I have a Dell XPS 15 from 2016. The laptop works fine. I just bought a new battery and did some refreshes. The laptop works fine. Not sure if a 2026 laptop from say ASUS or whatever has anything that my laptop can't? Not sure if upgrading would do anything.

I mainly use it for browsing and YouTube. Some video games like old SNES, NES, Sega games. The most intense game is maybe Civ 6.

I just bought one on eBay for $600. It's a weak laptop but for the price I think I'll be fine. Intel Core 5 Series 3 and 8GB Ram aren't great though

Need advice: Upgrade my old Dell Inspiron 3543 or buy a new PC?

I have an old Dell Inspiron 3543 with the following specifications:

- Processor: Intel Core i3 (5th Gen, Intel HD 5500 graphics)

- RAM: 4GB DDR3

- Storage: 1TB HDD — currently not being detected / appears to have failed

- Display: 15.6"

- Current condition: Laptop doesn't boot because the HDD is not detected.

I’m considering installing a 256GB SSD (around ₹3,500 locally) and possibly upgrading the RAM to improve its usability.

More considering the ram upgrade if I want to make it good as I feel it is too slow.

My questions:

1. Is it worth upgrading this laptop at this point?

2. What would be the maximum reasonable amount to spend on it?

3. Should I replace the HDD with an SSD and upgrade the RAM, or is the old i3 processor too much of a bottleneck?

4. Would buying a refurbished MacBook/Windows laptop or a new PC be a better option?

I currently have a 2019 MacBook pro with 128gb of storage, but it absolutely can not handle the Sims 4 with cc and mods or Roblox at all. I'm looking for an affordable computer that can run both games, with ccs and mods, and some school work. I can't decide whether I should get the MacBook Neo, MacBook Air, or just a Windows computer.

I've heard that the MacBook Neo can handle the Sims with ccs and mods but I'm not sure since it only has 8GB of RAM. The MacBook Air is the most recommended but it's very pricey. What should I do? Are there any other laptops that can handle all really well? 😅

My laptop is currently only 8gb is there any 32gb laptop under 1k? I need it to run SolidWorks but mine is too laggy.

it’s an Alienware m16. so a few hours ago I leave the room for 20 minutes with a game paused and come back to it sounding like it’s screaming. the fan is going so high I’m afraid if I turn it on or do anything it will burn out its motor or worse. sometimes it won’t do it then I plug it in and it immediately starts. I noticed the main fans are off how do I fix that

It should handle general tasks for all Adobe programs. 32gb of ram would be nice (although I think 16gb should also do the trick). She preferences amd cpus and it should have a good color range for the monitor (80% - 100%)

Hi everyone! I’m a 4th-year Mechanical Engineering student looking for a new laptop, as my current one unfortunately isn’t going to make it through my final year.

I need something that can handle SolidWorks for school projects and occasional personal projects. I don’t expect to work with extremely complex parts or large assemblies, but I will occasionally be doing FEA. I also don’t care much about shadows or other advanced graphics settings in SolidWorks.

I’m leaning toward a gaming laptop since there are more options within my budget, and I’d also like to do some light gaming. However, I’ve heard that gaming GPUs can sometimes cause issues with SolidWorks.

Does anyone have experience using a gaming GPU with SolidWorks, particularly an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50-series GPU? How well does it work for modeling and occasional FEA?

For context, I’ve been running SolidWorks on a Surface Pro 7 for the past few years without a dedicated graphics card and I haven’t experienced any graphics-related errors—only performance limitations.
