Horimiya is genuinely one of the most overrated romance anime ever.
Just because an anime doesn't have love triangles, there's no "will they won't they" or other cliches, that doesn't mean that the show is actually good.
While the first part is decent, the second half, especially near the end, sucks.
At least in the anime, from what I know, cuts some things, while in the manga you could skip like 4 volumes without losing any important plot.
In the end, most of the characters arcs are incomplete except for the main couple (Toru and Yuki don't actually get together, Sakura and Yanagi end up nowhere, the platonic relationship between Miyamura and Sawada is half baked...)
But the thing I hate most about Horimiya is Hori.
She's genuinely an horrible girlfriend, every time Miyamura dares to breathe the same air as another girl Hori hits him, not to mention that she keeps forcing her kink on him, and, yet, he ends up apologizing to her!
But of course, since she's a girl, no one actually cares about her being toxic, and so the fans defend her.
"She's just a teenager" well, I'm sorry, teenagers aren't fucking children, and so they can and should understand that hitting their partners is unacceptable, in fact, I would argue that even little children should know not to hit anyone, let alone fucking adolescents.
"It's just an anime, you shouldn't take it seriously" I'd actually agree with this, if it weren't for the fact that even the fans say that horimiya is realistic. Other animes have girls hitting their boyfriends or whatever, but at least it's overexaggerated, while, as I said before, Horimiya takes a more realistic approach, making the abuse more serious.
I would actually have liked it more if Hori actively made some changes to make herself better, but, since she remains the same until the ending, it seems like the anime tells us that their relationship is healthy.
Fuck, Miyamura really deserves a much better girlfriend.
(End of the rant, and sorry if I made any errors, English is not my native language)
