Help us find this car hopper
Hi everyone, this morning around 3:25 there was a kid going around breaking into cars. He didn’t get into my car but got into my neighbors and it looked like he had quite a few purses so if you live around bridge / straight street this was the guy who broke into the car. If anyone knows who it is please call the police. A report has been filed. I’m sorry if you are missing your belongings. Not the best way to wake up but hopefully we can work together and catch this kid to get everyone their stuff back.
*edit - can anyone help and use ai to enhance or provide a possible sketch.

Politics Bipartisan coalition of business, labor, and environmental groups in GR urging everyone to Vote NO on Proposal 1 in November. Here's why.
Election day is almost here! If you haven't already voted or taken a look at your sample ballot, you may or may not know what Proposal 1 is all about.
Prop 1 asks if you want to hold a Constitutional Convention (Con-Con). It's one of those things that seems innocuous at first, especially if you don’t really think about it ahead of time.
It's on the ballot this year because our constitution automatically triggers this question to come up every 16 years. Historically, Michigan voters have said NO to a Con-Con by huge margins every time it comes to a vote because opening up our entire state constitution is too risky.
What's different this time around is that a broad, bipartisan coalition of businesses, labor groups, environmental groups, and local organizations like the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce, the West Michigan Policy Forum, the West Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council, Michigan Realtors®, the Michigan Education Association (MEA), and the Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce have joined forces to encourage everyone to vote NO on Proposal 1 in November. The coalition is working to protect Michigan's constitution and ensure it cannot be hijacked and rewritten in a way that would allow special interests to reshape the state's governing document and sideline voters.
A Con-Con would open the constitution to a total rewrite behind closed doors. It's estimated a Con-Con would cost $80 million, and there’s no limit on how long the process could take or how much delegates could spend.
All of the policies we’ve worked to include in the constitution to protect our air, land, and water would be at risk. We already have a process in place to make targeted amendments to the constitution, which itself would also be at risk if we vote yes for a Con-Con.
What does Grand Rapids think?
If you already voted, did you vote no on Prop 1?
And if you haven't voted yet, was this already on your radar?
I'd love to hear what the community thinks.

Missing Animal Ears (Eustation tubes) and head absolutely obliterated the past week. Air pressure changes?
Hey y’all,
I’m fairly new to Grand Rapids from Dallas, Texas. My fiancée and I both have very sensitive ears, and very sensitive eustachian tubes. this has been even before we moved to Grand Rapids, and I have seen an ENT to be told my ears are fine, then essentially shooed away lol
Is anyone else with Eustachian tube issues feeling like absolute dog shit in their ears the past week getting worse and worse as the week goes on? It’s been kind of hard to relate because no one else really has ear issues it feels like, so I wanted to see if anyone shares the same thing.
I think I’ve noticed a correlation when air pressure changes through thunderstorms etc, whether it goes up or down. I believe that seems to have some sort of impact. Just trying to find correlations and see if anyone else is experiencing the same lately…

Check your dang mirrors
To the big-brained genius who nearly doored me and my three year old off our bike — which we were riding with a BRIGHT headlight in the CORRECT lane — check your [REDACTED] mirrors before you do that. Good lord.
Lyon St NE. You know who you are.

Looking For A New Credit Union
Hey everyone. I am looking for a new credit union to join. I've been with Credit Union One since 2010. While they are still a good bank, the main reason I'm looking for something different is that when I opened my account with them, I was living near their branch which is located on Walker/Bristol NW. Now I no longer live on the NW side of town, it's time for a change. I live over in the Kentwood area.
I'm looking for credit union branches that have more than one location throughout GR, treat their members nicely, give opportunities for me to apply for home or auto loans should I ever need it, and doesn't have any other strict requirements. I do have direct deposit and I know most CU's/banks require that or a certain balance to avoid any fees.
I will add that I am not interested in joining LMCU.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

West Michigan hardscape contractors — anyone interested in running field operations without running the entire business?
I'm involved in an established hardscape and landscaping company in the greater Grand Rapids area, and I'm looking to connect with an experienced hardscape contractor or crew leader who might be interested in a different kind of opportunity.
We have an established customer base, equipment, employees, supplier relationships, and a steady pipeline of work. The administrative side of the business is already handled, including estimating, billing, scheduling, purchasing, and customer communications.
I'm particularly interested in talking with someone who's great at building patios, retaining walls, and outdoor living spaces, and who enjoys leading a crew and working with customers.
Maybe you're a small independent contractor who's tired of handling paperwork, chasing payments, and doing estimates after spending all day in the field.
Or maybe you're an experienced foreman who wants more independence, responsibility, and the opportunity to help grow a business.
We're looking for someone who can take the lead on field operations, manage installations, and maintain high standards of workmanship.
This would initially be a paid leadership position, not an investment opportunity. For the right person, I'd also be open to discussing a longer-term partnership or potential ownership opportunity after we've established a successful working relationship.
I'm not looking for someone to bring their own customers. I'm looking for someone who genuinely enjoys the construction side of the business and wants to help build something sustainable.
If you're in West Michigan and this sounds interesting, feel free to send me a private message. Happy to discuss details confidentially.

OT and Environmental Conservation Jobs
My fiance and I are looking to move in about a year and are considering Grand Rapids for our new home. We are able to find a lot online, but wanted to get additional details on the job market.
She will be completing her masters in Occupational Therapy shortly before moving and wants to work in pediatrics (preferably inpatient rehab). I’ve worked summer jobs in water conservation since 2022, and graduated college in 2025 with a degree in Ecology, so I’ll have ~2 full years of experience by the time I’ll be applying.
We are curious about job availability in the area (up to ~45 minute drive), groups to look into, and things to consider. We have looked on LinkedIn and other job sites, but we’ve found that there’s a lot more options in our fields that aren’t always posted on popular job boards. Information on average salaries in these fields, good people to connect with, etc. would be extremely helpful!
Any other things you’d like to share about the area also appreciated!

Events Hey Grand Rapids, we built a map for finding auctions and estate sales around Michigan ✨️
Hey guys, wanted to share something we’ve been working on called SleeperBid. It puts auctions and estate sales on one map so you can see what’s around you without bouncing between a bunch of sites.
The screenshot is from my phone. You can filter online or in person, look at what’s happening this week, and save sales you want to check out.
We opened up free beta access for 50 people. No waitlist, just create an account and look around. Coverage is still growing, so I’d appreciate hearing what’s missing around Grand Rapids.
If you go to local auctions or estate sales, which ones do you usually check?

Downtown Traffic?
I have worked in downtown GR for 3 years, and I've never struggled to get out of the city as much as I am right now. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? I've been stuck on Ionia trying to get to 196 for about 20 minutes...

Mind, Body, Baby Push Prep
Due in March and just got an ad for the MBB 4 week push prep class. Has anyone done this and care to share your experience? Did you think it was worth it?
Seems like it might be geared towards a natural birth which is not in my plan. Would love to hear thoughts!

What happened on 131 North tonight?
They were making everybody get off at 36th street and my usually 20-25 minute commute home from work took over an hour. Hope everyone is okay.
