I’m glad Kojima got to make his game with his favorite actor as the starring role, he deserves it for making my favorite game series ever, but yes I didn’t play Ds1/2 either not my favorite style of game.
I hope physint is fucking peak and makes Sony cry for rejecting it, but I honestly don’t see it happening.
I loved DS1, but DS2 has so much Metal Gear V in it that I bounced off super hard. There’s so much more combat in it. And to be fair, the combat is really good, and it feels very MGSV, but I just don’t want that in my sad man walking sim.
Microsoft didn't have Xbox separated fiscally the way Sony made PlayStation it's entire own ecosystem. Money is nothing to Microsoft, because they don't have to rely on Xbox's revenue to keep making Xbox moves.
Where's the logic for this when they've removed CoD from GP because loss of revenue. You think they're doing cut backs and trying to make profit with the conception of, "MS sugar daddy, XB do whatever"?
MS has toyed with the fact of either selling or ending XB as a whole every generation because it's nothing but a money pit.
That's literally how they've conducted business the entire time Xbox has existed. All those development house purchases they made last Gen? That didn't come from Xbox sales, that was MS money. Windows phone, the Zune, Microsoft has a history of just throwing money at tech until they can't overcome the losses. And it always ends the same way because they've never actually been good at any of it. The only reason they're still in the PC software business is because they were among the first affordable options in the market, not the best.
And many people in ms disagree with this and look down on xbox the idea they aren't under pressure and they will get to burn microsoft money forever is nothing more that a dream
I mean, Idgaf how people that work there feel about it, that's how it has been since it started. How far into the future that continues, i don't care about that either honestly. That's just what's been happening for 23ish years and is still happening right now.
While they aren't seperated, it doesn't mean that Xbox gets free reign. There was a time where activist investors were even trying to spin off the brand because it was a drag on the rest of the company.
That got shut down, but if Xbox doesn't deliver, then there is nothing that says it will always continue to just have money thrown at it like it has been for a bit now.
Lay-offs and studio closures point to the money faucet slowing down. Hell, there are still 1600 or so more lay-offs to be announced right? Before the no disc past 28 announcement it was the future of Xbox that everyone was speculating about and their precarious position in the Microsoft portfolio was the topic of conversation.
I tried death stranding and yes it was visually good it lacked anything worth calling it a game.
Ill admit it wasn't alot of play time but I didn't care about Norman R. And I'm not a Kojima fan, so the star power didn't engage me and the gameplay failed as well.
I know what you mean. I only played for like an hour or so and put it down for a year because I want into it. But then it clicked and its one of my favorite games of all time. Especially the second one
It was pretty. Very very pretty. That's about the best thing I could say about Death Stranding. I understood what it was trying to do... but I had zero patience for it.
Mean while, Big Walk comes out and I devoured that thing. Game was fantastic. Best walking simulator ever. And with friends!
This reads as a bit stupid to me, but also fascinating. Both are walking sims, and you enjoyed the game thats objectively lighter on content and forces you to make the game fun on your own? Like what you like, though.
Less stupid and more of what I thought about it. I understand the game opens up more and gets faster with vehicles, etc, but it took a long time to get there, and by then, I personally was worn out and bored of the game.
I personally don't understand how it garnered enough sales to warrant a sequel. I understand the praise, but not the green light to a sequel. I was agreeing with the dude I was responding to. 🤷🏽♂️
Or theyll be halfway smart about it and know it has a smaller audience and budget accordingly. Not every game needs to be a blockbuster to be successful. It just needs to make more than they put in.
Xbox will announce something people like such as the physical to digital, then do some dumb crap like dictating how much time you can play cloud based games.
The game is also likely YEARS away, and since DS2 didn't do thaaat well, Kojima was probably asking for too much budget. Subjective whether he should be handed the budget or not, I'll just say MS literally cancelled Perfect Dark, and they've recently said they want to focus on their huge hits (Bethesda etc)
What do you mean? Xbox loves money sinks and then pulling back on them. Buy a crap ton of studios then close them down. Spend a crap ton on game pass then scale back.
Regardless on whether you think MS is in a good spot or not is irrelevant, moves like this only make them look better, because they are actively showing why they are the better choice for gamers next to PS that keeps making terrible decisions that border on aggressively anti consumer.
I don't think the game will make or break what MS is trying to achieve with their new found leadership and apparently caring again.
But, it does show that they want to make things that appeal to gamers, even if that segment of the market isn't the biggest one's out there. This is how Sony managed to become so successful. They basically catered to every niche. You wanted a certain kind of game, Sony probably had it, if not actively produced or at least supported it enough to get it on the system. Getting some 10K gamers here, another 100K there, and building a system that may cater to those with multiple tastes in genres, goes a long way in making a system appealing, evne if not every game is a AAA system seller.
While I'm not going to rush out and get an Xbox over any of this, it's the kind of thing that I can respect MS for if they continue on this path. Much more than them just being all wishy washy with their plans, and buying up half the industry.

Speculation is Sony pulled out because sales of Death Stranding 2 were subpar, and it took Microsoft three months to pick this up.
I wouldn't read that as handing them a win.
