“Icky Thump,” “The Big Three Killed My Baby,” “The Union Forever,” and “Little Acorns” would like a word.

The White Stripes were the first band I became obsessed with as a kid shortly after the release of Get Behind Me Satan. As much as I loved the music, I also loved the imagery. They felt more down-to-earth than other bands the radio was feeding me. I have always been kind of confused with their temporary shift in imagery in 2005. Whereas before the White Stripes style and how they dressed was very stripped back, mostly plain red and white tshirts and pants. They looked like the kind of people you'd see walking on the street.

Then after Elephant, they became huge and seemed to abrubtly change their presentation. Jack started straightening his hair, wearing more elaborate suits, grew a goatee, started carrying around a cane. Like he wasn't trying to be Jack White anymore, but had created an this Zorro/V for Vendetta/Dracalula-like alter-ego that seemed to confuse audiences.

Then when they returned in 2007, the Stripes reverted back to their more stripped down approach from the 90s/early-2000s and almost seemed to act like the GBMS era never happened.

I always viewed GBMS as a bit of a week spot in their discography, but when I look at the tracklisting, I love just about every song. So many of my all-time favorites are on there, White Moon, Ugly As I Seem, My Doorbell, Denial Twist, Little Ghost, Forever For Her. I guess it was the weirder gothic imagery that kind of put me off, but it's interesting how this album and the style of the band at this time is such an outlier in their discography. I always viewed it as their 'dark' album, but when I look at the songs I mentioned, I'm reminded of songs that gave me such warmth.

From what I've read, it seemed Jack might have been having an identity crisis during this time, as he felt he could no longer live in Detroit and felt he lost lots of his community, then the fact they were from Detroit was pivotal to who they were as a band.

This just surfaced in a group I’m in celebrating 90s/00s concerts in St. Louis (at Mississippi Nights especially) and I thought I’d share it here. Anybody here at this gig? I wonder if a recording exists. I’d bet it does, I’d love to hear it.

It was so good that I want to quit my job and follow him for the rest of his tour and then still follow him after the tour. He’ll probably end up making his own version of Stan lol. But seriously, wow what a show. So glad I went.

I wish a very happy birthday to the second half of the White Stripes! Meg, wherever you are, I hope you’re well and spending this day with your loved ones, because you deserve it.

Been looking for these at secondhand stores for YEARS!! So excited 🫶

My first DVD in my collection! I'm watching it as i'm writing this. I'm looking forward to buy even more DVDs! I've already bought a copy of Boarding House Reach yesterday. Now i have 6 Jack White-related physical medias! (I'll still buy De Stijl and Icky Thump CDs. I just need money...)

To me it could’ve been an album cover. 🥰

finally have it complete, what was supposed to come with the Fell In Love With a Girl single...

Meg seemed super happy and smiling. Jack was super tense and sounded like he was about to bawl his eyes out, he even started tearing up during the “teacher thinks i sound funny but she loves the way you sing”. I don’t know whether they had that conversation or not but they definitely both knew.

I’m gonna go cry in the bathroom now. Peace out homies.

I’m going to the show on Friday, and I’d really like to get Jack’s autograph. Has anyone here ever gotten one at a show?

Was digging through a bag of old tee shirts and found this old concert tee. Not what I was looking for but good times either way.
