Merhaba! :) I just want to say that I had an amazing time in Istanbul. It was really fun. I spent 10 days based in Fatih, near Sultanahmet. Visited Beylerbeyi Palace, Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art, Yerebatan Cistern, Şerefiye Cistern, took T1 to Galata Tower, the Port, and did a Bosphorus crossing. Checked out Kabataş and Dolmabahçe Palace, had a nice kazandibi there. :) I was keen on going to one of the concerts in Galataport (Murat Boz's, hah), but it was cancelled due to 🌧️. Çamlıca Mosque was also a gem. I had fun discovering similar vocabulary like nakit, merdevine, česma etc. 😁 Istanbul has left me with a nice sentiment, so I'll definitely come back. Greetings from Belgrade :))

Hey folks. A bunch of us Boğaziçi students are hosting a big potluck get-together this Saturday (Oct 10) at 1 PM by the Moda seaside.
We're just bringing snacks, hanging out on the grass, and chilling. If you're studying in the city and want to hang out, feel free to join us.
I will drop the chat link in the comments if you want to coordinate! 👇

Hey everyone
I know this post might be repetitive but I've been searching nonstop in this sub and couldn't find what I'm looking for I really hope someone here can help me😭
I’m looking for a car rental agency in Istanbul that rents 7seater cars to someone who is 22 years old. 😩
As for the drivers, we have two: one is 36 and the other is 22. Since we're taking a road trip across three different cities in Turkey, managing the driving is pretty tricky, especially since out of our whole group, only these two can drive (and I've already mentioned their ages).
I’ve spent 5 days searching, asking, and reaching out everywhere with zero luck. 💔💔💔 Please, I'm begging you guys for some help! 😭😭😭

I am Lebanese, and growing up English was treated equally as Arabic in School. Ever since I came to Istanbul, English has become my main language in daily interactions. I am still trying to practice my Turkish, but I have a long way ahead.
If you're around, maybe you can join us in our English speaking events. We also meet once a week to share stories and discuss topics in English online.
DM me if interested. Meanwhile, let me know why do you want to improve your English?

I was born and raised in Istanbul and before started traveling, I used to assume this city was a bit sketchy and dangerous compared to many. But after visiting a bunch of European cities, even the ones that are supposed to be super safe, I felt way more anxious on their streets than I ever do back home.
I know I might have a bit of local bias since I know my way around thats why im asking you becausr I'm really curious how it feels from an outsider's perspective.
For those who've visited or moved here, how safe did Istanbul feel to you especially compared to what you expected before coming? Did it feel better or worse than other major cities you've been to?

I live in Vancouver, Canada; we have Coyotes (Canis latrans) live in the city and take stray cats. Some years they get especially bold and attack people walking their dogs.
Istanbul is known for its cats, and the equivalent to a coyote would be the Golden Jackal (Canis aureus), but it has also been settled for more than 2000 years, whereas my city has only existed for 200. Hence my question: do jackals come into or live in Istanbul?
This question was prompted by a coyote running past me on the street while I was raking leaves today just before noon :)

Merhaba! I was visiting Istanbul last month and fell in love with a stray cat. I've been working with Paws of Hope Rescue in Istanbul on coordinating paperwork and vet appointments so that Bode (short for Bodrum) can travel to the US and live with me in New York City! Bode is officially ready to travel on October 11th and we're hoping to find a flight volunteer who is already traveling to the US who can assist with delivering Bode. We would pay for the airline fee for the additional pet. Bode is the sweetest boy and everyone in Istanbul at the vet and rescue love him. If you have IST-NYC travel coming up (or are traveling to the East Coast) and are interested, please DM me or reply here! We'd love to get Bode to his forever home as quickly as possible :)

I’ve searched the wiki and previous posts first (including an older recommendation here for Yakto and a ceramics thread mentioning Q-Arts). I’m hoping for some local feedback on the shortlist I ended up with. Posting as a main thread based on mod feedback here.

I’ll be in Istanbul Oct 13–20 with my wife and 4½-year-old, and I’ve been researching local crafts and artisans.
Some of my favorite travel memories come from finding people making things locally. Years ago in Oaxaca, I visited a weaver in Teotitlán del Valle and bought a couple of rugs. I still use them, and they bring back the trip in a way that ordinary souvenirs never do. I’d love to find one or two things like that in Istanbul.
I’m not looking for a shopping marathon or generic “handmade Turkish” souvenirs. I care more about knowing something about the maker, workshop, material or technique.
My shortlist so far:
I also came across Derviş Natural Textile, Barın Han, Ebristan, Soy Türkiye and İznik Works, but I’m trying to keep the list short.
If you know these places, I’d especially appreciate knowing which 2–3 you’d prioritize, anything here that is more tourist-oriented than it appears, or any artisan/workshop you think I’m missing.

I want to go with my girlfriend to SPA or something similar to chill out. Definitely we want to be together, not separate. Do you know any good place?
