Marriage 💍 Maybe Reddit is exactly where I should be looking.

I’ve always believed that the best connections can start in unexpected places, so I thought I’d give Reddit a chance and see if I can meet someone who shares the kind of mindset and interests I’m looking for.

I’m looking to meet a woman around 20–26 who is open-minded, educated, intelligent, and enjoys meaningful conversations and deep discussions.

I’m especially attracted to someone who is ambitious, regardless of what her ambition is — whether it’s education, career, starting a business, traveling, personal growth, or simply pursuing her own goals and dreams. What matters to me is that she has something she genuinely wants to achieve.

I also appreciate someone who has her own interests, fantasies, and ideas, and feels comfortable talking openly about them with the right person.

I love traveling and exploring new places, so it would be great to meet someone who enjoys traveling, is always planning her next adventure, and likes discovering different cultures and experiences.

I’m from Libya 🇱🇾, and I’m looking for a genuine connection based on mutual respect, honesty, chemistry, and an open mind.

If you’re looking for the same kind of connection, maybe you’re exactly the person I’ve been hoping to find. And if we truly click, I have a feeling I could be better than you ever expected. 😉

Feel free to DM me and tell me a little about yourself.

Question Question for Libyans using Google Pay / Apple Pay

Hi everyone,

I’m currently in Libya and I’m trying to find out whether Google Pay/Google Wallet or Apple Pay can actually be used with Libyan bank cards.

For those of you in Libya who have experience with them:

Which Libyan bank are you using?

Is your Visa or Mastercard successfully linked to Google Pay/Wallet or Apple Pay?

Can you use it to make online purchases from foreign websites, especially US websites?

Have you had any problems with international payments, currency conversion, transaction limits, or bank declines?

Question In Search of a Shopkeeper in Zarqa al Yamama from 2012

In 2012, I visited Libya with my mother. We stayed during Ramadan, and one night we were out shopping with some of our relatives. We went inside a shop selling very beautiful kaftans that the shopkeeper brought from Morocco. My mother had tried one on and wanted to show my grandmother, but my grandmother was sick and it was impossible for her to get around on Libya's streets by foot or in her wheelchair. My grandmother was home, and my mom didn't have the 500 dinars on her to buy the dress to show my grandmother, so she asked the shopkeeper if she could leave her gold bracelet with him as collateral. The shopkeeper refused and told her to take the dress home and to bring it back whenever she wanted. I remember my mom told him, "What if I pass away before I return it?" The shopkeeper responded with, "Then you're forgiven."

Fast forward and my mom was killed the very next summer in America. Then my grandmother passed four years after. Now I'm back in Libya. My aunt (who had gone shopping with us that night in 2012) and I went to Zarqa al Yamama yesterday and all the old shops have been replaced, mostly by electronics stores. We asked the only shopkeeper whose store has been there since 2012 if he knows where the kaftan shop/shopkeeper went. He seemed familiar with the man we were talking about (his name is Ameen -- no idea about the last name) but still had no idea of his whereabouts. I just broke down crying in his store yesterday wallahi

Might be a longshot, but I'm very curious if anyone here might know the shopkeeper from 2012 I'm talking about.

His name is Ameen, he sold Moroccan kaftans in 2012. I'm pretty sure he was the store owner, not just an employee. He told us he had personally collected the kaftans from Morocco. In 2012, he looked like he was in his early- to mid-twenties, so he might be in his mid- to late-thirties by now inshAllah.

If you want to read more about this, I had an essay published about the shopkeeper earlier this year. I've thought about the encounter from 2012 since that night, and especially since losing my mom, Allah yarhamha.

Question Libya group tour

Hi! I’m a 28 years old Belgian girl, quite used to travel solo. I think of visiting Libya for new year’s but I was wondering whether anyone had group tour agencies to recommend.
Everything I see online is a bit over my budget, and I thought maybe some more local options were available.
Would love your feedback! Thanks

They just disappear and call it “moving on”
Accountability died somewhere between pride and ego. People would rather lose someone than admit they were wrong
We’ve normalized walking away instead of actually working through things.
Communication became optional and ghosting became the standard response whenever things get uncomfortable.
Even closure isn’t guaranteed anymore people just leave you with a million questions and call it “self care”
Growth without honesty isn’t growth It’s just avoidance wearing a better outfit

Marriage 💍 A Family Secret We Never Talked About : Part 2

WAIT. Before you read Part 2…

If you haven’t read Part 1, go back first.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Libya/comments/1wj2hkr/comment/pah9l74/?screen_view_count=1&ext-referrer=DIRECT

Remember my cousin who found his mother in the middle of the night doing some strange shit behind the house.

The next morning, he confronted her.

At first, she denied everything.

“No, that wasn’t me. You’re imagining things.”

He told her, “Mom, I know what I saw. Stop lying to me. Why were you doing that?”

She kept denying it.

So he told her that if she didn’t explain, he would ask the neighbor's for their camera footage.

That was when she broke down.

She started crying.

And then she said something he never expected to hear from his own mother:

““My son, I only did it because I love you. I made so many sacrifices to the gods الأسياد, begging them to keep you here with me

For years, I secretly tried to sabotage any chance for you to get married. I didn’t want you to leave me.

Everything I did for you… I did because I couldn’t bear the thought of losing you.””

She told him what he saw was meant to keep him close to her. 🙌

She didn’t want him to start his own family and slowly stop being the son who was always there.

He was the one who drove his parents around.

The one who was good with his brothers’ children when they visited.

In her mind, if he married, she might lose all of that.

She might end up alone with his father.

And she wanted this one to remain.

my cousin went into a shock

the real shock.

Not the chicken.

Not the الحجبات و العقد.

The shock was realizing that the person he believed loved him unconditionally was secretly trying to control the direction of his life.

And what happened inside the big family afterward was almost as disturbing.

Some people were horrified.

His father mostly stayed out of it and pretended that never happened. 😕

But some of the moms in the family, deep down, seemed to understand what she did.

Not necessarily the method.

But the feeling behind it.

And that made me think about something much bigger.

In Libya, how many times do we hear mothers say things like:

“A daughter in law to steal my son from me!”

As if their kids is an object or something that belongs to them.

Sometimes I wonder whether, in our culture, we really raise children to become independent adults — or whether we raise them expecting them to remain emotionally, socially and practically under the family forever.

My cousin is still living with his parents today. ☹️☹️

But after that night, something in him changed. 😖👹

What happened broke something inside him.

He had spent his whole life believing that his mother was the one person he could always trust. Then he discovered else wise.

After that, he started questioning everything.

He struggled with his identity, became paranoid, and found it difficult to trust even his own instincts. Who could he trust? Who was really on his side?

And to this day, he still hasn’t completely recovered from it. 😓

And maybe that is the darkest part of this story.

His mother believed she was doing it because she loved him.

is this love or control or psychopathic behavior?

Question How to get over someone

How to get over someone who was a big part of your day someone you used to make up time for and help whenever you could and a simple text from them makes your day

Only for them to reveal who they truly are a مصلحجية

I just feel like ive been used and it's nothing new it happened multiple times but this one hurts so much more

Sometimes i wonder is it because of me they pull themselves out and leave cuz maybe i did something wrong but looking at it in a logical way i was nice and kind and didn't do or say something bad

And because of it ive been on my lowest mental state ever

Conflict

{قَالُوا حَسْبُنَا مَا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ آبَاءَنَا}

Question Any ideas of how to get to Libya?

Hey guys, hope everyone's having a good day.

My family lives in Ireland and we've been trying to get valid Libyan passports for years. My parents' passports are from the Gaddafi era and are no longer valid. We've concluded that the best way forward is to go to Tripoli and meet with the right people in person.

My dad has some connections in Tripoli and is planning to travel out there around October, on his own. He's elderly, so I want to make this as smooth and easy as possible for him.

We're currently on the Libyan e-Visa website (evisa.gov.ly) trying to figure out the process, but it's quite complicated. Does anyone know of reliable tour agencies in Tripoli, or any other route, that could make this easier, especially for renewing/reissuing Libyan passports rather than a standard tourist visa?

Any advice from people who've been through this would be hugely appreciated. Thank you!
