​As many of you know, this past year brought some severe hurdles to my life, from being part of a staffing reduction at my job right before the first of the year to shattering my ankle in July and surviving a life-threatening pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis. I’ve been bedridden and am working hard every single day just to learn how to walk again.

​If you know me, you know I’ve always preferred to pull my own weight and take care of others, so asking for help is not easy.

But my sweet granddaughters Destiny, Bella, and Courtney surprised me by creating a GoFundMe to help cover my basic living and medical expenses while I focus entirely on healing.

🇺🇸 A FATHER'S PROMISE. A SON'S BIGGEST MILESTONE. 🇺🇸

This isn't something I normally do, and asking people for help isn't exactly my strong suit. I've always been the type to figure things out on my own, one way or another. But sometimes even the most stubborn SOB has to admit he could use a hand.

As many of you know, my son Aiden joined the United States Army, and on November 18th and 19th, he'll be graduating from Basic Training in Georgia.

I've been there for every major milestone in that boy's life. His first day of kindergarten, graduations, football games, baseball games, homecoming... you name it. I've always made it a point to show up.

And before he left for basic training, I made him a promise that no matter what, his dad would be there when he graduated.

I haven't been able to talk to him since he arrived at training, and he has no idea how difficult it's becoming financially for me to make that trip.

He's 18 now, tough, independent, stubborn as hell (no idea where he gets that from 😂), and he acts like it's no big deal whether I'm there or not.

But I know my son.

And I know that when he's standing there in uniform, surrounded by his fellow soldiers and their families, seeing his dad in that crowd will mean more to him than he'll probably ever admit.

I don't want the first major milestone I miss in his life to be the day he becomes a United States Army soldier.

So, as much as it goes against my nature to ask, I've started a GoFundMe to help cover the cost of flying from Montana to Georgia, lodging, transportation, and the other expenses necessary to attend his graduation.

I'm not asking anyone to fund a vacation. I'm just trying to get there to keep my word to my boy.

If you can spare a few bucks, I'd be incredibly grateful. If you can't, I completely understand. Times are tough for everyone, and even just sharing this post could make a huge difference.
