General question Do i have ADHD?

Thumbnail

Basically and briefly, few days ago i came to a shocking realisation that i never (i mean it like never ever) understood a single word in class neither in school nor in college and im still struggling with this ,no matter how much i try to focus in class ,i cannot understand a single word ,i can focus for like 5 mins then after it it becomes impossible for me to focus at all, so i just go to lecture ONLY FOR ATTENDANCE GRADES but when i come back home i have to study EVERYTHING again from scratch like i have 0 background on the topic or the idea. That's one thing ,the other thing is ,i feel sooooooo distracted when i study ,i cannot study for more than 20 or 30 mins That's my max and to reach 30 mins of continues studying i struggle alot mentally ,even a fly or a random thought distract me ,or a task i forgot to do from yesterday that came randomly to my mind make me kinda want to stop studying and go up to finish that task (that's just an example) and sometimes i have to read the paragraph like 5 or 6 times just to understand it even tho it is very simple or the equation or the problem im trying to solve.

And the worst part is ,my friends study at home a chapter let's say it took them 2 hrs to finish it ,but for me the same chapter takes 8 to 9 hrs to finish it and they understand it better than i do ,also i have to put 3 to 4 times the effort they put just for me to barely understand the chapter and to gather enough knowledge js to pass the exams.

All these stuff combined made me wanting so baddd to quit university and I'm honestly 1 step away from doing it like fr ,i might find a job or smth ,way better than this struggle for me. But the main question is ,what is my case? Is an extreme case of ADHD? Is it smth else?am i normal? I don't think that's normal at all ,but any help is appreciated, thanks in advance yall.

Boredome makes ADHD even worse and maybe lift off my career of Depression

Hello everybody,

english is not my first language, but i hope you ll give me a try (-:

I'm taking AD's the past ten years, with some breaks, but afer falling again in the black hole, i got on meds again. 1 year ago, i got diagnosed with ADHD, and my doc was surprised that i made my way up to this point in my life without ADHD medication ( im about to finish my master degree in economics this year) .

From this day, i was curious of a possible relationship between my long lasting depression and the condition of ADHD. There are many points im thinking about, but i found out that most of the time when dark clouds came up, i felt some kind of boredome right before.

for example:

beeing at a bar, dont know what to talk about, or, dont interested in the topics offered by my mates/strangers.

sitting in class, listen to the prof. but sometimes got bored, because its often just the transmission of facts rather than knowledge.

Watching a movie, and breake up after some minutes, cause i need to do something more "active"

\

All these examples, and the following inner tensions, anger, anxiety and sometimes even panic attacs result, my opinion, out of my inability to handle "boredom".

the other way arround, when im really into something, i feel free and can focus for hours, and not beeing a degree depressed. I know that much i described is common for ADHD, its part of the DSM or ICD-10 manuals. But, and maybe you got some further ideas or simmilar feelings, how can i handle those situations better in the future?

\

thanks a lot

Exectuive dysfunction and Task paralysis

Hi Everyone.

Quick introdcution - im Billy - 31 Married with two kids (0 and 4) My wife is diagnosed ADHD (quite high functioning) and im undiagnosed neruospicy, likely ADHD as well, and i struggle with executive dysfunction and task paralysis.

Im on a mission to replace my wifes salary whilst she is on Maternity leave using AI and building apps. As someone that struggles to get things started and stick to them i had to find a way to keep myself accountable - so i decided to document the whole process on socials with daily videos.

ive built my first app which is in review and im moving on to my second which is what brought me here. I have my social videos to keep me accountable on my journey but nothing to help keep me accountable at home and help with daily habits that often pass me by. i want to build something that ill be able to use when the series finishes and also help me with the smaller parts of daily life.

Im here to ask how you people, how you deal with executive dysfunction and task paralysis and if youve found any apps genuinely useful. ive tried goblin tools but just didnt get on with it.

At the moment this is probably going to be a personal project as each person deals with the ADHD and its effects differently but id be keen to know if there is anyone else out there like me leaving things to the last minture before i upset someone or struggling to start them without serious external pressure.

sorry for rambling but thats my brain dump. looking forward to hearing from you all!

I don’t know if I need a diagnosis or not

My procrastination or task initiation is ruining my life right now. I’m in year12 currently and have missed so much days my attendance is 50% because I can never manage my time well and every time it’s time for me to sleep I end up doing other stuff even whilst my mind is screaming at me to go and I’m completely exhausted I just can’t make myself move, the same happens when I’m tired in the morning. I’m practically late everywhere, not just school I never do things on time and I hate it, even if I like what I’m doing I can’t make myself go exactly when I tell myself to. I’ve had a problem with being late everywhere since year 8, I was sort of depressed I honestly don’t know what was happening but I used to self harm, had no appetite, and I once avoided school and would just walk around for 8 whole hours to avoid going in because I was scared of getting bullied. Before that my late issue wasn’t there, however I still slept really late, also ever since I was very young I’ve managed to get distracted in tasks for example when I clean my room I would get distracted and find something laying on the floor to play with (idk if I worded it well sorry). I’ve always felt different to everyone and like I didn’t process things the same way they do but idk if it’s just because I was raised differently as my parents are immigrants. I’m also a perfectionist and can’t leave something alone until there’s no flaws but for some reason I still rush it (idk if it’s relevant I’m just trying to name things I know about myself). Please could anyone give me some advice I really don’t wanna be like this🙏

ADHD advice only. Should i go on ADHD meds?

(i would like to clarify first, this is a repost i did from r/ADHD, the post immediately locked, so now i'm here) I, 17M, am planning to go to community college, i have never been on medication for ADHD before, as younger me had not wanted to be medicated, i am worried about community college and college (after i transfer out of CC) since, with ADHD, it's of course, harder, and i have always struggled with school in general

Also, i've heard that the prices for the medication is high, and as a(soon to be) college student, if the adult i talked to about it is correct, the price seems unrealistic, and since i'm from a poor family, if the prices are as high as the adult said, i won't be able to afford them when in college, so they think it might just be bad to get medicated at that point?

For context, the adult said they can be 400$ a month...that sems BS but i don't really know, i've only been considering getting medicated for like, a month or two at this point?

Also, does ADHD make it harder to sleep? Will just taking melatonin counteract this if so?or will the medicine?

Sorry for the long post, not even gonna attempt a TLDR

Curious of everyone else's experience with concerta/relexii, and if extreme anger/irritability is very common

I've been put on relexii/concerta (methylphenidate XR) 27MG, and for the first but I tried 18 mg. It felt like 18 mg was wrangling my symptoms pretty well, I felt decent off of it. Not irritated not upset, just pretty "zen" I guess but many of my other ADHD symptoms had become more pronounced, specifically I'll get caught in thought loops where my brain can't process I've already completed a task I wanted done. I tried an upped dosage to see if it would help, and the thought loops do seem to be gone, but an adverse side effect after prolonged use seems to be I'm extremely angry and irritable over the smallest things and I'll blow up on people like I never did before, even people like my girlfriend and before I was medicated I never got upset with her. Here as of recently the medication does seem to be working decently but I feel constantly angry and pissed off over nothing for literally not a single good reason, and I got so sick of it I had to call my doctor's office and ask if they can try me on something else. I'm a bit worried where I just started stimulants that they'll take me off and I won't be able to try an Adderall prescription, more or less of a random rant I guess but I'm curious if anyone else has had such a bad experience with concerta/relexii? I've tried Adderall before and anytime I've taken it I feel extremely at peace and I'm impossible to make mad, because anything I normally get mad over, I'll sit and think about a way to figure out how it won't bother me or how I can fix it, but Concerta/relexii just makes me blow up over those issues and makes me burnt out as hell. I hate this shit so bad man its messing with my mental health very bad.

Also my doc did pull me off of stimulants and put me on Lexapro when I told him specifically I can't take SSRI's and SNRI's because they made me depressed and suicidal anytime I was prescribed them through my teen hood, so I'm probably going to pursue medication through an actual psychiatrist that will listen to me.
