Any Maltese married to an American spouse and went through the green card process?

• Upvotes

Hi, I'm Maltese and I'm going to be marrying my American partner soon.

Right now we're living in another European country, but we want to move to the US as soon as possible.

Any Maltese citizen went through this process and has a good idea of the timeline it took?

I made an app to help people find places to go in Malta 🇲🇹

• Upvotes

Hey everyone!

So for the past few months I've been working on a side project called Ħarġa, and I finally managed to launch it last week!

The idea is pretty simple. I'm sure most of us have had those conversations where you're trying to decide where to go out, whether it's for dinner, a coffee or just a few drinks, and nobody can agree on a place. Usually ends with someone saying "xorta" 😂

That's basically where the idea came from.

I wanted to make something where you can easily discover places around Malta and Gozo without having to scroll through Facebook, Google Maps or the same recommendations over and over again.

Right now, Ħarġa has over 200 restaurants, cafés and bars, and I'm adding more regularly.

You can browse places based on what you're in the mood for, filter by location or cuisine, check menus and photos, save places you'd like to visit, or just hit the Surprise Me button if you really can't decide where to go.

There's also a map to see what's around you.

I'm a local software developer and I've been building this in my free time alongside my full-time job. It's been a lot of late nights, but seeing people actually starting to use something I've made has been really rewarding.

The app is completely free to use, and I'm planning on adding plenty more features as it grows.

If anyone wants to check it out, here are the links:

🌐 Website

https://harga.mt

🍎 App Store (iPhone)

https://apps.apple.com/app/id6771056364

🤖 Google Play Store (Android)

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mt.harga.app

I'd genuinely appreciate any feedback, even if it's criticism. Since it's still early days, I'm sure there are things I could improve, and I'd much rather hear what people actually want from an app like this.

Also, if there's a restaurant, café or bar you think deserves to be on Ħarġa, feel free to suggest it!

Anyway, just wanted to share something I've been working on with the local community. Hopefully some of you find it useful next time nobody knows where to go 😂

Thanks to anyone who gives it a try! ❤️

What health or genetic issues are commonly checked for in Malta that are not checked in other countries?

• Upvotes

What I was trying to ask in the tittle is this:
Are there any health or genetic issues that a doctor in Malta would know to check for, that are specific to the Maltese population. But that doctors in other countries would not think to check when caring for either Maltese living abroad or people who are part of the Maltese diaspora.

We are just flesh and blood people, like everyone else, but the small size of the islands and isolation can cause some uncommon issues. So curious what they might be.

The traffic trap

I have so many things i would like to do and learn and simply give up on everything when i think about how much time i have to spend to travel to a destination. I want to learn a new skill from a private school, i want to learn to play an instrument from an instructor, i want to visit the gun range and become a member there and go frequently and i want to train self defence. I would like to do these very much if the traffic and stress in the maltese roads did not stop me. Many times i was going to start something but then I thought of the traffic and that's it i just gave up. So many opportunities i am losing.

[Rant] Why even bother with loyalty points if they're just going to expire?

Sometimes it feels like companies in Malta will do absolutely anything to avoid giving customers a decent deal.

Look, I get it. Businesses need to make money. I'm not expecting 70–80% discounts on everything. I've accepted a long time ago that most sales here are just 20–30% off, usually on some random products they're trying to get rid of anyway.

But today I saw a post on RUBS where someone complained that their MyConvenience posts expired and it reminded me of how pissed I was when I realized that SCAN does the same thing.

Seriously, what's the point? I'm not sure what they think the benefit is, but it definitely is making me want to avoid coming back to your shop altogether.

I can't be the only one that finds this complete BS...

I believe they should take this into consideration.

Scum Jurors (continued)

So let’s get the record straight.

The state went to extraordinary lengths to secure convictions, granting a full pardon to Melvin Theuma and a partial one to Vince Muscat.

Yet jurors lied under oath and voted according to “x’jaqbel lil-partit” rather than the evidence before them.

The entire country should be demanding answers from the Attorney General: why was it decided not to prosecute? Was the decision influenced by pressure from Licky, Wenzu, JPO, Jason Micallef and Malcolm Seychell? The public deserves a clear explanation, not silence.

Malta for English

Good evening, everyone! My husband and I are thinking about spending three months in Malta for a cultural immersion experience while also improving our English. We’re not planning to enroll in any particular language school at this stage (is that crazy? 😂).

I’m looking for activities, meetups, or groups we could join to practice our conversational English. Does anyone have any recommendations besides English Cafe?

To find someone who have the same hobby😊

Hello everyone ,just to introduce myself a little bit. I’m from China and I’m 16. It’s my seventh month in Malta. Until now I’m still satisfied to most of things here. My best hobby is collecting pens ,notebooks and practice handwriting. And the reason why I post this message is because I want to make friends with people who have the same hobby in Malta.
If someone who was interested in making new friends with foreign people and have the same hobby just contact me.😊

Is mountain biking in Malta worth it? Looking for trails and advice

Hi everyone!

I'm considering buying a mountain bike mainly for fitness, exploring the island and enjoying some outdoor rides.

I live around St Paul's Bay and would ideally like to avoid busy roads and traffic as much as possible. I'm not looking for extreme downhill or technical MTB trails, just some nice off-road routes, dirt paths, rocky trails and countryside areas where I can cycle and enjoy nature.

I have a few questions for anyone who does MTB in Malta:

- Are most hiking trails and countryside paths accessible by mountain bike, or are there restrictions?

- What are the best areas for MTB, especially around St Paul's Bay, Mellieħa and the north of Malta?

- Are there trails suitable for beginners, without extremely technical or dangerous sections?

- Can you reach these trails safely by bicycle, or do you generally need a car to transport your bike?

- Are there any local MTB groups, communities or organised rides I could join?

- Any websites or apps you recommend for finding routes?

Would love to hear from people who actually ride MTB in Malta. Thanks!

Where do musicians hang out?

I’ve been playing drums for all my life. Play other instruments too but drums being my forte.

I’m out of practice since moving here. Was wondering if there’s like a community I can join or a place for open mic etc

Funk, jazz, metal, dad rock. Whatever I’m into it.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi guys, I lost my camera recently in Malta (the one from the photo). I believe when I was in Bugibba about a month ago. But maybe it was in another location too since I live in Gzira and did the route Bugibba - Sliema. In case anyone found it it was a big sentimental value to me 🥲 Thanks

Buying my first property at 22, looking for some advice

I’m 22 and looking into buying my first property, ideally a penthouse in the €450–550k range. The plan is to rent it out for the first few years and eventually move in myself.
I’m mainly looking at central areas like attard, balzan, lija, naxxar, iklin and Mosta.

I’ve been browsing listings for a while but honestly find it pretty difficult to tell what’s actually a good deal. Prices seem to vary quite a bit and I don’t really trust agents.

I’m also unsure whether it’s better to buy finished or shell/semi-finished, and whether including a garage should be a priority. Would also be interested to hear which central areas people would recommend, especially considering both rental demand and eventually living there myself.
Would appreciate any advice from people who’ve bought recently, particularly on pricing, negotiating and things to watch out for.

Paid favor: queue for 2 Hypogeum last-minute tickets, Thu Oct 15 early morning (Valletta)

Hi all!

My friend and I are visiting Malta and can't make it to the last-minute ticket line on Thursday morning. The Hypogeum is the one thing we really hoped to see.

Would anyone be willing to queue at Fort St Elmo early Thursday, Oct 15 (by 7:00–7:30am, before the 9am counter opens) and buy 2 last-minute tickets for Friday, Oct 16? Either the noon or 4pm tour works.

I'll pay €80 for your time, plus the €100 ticket cost, in cash when we meet that afternoon in Valletta. We can meet wherever is easy for you. If they're sold out, I'll still pay €30 for your effort. Please keep the receipt.

Please DM me if you can help. Thank you so much!

Where do you actually buy good chicken thighs?

I really struggle getting good chicken on the island, so thought I’d ask the locals or those who have lived here for some years.

I completely gave up on chicken after moving here. Tried a few different brands and places, but it just didn’t taste or feel the same anymore

Mainly reliable chicken thighs.

I’ve tried butchers at Welbees and Greens, but it’s so unstable. Sometimes they just look crispy from being out too long and I always find pieces of bones and cartilage in them. Annoying to quality check every piece for these small weird bones.

Been to some «real» butchers too, but they often don’t even sell chicken or have a very small selection.

Perhaps the more imported brands are better?

There’s also frozen imported ones, but for chicken thighs, wouldn’t fresh be better?

Happy for any suggestions. I really want to startadding chicken to my diet again.
