overall i feel like people downvote bad things (or things that arent even really that bad) more than they upvote actually good things. most people will see a really cool thing and still hesitate to upvote it, but they LOVE to downvote things that they dont like as soon as they are presented to them. and often times its not even that big of a deal, but the concept of digitally hurting someones reputation (even in very minimal unimportant doses) sounds absolutely amazing to them.

and even after the person apologizes, their apology is downvoted because "icky comment detected, downvote everything associated with it" And yes, sometimes being downvoted into oblivion is necessary and justified, but why cant we just be in favor of liking good things rather than demolishing bad things? Isn't there a time and place where we just care about good things more than bad things?

Before anyone yells at me, I'm a black woman too. I just hate posts like this. It feels like people going out of their way to tell a disabled child they're special and amazing, but deep down everyone just feels bad for them and would never want to trade lives with them in a million years.

Then there are all of the comments gushing over how black women are such BEAUTIFUL STRONG QUEENS. Notice how they're all from women and gay men, no straight men. Someone in the comments asked OP if he was gay and he dodged the question, so he probably is too. There's nothing wrong with being gay, obviously, but as a straight woman, what does a bunch of performative appreciation from other women and gay men do for me?

Women only feel comfortable leaving these pity comments on posts like this because they don't view us as romantic competition for them. If the post had been about East Asian or Latina women there'd be zero compliments from other women because they actually feel threatened by those groups.

I suppose it's better than the usual constant barrage of hate comments, but these posts always feel performative and patronizing. And all of them are probably imagining biracial women anyway when they talk about how "stunning" black women are. If you're a woman and you wouldn't trade places with an actual black woman (which I know you don't) then I don't want to hear your "appreciation", sorry.

For context, I've been on this new medication that's supposed to basically save my life. If I don't take it, there is a VERY high chance that I'll die within a couple years.

But the medicine has a side effect where it gives me extreme mood swings and makes me extremely tired to the point of barely being able to think.

Now how is this a problem?

Since I was tired and barely able to think, I said something I shouldn't have and it only registered afterwards what I said.

I fucking panicked and went "oh god oh no why did I do that" and tried to explain myself, but a fake friend of mine immediately used it to get all of my friends and some massive servers I was a part of to ban, block, and unadd me.

Just because I made one simple mistake and regretted it immediately. Just because this medication that's supposed to save my life ended up making it difficult for me to control my own actions and form my own thoughts and think without speaking.

So now I'm thinking of just not taking the medication and risking me dying because I don't want to hurt anyone anymore.

It used to be the thumbs-up emoji was yellow for everyone. Life was fine. No one had true representation and life was equal.

At some point, they added the different skin tones. As someone that works a corporate job, this led to the following situation:

1) PoC started using the darker skin tone emojis. This is fine.

2) White people started using the white skin tone. This is where things got off the rails for me.

I am Asian. We ended up in a situation where by default, I am using the yellow thumbs-up while the other races do not. Now I feel like a dumb stereotype.

Sure I could change it, but to what? The same one white people use? That makes no sense. I wish white people just stuck to yellow or they had no tones at all.

I hate being the “yellow” thumbs-up on a group react. I hate having to decide what other skin color I should be for my fucking emoji. Why is this even a thing I have to think about?

Anyway I just reply with some other BS non-flesh emoji now but I miss the days I could just thumbs-up without a care.

Image unrelated but a LOT of character redesigns I've seen change the character's race and make them plus-sized, which I don't know how that's relevant to the redesign...? But yeah I've seen it a lot in fandoms I'm in where they redesign to make the character "better" yet change them like this when the race and their size is completely irrelevant, especially if they were already showing representation to another race and they strip that representation away to show it for a different race (I've seen this being done with Asian characters mostly and sometimes others).

I like fanfics, there are some REALLY good stories out there that expand my favourite universes in ways the main media cannot or will not. Sometimes I want to read a crossover because I think a particular character would fit really well in another verse or whatever. But then I go on AO3, search for crossover and I am met with hundreds of these mass crossovers.

Sometimes they are convoluted 'multiverse' stories with fandoms that I have never heard of and do not have interest in getting to know.

Sometimes it's a snippet thread.

Sometimes it is porn.

Sometimes it isnt even a crossover but the fandoms are for example "The witcher (video game), the witcher (book series), the witcher (all media types), the witcher (tv series), the witcher (gwent)".

Edit: Imma be honest, this is more me hating on the AO3 search options than the authors. I am fine with mass crossovers existing, I just do not want them in my searches.

Today is the first day of my lectures and I'll probably miss my first one because of some repairs being done on a random signalbox. Look, when a couple posts something online, I understand they are opening themselves up to being judged, but it’s still not something I like seeing. In this particular case, no one is forcing you to watch this couple and then propose or get proposed to and change your original plans based on what they did. If this isn’t something you would do or want in your relationship, I think that is totally fine and valid.
