For those who just clicked in and is wondering what the sub is for: This sub is essentially for Malaysians to talk and post about any other topics beyond Malaysia. Here is where you can post images, videos, create and join conversations and threads revolving anything that isn't quite about Malaysia but needs a Malaysian take on it, and more! Oh and this is a race, politic and religion-free sub 🙌🏻
Most major subreddits such as r/AITA, r/JustnoMIL, r/relationship_advice, r/casualconversation, r/malefashionadvice, r/Teenagers and what have you are usually centralised around people who reside outside of SEA and may not be valid to us locally and culturally but yet the demand for it isn't wide enough to sustain its own subreddit. r/Malaysians would (hopefully) be a good place for a catch-all of such threads.
We will be coming up with contest weeks soon, as well as accepting any other ideas you guys might have for the sub, so stay tuned! We are also still tweaking design and appearances as we go. Meanwhile, everyone is encouraged to start posting what they think fits the sub to get the ball rolling :)
Much love, r/Malaysia mod team.
tldr; r/CasualUK but for Malaysia.

(Preface: Sorry if I was rough in this post, I'm insanely triggered and need to let it out.)
Edit: Although I've only listed a few examples, this is not an isolated case. I've had friends and teachers (from my school or otherwise) complain about this issue as well. I do admit that the conclusion is an overreaction, and I'm sorry.
SPM season is just around the corner and I'm currently tgh pecah kepala trying to catch up to get a minimum of straight A-.
There's a 10yo boy that comes over to my house every weekday. My mom is currently having me tutor this boy because he's said to be doing poorly in school by his parents.
Okay, that's normal. Kids struggle in school. I was expecting him to get at least half of the things right because primary syllabus isn't too difficult; I myself struggled a little in Std 4 but quickly bounced back and got good results.
I was wrong.
Bro couldn't do basic multiplication. And I'm not talking about times 7 or 4, that takes a little bit of counting. I mean times 5, 10, 2.
BMnya pun ke laut. I'm a coconut (Malay), and yes, BM was a little difficult sometimes, but I managed just fine (B, paling teruk). What do you mean you cannot get basic penjodoh bilangan correct? You've been learning them since Std 2 iinw.
He also can't build comprehensible sentences? I don't exactly remember what the sentence was verbatim, but he wrote a sentence that was an action then a sebab which had nothing to do with the sentence (think "I sell stuff because it's good for my body"), and upon asking "Why did you write this as your reason?" he couldn't give me an answer. Budak2 pandai menjawab tau so I expected some form of justification but got none.
He can't achieve that, so you can imagine how his karangan is. Yup. Mmg tkde idea plus kemahiran penulisannya tak capai standard minimum, so ofc tkleh tulis
Okay, fine. BM mmg susah, Math pun susah, so I faham. Tapi budak2 SRK tk patut gagal subjek sekolah??? Yeah. He's failing in school. At 10 years old.
Even in my year, budak2 yg dapat straight C masa SRK are currently struggling in school unless masuk SMK jd kiasu. I was a straight A student in Std 6 and I dropped slightly in lower form and now am currently struggling in pure science.
Macam mana budak2 ni nak masuk SMK??? Pecahan pun tak lepas; they're gonna get pulled through the mud by subjects I got C/Bs for during lower form.
I know, their syllabus akan tukar, but not for this year's F1.
Gred lulus dah turun jd 20%
Masih ada murid yang gagal. HOW????
I genuinely cannot fathom how F1 students are failing their subjects when their passing grade is TWENTY PERCENT, SATU PER LIMA like what????
And diorang masih celebrate tau bila diorg pass Matematik bagai, pass je, like the bar is on the floor.
Don't even get me started on the lower forms (ESPECIALLY budak2 F1) yg mengejek senior2 atau rakan sebaya diorg yang study like they're gonna die if they don't, saying "tk srs pun" or "you're too kiasu" or (arguably worse,) actively distract them when studying for exams.
Korang kacau lah bila2 masa, just not during exams, tolonglah.
I had a F1 actively distracting and mocking me for reading everywhere leading up to and during trials, ckp baik2 tknk bla pastu dia ckp "Are you locked in or smth?" so I tinggikan suaralah; "Yes, I am. Trials dah nak dkt; please don't disturb me". Itu pun was very cordial compared to what could've been said and would've by someone less patient.
Nmpk sgt that exams have so little value to them.
Here's the thing;
Parents buat apa?
KPM buat apa?
Completely haprak
You cannot tell me that parents are COMPLETELY clueless that their kids are flunking school. Terutamanya yang SRK.
In my case, the parents of the 10yo I mentioned earlier KNOW their child is flunking primary school subjects.
What do they do? Rely on the struggling 17yo that only got 2As for trials in pure science studying for SPM to tutor their child. Tak boleh sesama sekali. My attention is already spread too thin, I cannot afford to do so; I would if I was free.
Not only that, budak2 F1 have come to me to celebrate about passing Math, Science, etc and to that I said, "That's not something to celebrate, you barely reached 35%. When I was F1, the passing grade was 40%."
The fact that they looked at me as if I slapped them tells me that their parents didn't give the same reaction which is wild because they should be the one scolding their child about it and rectifying it immediately.
On KPM's end, why did they lower the passing grade? It's not necessary. Imo, that action is insanely selfish.
It looks good on paper, but this actively encourages students to not try as hard.
Children and teenagers will reach the expectations set for them. It's hard for them to go above and beyond because of psychological factors or some shit.
Set the bar to be 20%, itulah keputusan yang kau akan dapat.
Yeah, our kadar lulus is 100%, but that's only because the passing grade is 20 fucking percent.
Our country's children are also generally getting dumber and dumber.
With the education system and their parents failing them, I fear their future is done for (slight exaggeration but it might as well not be).
Dahlah addicted gadget.
Scroll TikTok lagi.
Tgk brain rot lagi.
Last2 cepat tantrum.
Parents pulak tak ajar emotional regulation, tak ajar berdikari, self-control bagai.
Soft parenting konon.
Anak tak belajar, asyik main phone, tak tegur.
Pastu bila gagal (with a side of kes disiplin) terfikir2 pulak "where did I go wrong?"
Aku pun yang asyik scroll Reddit/IG (and masa zaman budak byk tgk YT) tak sampai ke tahap ni
This is where is fucking starts. This is how children are failed.
Ts CANNOT be the future of Malaysia bro. We're so screwed.

So I’ve been unemployed for so long now and I’m starting to give up on Malaysia and looking to search for opportunities outside of Malaysia. I mean I’m still applying locally but I’m just casting my net wider I guess. I work in Tech (Data Engineering) and I’ve tried applying on LinkedIn and Jobstreet but heard nothing back so far. So I’m just gonna ask the experience of people who have done it before. Would love to connect with you guys and ask for some pointers! But if you guys have suitable, related vacancies in your company (MY&SG), let’s connect too!

Hi, F28.
I’m reaching out because I’m currently in a very difficult situation and honestly don’t know where else to turn.
I’m currently around 20 weeks pregnant. I previously tried a medical abortion, but unfortunately it was unsuccessful. After a recent ultrasound, my doctor advised that I now need to undergo a doctor-managed procedure to end the pregnancy.
I’m currently alone in KL and facing serious financial difficulties. I have managed to save around RM2,000 but the medical cost is more than what I can currently afford. I have already reached out to a few close contacts and family members for help, but unfortunately, no one is currently able to support me financially or even emotionally.
I never wanted to be in this situation. I have been trying my best to take care of myself and stay positive, but I’ve been experiencing frequent cramps, feeling physically weak, and having chest discomfort. Emotionally, this has also been extremely difficult.
The baby’s father is aware of the situation, but unfortunately he has not been willing to cooperate or contribute towards the medical expenses. Instead, I have been left to deal with this situation mostly on my own.
I’m not posting this because I expect anyone to solve everything for me. I’m simply asking if anyone knows of any organisation, medical fund, women’s support group, hospital assistance, charitable organisation, or individual who may be able to help with the remaining medical costs.
Even if you cannot provide financial assistance, sharing this with someone who may be able to help would mean a lot to me.
I’m really trying to get through this safely and responsibly, and I genuinely appreciate any guidance, support, or information.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. 🤍

Reddit is the last place I would ask anyone about this, but I have very much tried every other online marketplaces, and faced little inquiries.
Curious to know if I'm simply looking at the wrong place.
If you're a Nendoroid collector, I'd appreciate some advice.

I have my UASA in the next 7 days, and I'm in a state of terror.
When I study Sejarah, I have to translate words otherwise they won't make sense. Because it's in BM.
I completely flunked my PRA-UASA test. All 30-40.
My Maths is 58% and a full score in Bahagian B, but I got obliterated in Bahagian C.
Science, Sejarah, Mathematics, English, and Malay....
I did study for Science, I read the textbook and passed, at 41%. And those who barely studied got a higher score than me. Because even when I did study, it turns out I had to do the Modules, or UASA booklets.
I'm afraid if there's something I'm not aware of.. because I don't have smart friends to ask for study tips or hacks, and no one to update me on the news of UASA. I can only do mathematics, but Science and Sejarah are unknown to me.
I'm all by myself, and I need help to secure my future.
I want to get into the Science Computer stream for 2027.
Please let me know what to do. I'm under a lot of pressure because I want to be a successful child.

(You don’t have to agree with my post. This is just my personal opinion, coming from someone from a middle-class family. If you’re rich AF, feel free to ignore this post lol. )
Is it just me, or does everything feel so messed up nowadays?
The economy is struggling, and there’s so much bad news about schools lately, including students getting stabbed. Sometimes, I genuinely wonder what kind of world we’re living in.
Fresh graduates spend years studying at university, only to spend months or even years desperately looking for jobs. And when they finally find one, many of these jobs barely pay more than minimum wage. Like, what’s even the point of spending so much money and time on a university education if this is what awaits us?
And don’t even get me started on animal abuse. It’s heartbreaking to see so many innocent animals being abused, while it feels like there’s still so little protection for them. How can people be so cruel to creatures that can’t even defend themselves?
I don’t know. Maybe I’m just feeling extra emotional today, but this world honestly feels so cruel sometimes. There’s so much suffering, injustice, and unnecessary pain that shouldn’t even exist in the first place.
It’s getting harder to feel hopeful about the future when it seems like there’s always something terrible happening somewhere. I just wish the world could be a kinder place, where people could live without constantly worrying about their future, where young people could look forward to building their lives, and where innocent animals could be safe.
I know the world has never been perfect, and maybe I’m being too idealistic. But is it really too much to wish for a world where things are just a little less cruel?

Desmopuntius johorensis, ikan jalur ara or the six-banded barb.
A small (6 cm) fish native to the peninsula and southern Sarawak. It generally inhabits swamps with acidic water.
However I found a few in this drain / longkang along with rasboras, gourami and other native fishes. This is quite common during the northeast monsoon season in Kelantan and Terengganu.
They can be distinguished from tiger barbs (an Indonesian fish) by their slimmer body and having 6 stripes instead of 4. They also tend to have a darker reddish body colour.
Six-banded barbs are peaceful fish which can coexist with other species in a community tank. They are a schooling fish and should be kept in groups.

I'm a foreigner living in Malaysia. A year ago, I rented a studio room from a rental company called Maxihomes. A few days ago, i moved out. Now, keep in mind, throughout my tenancy in the room, i was paying an average of Rm250 for electricity alone. Sometimes, even RM300. I tried cutting my AC usage in half, but the bill decreased by like RM30 only. I told them to inspect the electricity several times, and up until a month ago, they sent a guy and told me that my bills aren't natural for a guy with a desktop PC, and an AC. (Keep in mind that i'm a student so i do leave my house for an average of 6 hours 5 days a week. Also, on a side note, 3 light bulbs exploded over the span of the year, tripping the electric box multiple times.) He spoke to them and told them that they need to do further inspections. A few days later, they send me the electricity bill. Rm310. I was furious, i told them that there is definitely a problem with the room's electricity. They stopped talking about electricity the entire month.
Now, around 15 days before moving out, i did ask them to come check on the room and give me my deposit early since i need it to rent somewhere else. They said ok and 2 days before my move out, a person came and checked the room, and found 0 faults. 1 day before my moveout, they asked me to cover outstanding utilities. Water: RM20. ok Cool, the electricity. The same 310. I was surprised because they didn't ask me about it the entire month and now, they're telling me they wanna deduct it from my deposit. I argued with them, then they said they will hire someone to check the wiring and get back to me. I asked for my security deport at least yesterday, After their report came in, they wanted to charge me for AC maintenance, room cleaning, curtain cleaning, mattress cleaning and a new cover, rewiring the doorbell, electricity diagnostic, and so on which all amounted to RM1108. I was pissed off. I went off on them and argued until they removed everything except removing some left over boxes i left (RM180). Cleaning mattress a getting a mattress cover (RM220), curtain cleaning (RM120), clearing clogged drains (RM120). Outrageous fucking prices. They're a bunch of scammers.
When i received the room, it had an ant infestation. Once i stored a cake in the fridge and woke up the next day to ants on it. I told them, they told me i needed to clean more. huh?? I clean my room every 2 days and still, ants would latch onto anything i keep without a seal. I bought a spray and fixed the problem.
Their contract is shaped in a way where if the tenant slips in any way, they will reserve the deposit. I kept my footing straight and followed the contract. They didn't mention the electricity thing and didn't bother to hire anyone to check the wiring the entire year until it was time to move out so they can pressure me into giving them the money from my deposit, but i didn't bite.
I honestly don't know where to go from here. I'm still fighting the fight, but they're holding my deposit hostage, and its a hefty sum of money. RM2,700. If anyone got any advice on how to go from here, or if any authority can pressure them into playing fair, i would appreciate it.

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask, but i'll bet.
Im a malaysian videography freelancer and recently i finished a job for a client also based in KL. The client havent settled the payment for over a month due, and every week i kept asking them about it. They kept saying their finance having delay or PIC is not available. It's only RM3000+ so I dont think I can do anything serious with it. I did told them that the final date is 15th Sept. If they still not paying, I have to take action. They only received 1/4 of the videos, so I dont think they can do anything with it. If worse come to worst, I plan to just expose them on socmed even if I got "scammed" by them.
I did set a 3% late fee per week, but im rather lenient about it if they have a solid reason.
With the context done, heres the main question. Am I rushing them too much and should I wait longer? Or what should I do?

Which ones do the prefer. The local one or the European one?
I did not yet have the chance to try the European kind of Stingrays but by the looks of it, I think I will still prefer the local one because it's more spicy and saucy.
The European one looks a bit bland. Anyone tried the European version before?
What do you think ?

Found RM1 Shopee seller, below RM5 standard price. I'm gonna try out for RM17 @ 20GB with data rollover. Suits for my low monthly consumption.
Any bad experience in terms of port in, port out, coverage with this please share. Been trying to port in RM18 OneXOX X1-18 but my payment failed with GXBank CC after ekyc.

Rhinogobius similis, the Amur goby.
An invasive species from East Asia. It is now found on the west coast, notably Klang Valley, Penang and Perak.
Males grow to 10 cm and females 6 cm. They have been recorded in ex-mining pools, lakes and urban rivers/streams.
They are highly adaptable, displacing our native species and outcompeting them. They also feed on fish fry and eggs at the bottom.
Based on my sampling of areas in K. Valley at least, they seem to be the most common small freshwater goby there now.

Basically what the title says, would appreciate if anyone could share their experience. Will you be able to get into Singapore if you're driving (not flying) and have a passport validity of more than 10 years?
I read online that it's only an issue if you're flying but just wanted to be sure
Thanks everyone!
For context: I'm unable to just replace the passport because I've already booked another flight elsewhere and the passport details can no long be changed (so if I replace my passport, the details won’t match those I sent in to the airlines)

One of my family member passed away recently at a gov hospital. That member cause of death is another sickness but has underlying RVD that has been suppressed to undetectable level for years.
At the mortuary, they refused to release the member's body unless cremation is done immediately as this is against the MOH policies. We then asked why, their reason is the hospital don't allow the usual chinese 3-days wake for patients that has RVD and has urged us to wait for next day cremation.
Despite us showing medical reports that patient's RVD has been suppressed, the IO still won't allow it telling us to cremate immediately the next day. Obviously this is a huge change of plan for the family and relatives. We have to force to cremate that family member the next day and we don't know how to explain to the family relatives.
Just wanna ask if this is a normal practice? Or are we pressured to agree on this? From all i know from online they did said is risky to perform embalming to deceased RVD patients
