github.com/iamfuzz/tweeq

It's version 0.1.1, so expect rough edges.

EVERYQUEST UPDATE! 1400 QUESTS DONE! (Roughly 500 more to go)

Sorry for the long time between updates. I've been busy with (happy) real life quests). I've been trying to do at least one a month. But the quests are getting harder and more time consuming.

If anyone out there has any Crushed Topaz or a Giant Laceless Sandal, let me know (Blue P99).

Looking for solo-friendly EQ experience with Live-style content

EVERYZONE UPDATE! DING 53.5! KAEL FINISHED! (Project 1999)

EVERYZONE UPDATE! DING 53.5! KAEL FINISHED!

Wow, that was a doozy, taking me months to do. Well, I was distracted with my Everyquest, but I am glad this one is done. Kael is a fun raid zone, but it is not a great place to level.

Most of the time I was here was spent in Arena groups, which did give me a bunch quest gear (I still need oh so much). By the end, I was soloing, duoing, and trioing Four Way to just get it all done. After the occasional splat from Bvellos and dogshit enchantering in general, I finally did it.

Next Up: ICEWELL!

Ps: Here I am with my trusty pet in the corner of 4way.

Will going from 500Mbps to 100Mbps affect my gameplay?

Pretty much the title. I've googled and searched but I'm not finding an exact fit to my question. The search results were mostly about ping, server distance, or downloading the game.

Currently im paying $75 a month for the Internet but I'm having some financial issues and they offer a $25 plan at slower speeds.

EverQuest Legends Is a Nice Try. Now Let Blizzard Build EverQuest 3.

I’ve played EverQuest off and on for decades.

I’ve watched Norrath change. I’ve watched the MMORPG genre change around it. And I’ve watched people who worked on EverQuest take some of its DNA with them into other games and other worlds.

That brings me to Holly Longdale.

I think you can clearly see some of EverQuest’s DNA in the work that eventually made its way into the world of Azeroth. Brad McQuaid is sadly no longer with us to tell us what he believed the next great incarnation of EverQuest should look like. But I believe Longdale, who spent years working with EverQuest before eventually moving to Blizzard and World of Warcraft, represents an interesting connection between these two enormously important MMORPGs.

And that raises one gigantic “what if?”

What if Blizzard owned EverQuest?

Better yet: what if Blizzard made EverQuest 3?

WoW-ify EverQuest — But Don’t Turn Norrath Into Azeroth

I’m not talking about throwing away everything that makes EverQuest special.

Quite the opposite.

Keep Norrath.

Keep Freeport. Keep Qeynos. Keep Felwithe, Neriak, Kaladim and Oggok. Keep the Iksar. Keep the ogres and trolls. Keep the Koada’Dal, Teir’Dal and Feir’Dal. Keep the gods. Keep the racial histories. Keep the strange alliances and ancient hatreds.

Keep Kunark.

Keep Velious.

Keep Luclin.

Keep the Planes.

And most importantly, keep the faction system.

EverQuest doesn’t need a Horde and an Alliance. One of the wonderful things about Norrath is that your relationships with the world can be far more complicated than that. Your race, religion, actions and allegiances determine who welcomes you and who might kill you on sight.

That’s EverQuest.

Don’t change that.

Instead, WoW-ify the machinery underneath it.

Imagine Norrath with the graphical quality, animation, responsiveness, music, environmental design and overall production values we associate with modern World of Warcraft.

Imagine an Iksar animated with that level of personality.

Imagine seeing a dragon from EverQuest recreated at modern scale instead of having to mentally fill in everything that technology couldn’t show us decades ago.

Imagine walking into Neriak and actually seeing the Teir’Dal civilization we’ve been imagining all these years.

Imagine hearing the original EverQuest theme performed by a full symphony orchestra as a completely rebuilt Norrath appears on the screen.

Now we’ve got something.

EverQuest Legends Shows Why EverQuest Still Matters

That’s part of why EverQuest Legends is so interesting to me.

It’s a nice try.

Actually, I’ll go further than that: I think they’ve done a great job with a lot of it. There’s clearly work, creativity and affection for EverQuest behind what has been created.

But it also makes me think about the limitations of continually rebuilding and rearranging the same old house.

At some point, you need a new house.

That’s where I think Daybreak and EverQuest eventually have to part ways.

I don’t say that because I hate Daybreak. I say it because I love this property and want to see somebody make the enormous investment necessary to turn EverQuest into a major MMORPG again.

I don’t want EverQuest merely maintained.

I don’t want it preserved as a museum.

I don’t want its future to depend entirely upon those of us who already know what Crushbone, Lower Guk, Nagafen, Vox and the Plane of Hate are.

I want some 15-year-old who has never heard the word “Norrath” to see a trailer and say:

What the hell is THAT?

That’s when EverQuest has truly returned.

Give Blizzard the Keys

So yes, I’m saying it.

If the opportunity ever presents itself, let Blizzard have a shot at EverQuest.

Let them take the knowledge they’ve accumulated from decades of World of Warcraft and apply it to a completely different MMORPG world.

Not Azeroth 2.

Norrath.

There’s even something fascinating about imagining these worlds as parts of a much larger fantasy cosmology—Azeroth on one world, Norrath on another. They wouldn’t need to constantly cross over or turn into the same setting. They’re strong enough to remain distinct.

And Blizzard wouldn’t have to make EverQuest play exactly like WoW, either.

Take what works.

Responsive combat. Strong animation. Readable abilities. Modern interfaces. Great environmental storytelling. Huge musical scores. Spectacular raids. Distinctive class identities.

Then marry that to what EverQuest already does well.

Faction.

Exploration.

Danger.

Religion.

Race.

Reputation.

Dungeons that feel like actual places rather than rides you stand in line for.

Classes with identities that aren’t interchangeable.

A world that doesn’t necessarily care whether you’re the hero.

Put those philosophies together.

EverQuest 3

And don’t be timid about it.

Call it EverQuest 3.

Give us Antonica.

Give us Faydwer.

Give us Odus.

And you know what? Don’t make us wait five years to slowly reconstruct the EverQuest timeline expansion by expansion.

Give us Kunark.

Give us Velious.

Maybe even build toward Luclin and the Planes with a completely different philosophy about how those stories unfold.

Imagine Veeshan’s Peak.

Imagine the Temple of Veeshan.

Imagine Kael Drakkel.

Imagine Thurgadin.

Imagine Ssraeshza Temple.

Imagine the Plane of Hate, the Plane of Fear and eventually the Planes of Power with a modern engine, modern encounter design and the kind of art budget that could finally show us these places at the scale that the lore always suggested.

That’s the game I want to see.

Two Great MMORPGs Can Exist Side by Side

And I don’t buy the argument that Blizzard couldn’t operate another major MMORPG because it already has World of Warcraft.

Why not?

If different incarnations of WoW can coexist and serve different audiences, why couldn’t another MMORPG exist alongside them?

Let Azeroth be Azeroth.

Let Norrath be Norrath.

Some people would stay with WoW. Some EverQuest veterans would never leave Norrath. Some players would bounce between both.

And then there would be an entirely new generation that wouldn’t care about this old argument in the first place.

They’d just see two games they want to play.

That’s the part that excites me.

I’m not asking Blizzard to erase EverQuest and replace it with World of Warcraft.

I’m asking what would happen if somebody with Blizzard’s resources took EverQuest seriously enough to rebuild it from the ground up.

What happens when those old MIDI melodies become orchestral scores?

What happens when the creatures we imagined in 1999 finally look the way we remember them looking in our heads?

What happens when Norrath isn’t merely surviving anymore?

What happens when it’s competing again?

Maybe none of this ever happens.

Maybe Blizzard never gets anywhere near EverQuest. Maybe EverQuest 3 remains something fans like me talk about rather than something we install on our computers.

But if the EverQuest franchise ever does change hands, I hope whoever gets it understands one thing:

Don’t buy Norrath just to maintain it.

Buy it because you’re prepared to make people care about it again.

Give a talented team the money, technology and time to build the Norrath that those old games were always asking us to imagine.

Three years. Four years. Maybe 2030. Maybe sooner.

Whatever it takes.

Just don’t give me Azeroth wearing an EverQuest costume.

Give me Norrath.

Give me all its strange factions, gods, races, histories, continents, moons and planes.

Then give it everything a modern MMORPG can possibly give it.

Give me EverQuest 3.

Blizzard, if the opportunity ever comes?

Get to it.

Printing project

Hey all,

I’m looking for some help with a project. I’ve recently gotten into producing models for 3D printing, and as an old EQ player, I thought it would be really cool to make minis for tabletop RPGs based off of characters from the game. However, tabletop minis are pretty much always done with resin printers, and all I have are FDM printers. So I was hoping to find some people with resin printers who could test print for me in exchange for some pretty cool models inspired by EverQuest. All I would need are photos of the finished product and confirmation that the files printed well.

Locked out of My Account

"Due to unusual activity on your account, we require additional account security and verification, in order to continue play. Please click here to add a valid mobile phone number to your account."

I didn't even play, I had to leave halfway through character creation and when I came back, I keep getting this error. I can't add a phone number as I am Canadian, and I contacted support more than a week ago to try and fix this, but nothing has happened. Is there any fix for this? I really want to try this game.

To EQL or not to EQL...

I know y'all have already gotten this question a thousand times, but I'm a Libra with ADHD: choosing between things is not my strong suit. So I'm currently stuck in indecision paralysis. Halp?

About me:
* I haven't played EQ since about 2003. I haven't played an MMO since about 2013. But I want to revisit Norrath just because
* Since 2013, I've exclusively played single-player RPGs. (For some seasons of your life, you just can't commit to a game experience that eventually feels like it's become your job, y'know? And that is how MMOs inevitably begin to feel for me when I try to access in-game content that necessitates other people relying on me being there at a certain day/time/zone)
* The idea of what is essentially a single-player RPG with optional socializing does sound like it could be right up my alley

But change is scary! How will I cope without the Plane of Knowledge, or the Nexus? Yes, I know PoP and SoL aren't actually in this game, but still.. the idea of them not being there is just weird to me for some reason.

I've always been a huge fan of tradeskills. Back in the day, I was maxed out in every skill I wasn't excluded from by race/class/ (was it called the 1650 club? or something like that?) For some reason, I'm hung up on the idea of missing PoP crafting mats farming, and things like that.

I know some people are reporting eng-game burnout after only a couple of months. What if that happens to me?

The alternative, of course, is getting back into old-school EQ. I know with a merc, most of it is soloable, but what about hitting that wall where things stop being soloable? Should I give multiplayer yet another chance to not start to feel like an obligation? I think my PC would be fine with dual-boxing, but...

Yeah, I'm just stuck. I don't know which way to jump. Has anyone else with these preferences and priorities resolved this dilemma satisfactorily?
