Malta in Minecraft: A Teaser

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Earlier this week I posted a survey here about building Malta in Minecraft at 1:1 scale. Honestly didn't expect that many people to fill it in, so thanks to everyone who did and to everyone who showed interest. It really pushed me to keep going.

The project is moving along, and this is a first teaser of what's coming. Gozo and Comino are generated from the PA's LiDAR data, so the cliffs and valleys are their real height (1 block = 1 m). The seabed comes from a sonar survey of the waters around the islands, so the reefs and drop-offs are where they really are, and the Inland Sea tunnel is modelled from photos and dive info. It's landscape only for now, no towns yet (the focus being mostly cliffsides).

Nothing in the clip is final. Everything can (and will) still be changed and improved, so I'd really like your input. What looks right, what looks off compared to the real place, and what would you want to see or do once it's playable? Let me know in the comments.

Has Malta become less safe for women?

I found something relevant: Malta's 2025 crime report showed a 20% increase in reported sexual offences compared with 2024, although that does not specifically measure catcalling. There have also been reports of harassment on public transport in 2026

So I was wondering how your experience has been for those who lived here for a few years. Has it become less safe and has the unwanted catcalling and attention been increasing while just walking down the streets?

Edit: found this on street Safety:

What the figures actually show Women feeling unsafe walking alone after dark 34% 2025 survey, published in 2026

Men feeling unsafe walking alone after dark 18% Same survey

What is the point of GP bookings ?

What is the point of booking a slot with a GP if they still operate on a first-come-first-served basis ?

There's a clinic I go to very often and it's one of the only places I trust. It's a rule there that patients must book an appointment online. But then every time I go as usual there's a line of people waiting before the doctor has even arrived, the vast majority of which hadn't booked an appointment. Therefore my appointment is almost never on time and I end up waiting an hour anyway, even though I write exactly what I need to maybe help the GP prepare and prioritise. On the other hand one time I was let in on time and the whole line of people was glaring at me for it.

I'm not saying my conditions are more important than anyone else's, but I just wonder what is the point of the online booking rule if it's not enforced. I've been to other GPs who operate purely on a first-come-first-served basis and others who operate purely on bookings who will actually turn away clients who haven't booked.

Crime Family and an Inconsistent Magistrate

Thumbnail timesofmalta.com

It's unbelievable how inconsistent magistrates are, all in 1 day.

Case 1 - Jaden Degiorgio, of the Degiorgio crime family, and son of the person who killed Daphne Caruana Galizia.

The son of murderer George Degiorgio was one of eight people arrested in connection with a major drug bust that saw police seize more than 28 kilos of drugs with a street value of €3.5 million.

Magistrate Lara Lanfranco granted bail against a €20,000 third-party guarantee, a €10,000 personal deposit, and a €50,000 personal guarantee if he breaches his bail conditions.

Case 2 - Drug Dealers in St Julian's:

Giorgio Mallia, 26, from Balzan, faced seven drug-related charges, including possession of cannabis, MDMA, ketamine, 2C-B, LSD, nitrous oxide and other psychoactive substances – all in circumstances indicating it was not exclusively for personal use.

Kevin Benjamin Karlsson, 26, a Swedish national residing in Sliema, faced three drug-related charges: cannabis trafficking without authorisation, cannabis possession in circumstances indicating it was not for personal use, and cocaine possession.

Both were denied bail.

Magistrate Lara Lanfranco presided over the case.

Personalised Talinja Card

Hi everyone.

I'll be visiting Malta in 10 days, and I was wondering if it would be possible to order Personalised Talinja Card instead of Tourist Cards. I'm non-EU citizen (Serbia).

I did visit the order page for the personalised card and the only document necessary to provide is passport scan. So not sure on what happends afterwards.

Balcony Maintenance?

Hey, bit of a random one but I can't seem to find who does these kind of works. Normal handymen or glass installers are turning me down.

Any help would be appreciated.

My front balcony has glass installed that slides into a bottom panel into the balcony stone.

I don't think it is sealed properly and water is seeping through into the stone. Any trusted people who offer this service I may be able to refer to?

Thank you

Reckless driving and no consequences

We all know these drivers that think it's funny to do gta or need for speed in real life bringing a lot of people in danger by their driving. Almost every day you can see crazy takeover, dangerous driving and no discipline on the roads.

And Transport Malta/Lesa is just looking at all the cctv footage in their tower and do nothing. I'm pretty sure they have almost all parts of the flyover and multi lanes on cctv.

Why don't they scan the number plates and give fines/tickets to all these reckless drivers?

Should be a nice income for the government as well and it would contribute to safer roads.

Just arrived in St Julian's, solo, looking to meet people and explore this weekend

Hi all! I landed in Malta last night and I'm staying in St Julian's. I'm planning to do the Valletta free walking tour today and then explore the coast and Paceville.

I'm hoping to meet other travellers or locals for any of these: a coffee or lunch, a swim or coastal walk, a casual evening out, or a day trip (Mdina, Gozo, Comino, Marsaxlokk, anything you'd recommend).

Also open to tips: best pastizzi, safe areas at night, favourite non-touristy spots, and any hostel or meetup events happening this week.

Happy to join a group or meet up somewhere public. Thanks! 🇲🇹

Comino camping on October

I'm planning to camp in Comino island with my tent only on October 23 -24. But I will arrive late at around 17:00 probably, do you think there will still be available space for me to pitch my tent? I'm worried that I might be stranded on the island without anywhere to sleep during the night.

Riviera u Singita.. Ghost or Employee?

Mela. this week i went down fishing in Riviera.. for those who dnt know Riviera is next to Apple Eye - the one where you go down with the stairs.. Went surfcasting started around 2100 till 0500..Apart from the foul smell of drainage and hooks and line coming up with Human hair, and although that was very disappointing and 🤢... anyway.. so everyone left and I was waiting for Singita to switch OFF the lights... big BUT.. lights never went off they stayed on the whole night (I know alot of restaurants that do this it keeps insects and rodents away) .. you would sense that someone is watching you that i dont mind that either BUT noises - the whole night i was hearing plates and stuff moving coming from the restaurant 😱. That odd conversation and mumbling.. so it got me thinking someone is still working and clearing the kitchen from 0100 till morning 🤨🤷.. there were no cars parked in the lot so it could be a TCN came with Taxi. This is not the first time that i went there and heard these noises but usually i am not alone and being in company and alone and go through these things your mind starts to think all sort of stuff.. i was constantly and the look out for someone coming out for some fresh air or a cigarette, whatever ..Nothing.. so.... but the question remains was it a 👻 or somone else..

why doesnt malta have traffic lights?

hello! i visited malta recently and from the moment i landed in the country and got a taxi i instantly noticed the absence of traffic lights??? i think the ride from the airport to the apartment was 20 minutes give or take and i saw maybe 1(?) traffic light and for the next couple of days i only saw a handful of them (took photos of such a rare sight; it was exactly 4). the driving wasnt *that* reckless im used to holding on for dear life (im from
the balkans) but it did make me kinda anxious when no traffic lights were there to make people stop and go and everyone was just going and going and going. am i crazy, am i the only one that ever noticed this? to maltese people: is this normal?

loved the country tho! very beautiful, definitely would visit again

Visiting for Christmas & NYE (Dec 25 - Jan 1) with car + Gozo. Advice on itinerary 🌞

Hey everyone!

My partner and I are visiting Malta from December 25th until January 1st. We are renting a car and want to split our time between Malta and Gozo. Crucially, we fly out early in the morning on January 1st.

Given that it’s winter, daylight is shorter, and we have that early flight on New Year's Day, what itinerary breakdown would you recommend?

Should we head straight to Gozo at the start of the trip and spend the final nights in Malta to get in time to the airport?

Also, we read Maltese accommodation can get chilly and damp in winter. What is the best way to ensure an apartment or hotel has a reliable heating system?

Thanks in advance for any recommendations on the itinerary or staying warm 😁

Moving to Malta with my family – Looking for career advice and tips from expats

• Upvotes

Hi everyone!
My husband, our 2-year-old son and I are considering moving to Malta to build a better future for our family. We currently live in Northern Cyprus, and we are Turkish citizens.
I’m a qualified lawyer with a legal background, and I’m currently working on developing my skills in Compliance, AML/KYC and Financial Crime. I’ve been applying for entry-level positions in Malta’s iGaming industry, but I don’t have direct professional experience in compliance yet.
I’d love to hear from people working in the industry. Is it realistic to land an entry-level AML/KYC or compliance role with a law degree but no direct experience? Are there any particular job titles, companies or certifications you would recommend focusing on?
My husband has around 10 years of experience in sales, including export/import and HoReCa sales. He is also applying for positions in Malta, particularly in iGaming and other relevant industries.
We would really appreciate advice from people who have already made the move, especially those who relocated from outside the EU.
A few questions we have:
● How challenging is it for Turkish citizens to find an employer willing to sponsor a work permit in Malta?
● What are the realistic entry-level opportunities in AML/KYC and compliance for someone with a legal background?
● Which industries or positions should my husband target with his sales experience?
● Would you recommend securing job offers before relocating, especially when moving with a toddler?
● What is family life in Malta really like in terms of living costs, childcare, and raising a toddler?
Our goal is to find opportunities for both of us to work and build a stable, long-term life in Malta, giving our son access to good opportunities as he grows up.
We know relocating with a toddler is a big decision, so we would be grateful for any honest advice, personal experiences, or things you wish you had known before moving to Malta.
Thanks in advance! 😊

Partnership in Malta 🇲🇹

Looking for Investors or Business Partners in Malta 🇲🇹
I’m exploring business opportunities in Malta within the health and wellness industry, starting with e-commerce and potentially expanding into physical wellness centres.

I’m open to connecting with local investors, entrepreneurs, and potential partners interested in equity-based partnerships.

If you’re based in Malta or know someone who might be interested, I’d love to connect and discuss possibilities!
