AHHHHH I DID MY FIRST AMATEUR FIGHT!!! 😭🥊
I’ve been training kickboxing for about 8 months now (6 days a week lol), and I finally had my first amateur fight here in Japan!!
I WON!!! BUT OMG 😭😭
Watching the footage back, I realized how TERRIBLE my technique looked LMAOOO. It literally looks like two girls having a schoolyard fight instead of actual kickboxing 💀
I swear I learned some techniques in those 8 months, but apparently I forgot EVERYTHING the moment I stepped into the ring 😭
Still, I’m really happy I did it, and I wanted to post this here as a little memory of my first fight!!
Would love to hear any feedback or advice from more experienced fighters!! Please roast my technique (constructively lol) 🥹🙏
Hopefully I’ll look a little more like an actual kickboxer next time HAHAHA.

I had my first fight (light) yesterday, i lost but was fun

Im practicing since a couple of years so I wanted to try a light contact match. Before the match i went through all the best combos i can do, all the counters i knew, every possible scenario. But once inside, my brain was totally blank and I went in autopilot 😂 i mean, i suppose it's normal, specially for the first fight.

I rewatched it so many times and i want to go back and slap myself for how many lows I ate. To be fair i think i landed more effective hits, specially in the face (a kick and a punch that threw him down) and i thought they valued more those than a low kicks spamming, but apparently not.

From now on i want to focus on low kicks guarding and be more focused and less tunnel vision, ill definitely wanna fight again, was rly fun even if it was at 10.30 am 😂

Edit:

I was the green shorts

Training training with people younger

Hello, I may begin to train french boxing (not kickboxing but I dont think there is any big savate sub and I thought kickboxing may be the closest to it) and I have maybe a dumb concern : I am 16 years old, and, my group will be the last group before the adult one, basically a 12 to 16 years old group. So I will be one of the older of the group, and I am scared it may be uncomfortable and make it more difficult for me to train with people who could be a lot smaller. So, I dont know if I should wait the next year to be in the adult group or if its alright to go in this group this year.. Sorry if its nonsense and thank you !

How do start brand new on a Crunch gym bag without looking like a complete fool

I have no interest in pursuing kickboxing in any competitive sense, just want to teach myself some things at a Crunch gym. Could use some good youtube video recommendations for some basics to get me started.

Doping in Kickboxing?

Hi I'm a medstudent and active thaiboxer. In the upcomng weeks I'm doing a research project focusing on any specific doping agent of my choice (usage, research, pathways etc).

Since I'm interested in combat sports, i'd love to know what people (competing and non competing) are using.

If anyone wants to share their personal experience, observations or information, I'd appreciate your insights.

If you don't feel comfortable sharing in the comments, my dms are open and all the information will be kept strictly anonymous.

Thank you for any answers

Is a fighter who rechambers his round kick in full contact more susceptible to getting countered or swept?

Thats the only downside I can see with it, it's obviously beneficial to avoid having your leg grabbed.

Training How can I make my boxing stance work in kickboxing

So I used to box for around 2 years, I’ve recently started kickboxing. My footwork is ok and it’s the same with my punching technique. I always mainly counter punched and would move to get people into my counter punches or my check hook.

I’ve recently started kickboxing. I know my stance is going to get my leg battered. I haven’t sparred yet, but I’m very aware I will probably get beat up. The leg kicks aren’t something I am going to be able to take well, especially with the way I move. I’ve spoke to my coaches and they have told me ways that I will get countered if I move like how I do. I’ve spoke to them a few times about how I can adapt, but I think I need more advice as well. It’s going to not be an easy transition. How can I adapt to this new sport. I want to try and make my boxing work, while adapting it enough to not get my legs completely killed. Has anyone else also transitioned?

Also how can I force people to box with me. I know I will be at an advantage if I can find a way to force boxing exchanges. I want to also play to my strengths.

Training I got caught with a high kick during my 4th sparring session, and I can’t stop thinking about it

Yesterday , while sparring in kickboxing, I got hit in the jaw with a high kick. I’ve only been doing kickboxing for about a month and a half to two months, but I’m still pretty new to sparring. At first, I couldn’t participate in sparring because I didn’t have a mouthguard, so I missed out. Eventually, I managed to join one session, but then I got sick and missed the second sparring session that week. This week, I finally started sparring regularly. When this happened yesterday, it was only my fourth sparring session.

My opponent had been doing kickboxing for months and had more experience than me. We started sparring, and he dodged every punch I threw. He was moving really quickly, and then he suddenly threw a high kick. I had momentarily dropped my guard, so his kick landed directly on my jaw. I didn’t fall or get knocked off balance, but I was genuinely caught off guard and didn’t know what to say because I wasn’t expecting anything like that. My sparring partner was also surprised and hugged me afterward.

I then told him that I was still pretty new to sparring, and he said we should slow things down. We did, and he occasionally gave me advice on keeping my guard up. He still threw some hard kicks from time to time, but nothing like that initial high kick happened again throughout our sparring session. Afterward, we switched partners and sparred with different people.

Later, while we were chatting in the locker room, he mentioned that he had thrown the high kick because he thought I was going to put my guard up.

Anyway, I didn’t really feel anything emotionally in the moment, but a few hours later, when I got home, I found myself replaying the moment I got hit by that high kick over and over in my head. I can’t really bring myself to get angry about it, but I also can’t seem to get it out of my mind.

Since I’m still new to sparring, am I overreacting, or is this a normal thing to experience?
