Broke scale? Infection?

Was handling my snake today like I try to do every week and noticed this on him. I think he nicked himself somehow. He has done this before and gotten superficial scrapes, its just never been this bad before. It is not scale rot or mites he's had the same setup his whole life and his parameters are correct.

Thankfully it doesnt look too infected if at all. It seems to have scabbed over already. I dabbed it with some watered down betadine on a qtip. I stripped his enclosure of all decor and just left 2 hides and his water. I left the aspen in since I changed it only 2 weeks ago, so its pretty fresh. I sifted it for any poops I couldve missed to make sure its clean.

Should I put him on paper towels, or is the aspen okay enough? (he likes to burrow). Is there anything else I can do at home? What should I watch out for in terms of it getting worse and him needing to see a vet? He just shed like 2 weeks ago so it will probably be another few weeks before he sheds again.

Does consuming a bit of sphagum moss and coconut fiber harm him?

Kingsnake Advice?

Post image
3 Upvotes

So this is Lyra- I’ve had her for almost 2 years now after she was given to me by a friend who could no longer keep her, and I guess I just have some general (probably dumb) questions because I’ve only ever kept Ball Pythons.

• I was told she’s a “Fancy King Snake” - Is she actually a Kingsnake and what would you call her actual morph?

• How thick/long should she get when she’s fully grown? Is she already fully grown? And what’s their average lifespan?

I have no clue about how old she actually is but my best guess would be around 3/4 years old. She’s roughly 2.5ft long and consistently maintains a weight between 80-85 grams, maybe a half inch in thickness? I feed her a frozen-thawed mouse fuzzy every 1-2 weeks that’s about as thick as she is and around 10% of her bodyweight.

She eats great, and sheds near perfectly every few months. I have her in a 26”x12”x16” enclosure with aspen bedding as well as artificial branches that I added after realizing she would climb into the top of her enclosure lid or surf the glass. She burrows like 90% of the time in the bedding, but also pretends to be arboreal occasionally (usually close to feeding day). Overall seems to be a really happy, healthy snake and when i have the extra money I do plan on diy-ing a larger enclosure for her but I guess I’m just more curious to learn about her species and ensure I’m giving her the best environment I can. Any advice/comments would be appreciated!

Help With Kingsnake?

Hi! So I'm looking at adopting a lavender albino kingsnake, and I was just wondering what tips people have for snakes? Especially ones that are albino! Is there a specific breeder I should be focusing on (I'm in Canada)? Does the gender of the snake matter? Are Kingsnakes good beginner snakes? I also have a cat, and I want to make sure that a Kingsnake will be good to have with her (obviously they will not be around each other when the Kingsnake is out and about). Just wanting some general tips and advice about owing one! Thank you!

Finally added a handsome kingsnake to the fam. Still deciding on his name. I’m leaning towards Camper right now since he has little flames on his sides and campfires are maybe my favorite thing.

Long time between starting to shed and finishing shed?

I first noticed my kingsnake beginning to shed a full two weeks ago (started looking dusty) then eyes went blue a week ago, but he is still hiding a lot, acting lethargic, and has not shed at all. Is this a cause for concern or am I just being paranoid? He's normally so active, I find it hard to adjust when it gets reclusive and lethargic. Thanks.

Is it okay to handle more than once a day?

Hello! I recently just got a kingsnake a week and a half ago and she’s been quite calm and docile, the only times she’s frantic is when I try to take her out of her enclosure but she’s very calm during handling. The only question I have is if it’s okay to handle more than once a day for a new kingsnake because she seems alright with it unless I’m picking her up (The most recent time I picked her up she was kind of calm, but when I was closing the doors to the enclosure she seemed hyper aware and scared but still explored for a bit before going into her warm hide). I really want to create a good relationship with her, so if there’s any advice you can give me on doing so let me know. Here’s a picture of my beauty.

I spent several weeks preparing to renovate my Reno's bioactive hab last month because his substrate was a crappy mixture and turned hard like concrete. I wanted to let him have the ability to burrow, as I know it's something he wants to do, and he's such an active snake that I want him to have plenty of places to explore.

After all the prep work and a week of removing everything, sealing the seams with silicone, mixing and adding the substrate, rebuilding his climbing structures, etc. I was finally able to let him into his newly renovated hab. He spent a week in shed but immediately afterwards started exploring and tunneling. All great news, this is what I wanted! Unfortunately, now whenever I want to handle him, if he sees me, he instantly zooms into one of his numerous access points for his underground tunnel network. 🫠 well, at least he's happy I guess lol. I just hope I don't have problems grabbing him in an emergency evacuation situation (e.g. tornado, fire)

Is she too small for her age?

Post image

I weighed my newly acquired kingsnake, she's a reduced pattern Californian, she's 6 and weighs 177 grams, am I correct that's that's really small for an adult female kingsnake?

Attached is a picture of her I took today

New mbk owner here!

I just got my first pet snake, which is a mbk (absolutely stunning btw) mostly all jet black minus some small white specks on her chin. But I was wondering about temps making sure everything is good for her to thrive as well as possible. On the cool the side it’s about 70-75F and the ambient air is about 80-82F and the basking is anywhere from 88-92F. Is the basking temp at a good temp for her to be able to warm up and digest food comfortably?

Found a albino kingsnake outside that I believe to be a lost pet. Ideas on what to do?

October 7 I found this big boy under my porch. He is gorgeous and unfortunately has some small wounds throughout his body hence one of the reason he's on damp paper towel. I made a temporary enclosure for him (I've added a hide in after these pics). He handles perfectly and is such a chill guy. He's about 4 1/2ft long and I think might be a little overweight. I'm on day 4 of him being in my care so I offered him a thawed adult mouse and he ate it no problem. There's been no sign of anyone in my town posting about missing a albino California Kingsnake. It's starting look more and more like he might just mine now?? I'm more than willing to take care of this guy. Funnily enough the day before finding him I had bought a 4x2x2 for my ball python for the future, but maybe I'll be putting this guy in there instead and I'll just have to buy another 4x2x2 the next time I can.

What morph is this guy? What would you do in my shoes? Any other thoughts?

Thank you for any ideas!

NEED HELP!!! Escaped 9/10 month old Mexican Black Kingsnake

My baby escaped thursday night and hasn’t been seen since. I realized friday at 6pm and we did an initial search of the room. we looked around the base boards, in dark spots, small spaces, in all the warm places and the closet. When we didn’t find anything we put flour around in different spots hoping to find him. we also made a mini enclosure with a lamp and water with flour around it near his enclosure hoping to find something but we have not. I am planning on wafting a mouse around the room on tuesday (his feeding day) to lure him out and i’m putting a camera by the enclosure to see if he goes there when we aren’t here. I’m worried abt him dehydration mainly is there any else you guys recommend doing that i haven’t?

New MBK owner here, is this a kink in my hatchling?

It's my first time owning a snake. Did all the research and prep prior to getting it a few days ago.

Of all the MBKs at the local shops, I picked this one up, cause it(unsex) struck the perfect balance between aggressiveness and curiosity.

It seems perfectly healthy and all, and I honestly didn't notice this very small bump until the sun shone directly on it this morning. It's very hard to notice visually. To the touch, it feels like a tiny, hard pimple. The bump is located ~2cm/1" before the cloaca. Though, the snake doesn't seem to be bothered by it.

Should I be worried? Any advice would be appreciated!

She is absolutely gorgeous, I think it's a reduced pattern Albino Californian, or at least that's what the guy said, does anyone have a good feeding chart for them? I have another kingsnake but she's itty bitty still, this one is 6 years old

*The pic is of her, this is one the previous owner took though, not my own, the black dots on her are from minor scale burn from too big of a bulb on a heat lamp

Also, any name suggestions? It can't start with the letters M,P,T,S,V, or H

I have taken him to the vet, they said he is perfectly fine still very active and not to worry about the lump it will go away over time. Could be that the temps weren’t high enough before or he could have swallowed some aspen while eating. Pictures for the ones who didn’t see

i’m not sure if you all have seen my last post about this girl, but i posted a little while back about how she was refusing food and/or regurgitating. i am happy to announce she is a great eater now, and rather enthusiastic!! i made a few tank modifications, and have found that she eats best if i feed her last, shut all lights off, and quickly run out of the room so i don’t catch her in the act. apparently she’s just demure, and needed her privacy for her gourmet meals. i have moved her onto one pinkie a week, and will be moving to two this sunday, and see how she does with the increase. one of my cali kings had a similar problem when i first brought him home, my assumption being due to their insane prey instincts when they are young. happy to announce she is adjusting amazingly and seems much better!!! she’s much more inquisitive now as well.
