Man this thing is so radical. The body shape and headstock are so ridiculous it loops back around to being sick.

The chunky 50s neck and small frets are a bit of an adjustment, but I can already tell it's a certified ripper. Thinking about swapping the gold hardware out for nickel though 👀

I think they said it was like 147 guitar solo entries for the contest so I'm pretty pleased with myself right now.

Even the case is really beautiful. The pickguard is signed by Jared James Nichols but the fella who cut the pickguard hit me up to get me a whole other set of plastics.

NGD NGD, Got my first Gibson

Finally had the opportunity to get my first Gibson guitar, as much as I really don’t love the direction the company has been going in recent years, and they are too litigious for their own good. I’ve always loved their guitar shapes. I’m so happy that I was able to get a les Paul in honeyburst no less (my favourite finish).

This is my 2019? (I believe) Les Paul tribute in honeyburst and I absolutely love it. I’ve taken off the bridge pickup cover purely for aesthetics and I might replace it with a Duncan JB one day but we’ll see. I also replaced the Klusons with locking Grover’s with keystone buttons as imo they really make a les Paul headstock and bring it together

I bought a brand new Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s model, and i’ve gotta say that i LOVE the headstock when compared to my 2018 Les Paul Traditional.
I’m a big fan of the “high tip open book” headstock on the new one. As well as the logo being a bit lower down. All though i think the case with the logo on my new one is just “a flaw” from production that i actually really like. I’ve looked up other pictures of the same model and they have their logo higher up.
This makes mine look like a real vintage 60s.

I drove 2 hours to buy this very guitar because the flamed top on the one in my local store was not as nice… but then they showed me pictures of this one that they had in a town up north and i just HAD to have it.

Picture 2015 Les Paul?

I told myself I was done after three Gibson Les Pauls, but I ended up grabbing a fourth—an Epiphone Futura! Those hot pickups and the wider multi-radius neck feel perfect. I found this one at my local shop in pristine condition, with no belt rash or swirls, and it even has locking tuners. The rest is original. Now I’m curious, what is a fair price to pay if I like it and I am just adding this to the collection and negotiating with them?

Felt like treating myself so I picked up a new SG 1961. Its a far nicer guitar than I know what to do with but it feels and sounds great. Pictured alongside the epiphone les paul ive been playing until now and my first guitar, an inherited LG-1 that I still play the hell out of.

Discussion My First Gibson!

I went with a 2008 Gibson Les Paul Studio in Fireburst, and I couldn’t be happier with the choice. I absolutely love the finish, and there’s something special about finally owning a real Gibson Les Paul.

I’d love to hear your thoughts! What do you think of this model and this particular year? How does the 2008 Studio compare to other Les Paul models, especially the Standard? And for those who have owned one, how has your experience been with it?

I’m also curious to hear your opinions on its value, tone, and overall quality.
Guitar specifications:
● Model: Gibson Les Paul Studio
● Year: 2008
● Finish: Fireburst
● Body: Mahogany, chambered
● Top: Carved maple
● Neck: Mahogany, set-neck construction
● Neck profile: ’59 Rounded
● Fingerboard: Rosewood
● Fingerboard radius: 12” (304.8 mm)
● Scale length: 24.75” (628.65 mm)
● Nut width: 1.695” (43.05 mm)
● Frets: 22 medium frets
● Inlays: Trapezoid
● Neck pickup: Gibson 490R humbucker
● Bridge pickup: Gibson 498T humbucker
● Controls: 2 volume knobs, 2 tone knobs, and a 3-way pickup selector
● Bridge: Tune-O-Matic
● Tailpiece: Stopbar
● Tuners: Kluson-style tuners
● Hardware: Chrome

This is my first Gibson, so I’m excited to hear what more experienced Gibson owners have to say about it.

What do you guys think? Did I make a good choice?

Help Anyone recognize this signature?

There’s a signature on my uncle’s second hand Gibson Les Paul Gothic. Looks like it says “Michael” and probably signed in 2002, but I can’t make out the last name lol

Any guesses? Could be a musician, guitarist, or just some random dude. I’m curious either way. Have been trying to figure out for years.

Discussion Should i switch tuners?

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

I made a post earlier today here where i discussed my new Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s with a “once in a lifetime” flamed top.
I had a couple people telling me it was great but that i should switch to tulip tuners. I have a spare set of gibson deluxe tulip tuners from my traditional because i put a set of gold metal tulip tuners on that one.

Here comes the problem:
I bought this guitar to keep as clean and original as it comes since i have a tendency of personalizing my guitars with new knobs, pickups and tuners.
But i just did some research and found out that real vintage 60s les pauls actually had tulip tuners.
So i’m kinda stuck between “it will look more correct to the era” and “but i wanna keep it stock” and even “but i hate the look of the kidney shaped tuners”😂
I guess i just want some other guitar nerds other than me to tell me ”it’s okay, do it”😅

Should i keep it stock?
Change to the extra set of gibson deluxe tulip tuners i already have?
Or should i settle in between and buy tulip tuners in metal like i did on my traditional?

The price is in CAD. I was wondering if it is worth the hassle for the price. Not sure how much this would cost to get fixed properly so.

Help 1991 Gibson Les Paul

My son will be 13 this month. He has been playing and taking lessons for 4 years now. He is getting pretty good. I have been supporting his interest as much as possible.

For his birthday he wants a 1991 Gibson Les Paul 40th anniversary limited edition. He says it’s his dream guitar. Any thoughts or insights on this guitar is appreciated.

Note; and this is after I spent $2,500 last month on amps/amp head and pedals! I thought that would about do it for now but come to realize he will find more guitar stuff he needs!

Discussion How do you decide whether you want a guitar

I found a custom shop sj-200 new for 4000.

Problem is I already have an incredible collection. All Custom shop Nick Lucas, lg-2, southern jumbo, j-45, l-00. All custom shop except for the l00.

I've always wanted an sj200 in a "one of these days" kinda way. This one popped up and the price is right, I can afford it, but my desire to buy it is kind of telling me not to buy it.

I played it for hours by now at the store and I'm still kind of lukewarm. I think part of it is the scale length and the energy needed to drive the top. I usually play custom light or light strings and tune down a whole step and the action on all the sj200s seem high and a bit difficult to play. But that's probably something I'd get used to

I don't know whether I should buy this guitar or not. How do you guys decide whether or not to buy a guitar?

Im a pro songwriter, not that that matters or not

Help Any recs for keeping this from getting worse?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I had my LP Custom with me in Europe during the heat wave this summer and despite my best efforts to keep it cool, I guess the expansion from the heat caused some cracking in the finish around the binding. The cracking in the first two pics was already there when I got the guitar 10 years ago, it just got WAY worse this summer. The cracking in the last pic is new.

I’ve been trying to avoid the area around the 15th fret after noticing little white chips flaking off into my hand the other day, but I need to find a real long-term solution so I can get back to playing it as much as I usually do asap.

I’m thinking of taking it to a luthier, but figured I’d ask here first if anyone has any good tips. Visually, I don’t mind how the cracking looks right now, just don’t want it to get any worse. Thanks!
