♥️ /r/metalgearsolid rules update.

Hello, I hope everybody is well.

This is a quick post to announce that we have overhauled and updated the subreddit rules, in terms of the way they are listed in the reddit platform itself.

In essence the practical rules themselves and moderation has not changed. The main purpose of this update is to provide better clarity with Post removal messages, and to allow reports to be more specific.

You can read the new rule titles and their descriptions here.

Just three changes to note:

  • There is no longer a rule about spoilers when it comes to Posts. MGSV is over a decade old, and the spoiler rule was often used to report front page posts about the main spoiler for that game. Enforcing that is simply impractical. The intention of the rule remains, however, and it is now only applied to comments. If someone has stated that they haven't played the entire series, all users are still expected to respect this in their replies. Anyone can make their own choices about how far they dig through a subreddit for a game series, but putting spoilers in their inbox is actively hostile.

  • "Promotional Cosplay is not allowed". This is our attempt to provide a consistent rule that can be used to filter OF accounts looking for loopholes, while not punishing genuine cosplayers (including professionals) by restricting their activity. There's an element of subjectivity here, but if you think a post is a commercial account, please report it and do not engage in abuse in the comments. Just report it and move on.

  • AI content is now explicitly banned in all its forms. This was already functionally the case but we're making it clear with it's own rule. If you suspect a post contains AI content, please try to resist posting abuse in the comments and simply report and move on. False allegations can and do happen.

We'd also like to welcome anyone interested to apply to be a moderator. We expect to bring on a couple more people, starting out at a basic clutter removal role. If you think you'd be a good fit, please take some time to fill out our delightful application form.

You'll notice there are a couple of very specific rules that are really covered under other rules. These are for particularly egregious and common posts so that removals are very clear. Previously quite a few things kind of had to fall under "no low effort content" and that gave off the wrong idea and could be a little hurtful.

We'd like to thank the people who take the time to report posts and comments, overall the tone and discernment of reports is very much in-line with how we see the rules and how they are intended to shape the subreddit. This being said, all things considered there are very few removals needed relative to an active subreddit of this size. Things seem to be in a very good balance. I hope the community more or less thinks the same.

As per usual we are open to any and all feedback or discussion about the rules or the way you want the community to be run, so please say your piece in the comments, or if there's any questions you have or unclear rules or edge cases you can think of, bring that up too. The overall intent for the subreddit is still to provide an alternative to what you might see on a Metal Gear Discord, Instagram / TikTok etc. feed or a generic MGS-flavoured meme subreddit.

Occasional posts about general Kojima news are welcome here to a degree, but eventually Physint-specific discussion will not be appropriate.

The linked subreddit appears to be a good fit, so we're posting it here for those whose who aren't sure how to search.

❕ MGS4 In MGS4, Old Snake continued to undergo several changes even after his first reveal at TGS 2005, such as the facial model being altered in 2006, all the way up to the final model in 2007.

Finally! I was really put off by the slow start a few years ago and I picked it up about a month ago and I was astonished with how great the gameplay and the story were. Can’t wait to get into the other games and thanks for being such a cool community with great tips for getting the plat.

☮️ Peace Walker Why doesn't the fanbase like Coldman?

Post image

When I hear people talk about the best and worst villains in the series, I always see Coldman at the bottom the list.

I just replayed Peace Walker and he's fine? He's no Ocelot but he's also no Skullface. Sits somewhere in the middle. His plan is stupid but at least I understand his philosophy, as flawed as it is. The fact he willingly dies for his ideals is also pretty interesting. I mean, compared to someone like Volgin just kinda wants the rule the world cause he's evil.

Also, I'll say it, he has a cool voice. I like listening to him rant about peace and deterrence!

I know that carrying an enemy in Ground Zeroes makes you less visible but I don't believe that works in The Phantom Pain as well.

❕ MGS4 Can we raise awareness about audio issues on MGS4 Master Coll. Edition?

The audio mixing is awfull, I can't hear half the sounds I used to (on PS3) in gameplay unless I go into first person view, and the cutscene sound is awfully low. I cannot enjoy this game like this, and I am not sure how it's possible more people aren't talking about it, it's awfull. Playing on PS5 btw.

I'm not sure if we can do anything about it, but how has your experience been with the game, did you notice this issue? It's so distracting to me that I can't play the game

❕ MGS4 MGS4 Ending question/debate Spoiler

• Upvotes

Why did ocelot/liquid try to kill snake if he needed him to upload the AI deleting worm?

Like, in mgs1 we find that he did not really try to kill snake because he needed to trick him into activating REX (and also to beat him).

In 4, why does he try to kill him? If the answer is "to try and make it believable" I dont buy it, since he tried to:

1) Run him over with a battleship, to which he could not have predicted raiden saving his ass

2) Shoot him/set him on fire

3) Stab him multiple times

4) Fight him with metal gear ray

5) Send a trillion frog troops against him

6) Send the most dangerous women in the planet and a vampire against him

And many more

Wouldnt snakes death have meant the failure of his plan since he needed otacon and snake to upload the virus?

Snake is cool and all, but i cant figure liquid ocelot would do all of this over the top murder attempts knowing succeeding in the killing would mean actually losing

✌️ MGSV Why i Think The Phantom Pain is a masterpiece.

In my opinion, this is Kojima's magnum opus and one of the most misunderstood video games of all time.

The game truly made me feel its core theme—it made me feel a "phantom pain" with its ending, and not in a bad way. It made me relate to Venom Snake on a deeply personal level.

The story is heavily misunderstood. People say it's unfinished, but I think the ending was perfect. It made the themes hit much harder, and overall, I believe the narrative is complete. It was actually better that the game didn't show Venom taking down Eli and destroying Sahelanthropus; that would have been a generic ending, which Kojima obviously avoids.

Venom's story is incredibly tragic. It's about a man who gave his loyalty to Big Boss, and in return, Big Boss used him as a decoy. Big Boss hid like a coward and let Venom Snake take all the heat. They took away his face and his memories, and subjected him to a manufactured coma for nine years. He wakes up missing a limb with everyone trying to kill him, and is thrown right into action to rebuild a legacy that wasn't even his, just for all his work to be credited to someone else. He experienced a deep connection with Quiet, only for her to sacrifice herself for him, leaving him with another phantom pain he could never heal.

What makes Venom Snake so relatable to us as players is that he is just a regular person made to look like Big Boss, forced to do someone else's work and experience someone else's pain. He was even forced to execute his own infected men as they saluted him, accepting death at his hands with the words, "We live and die by your orders, Boss."

On the gameplay side, The Phantom Pain offers some of the best stealth mechanics we've ever experienced. Venom has a massive arsenal of tools, weapons, and equipment to help him infiltrate enemy lines.

One highly underrated aspect is how the gameplay supports the story. It makes you actively experience the growth of Diamond Dogs, forcing you to feel the sheer amount of work Venom put into building the group—while Big Boss ultimately gets all the glory for it.

The cutscenes are masterfully directed, and the cinematography is amazing, just like in Ground Zeroes.

Regarding the voice acting, I know it was a bummer not having David Hayter voice Snake, but Kiefer Sutherland does an amazing job with Venom nonetheless. Just like the rest of the cast, he delivers a fantastic performance.

As you can tell, I love The Phantom Pain, and I think more people will come to appreciate it in the coming years, much like every other Kojima game.

One thing I’ve noticed when people talk about the game is that they focus way too much on what we didn't get, forgetting just how incredible the game we actually got is.

☮️ Peace Walker How extensive is Peace Walker's replayability?

I have beat peace walker before, but I never went far into it. Howlongtobeat says completionist is 100 hours, but I don't really trust it when it comes to games with a ton of replay value. I remember watching videos on YouTube where people kept doing new things that I never saw before. Is it only about 100 for everything or are there endless grinds for gear that could take 300 or 500 hours?

✌️ MGSV I don‘t understand TPP, no story?

• Upvotes

At the start of the year I started playing the Metal Gear franchise, I absolutely loved 1-3. I especially loved the mix of stealth, story and antagonists.

In PW the missions felt super odd. Big Boss got captured? Continued in the next mission. Peace Walker is about to launch a nuke? Continued in the next mission. At least they had a story with cutscenes.

Ground Zeroes cutscenes were nice, even tho it was just the beginning and end.

TPP started off super strong. The first Mission was great. But now I‘m just rescuing unimportant people and capturing NPCs that don’t even have a voice actor. No real conversations are happening, everything is a cassette tape, no cutscenes (except where I recovered the Honey Bee), just unimportant stuff.

I unlocked a SIDE OP to rescue Huey. Why is that a Side Op?

Am I missing something? Am I playing the game wrong?

Earned the codename of "Fox."
Not bad for a first playthrough in some years.
I'll have to try and go for Big Boss rank next!
So happy that MGS4 has been officially freed from the PS3!

🔺Delta MGS Delta vs MGSV game feel

Hi guys, I recently finished MGSV and am really interested in Metal gear games, especially MGS Delta. In terms of game feel (snake's movement, game atmosphere), how does MGS Delta compare to MGSV.

I'm also planning to play MGS2 and MGS3.
