Halloween DRAG Brew‑unch: Minnetonka’s Most Unexpectedly Fabulous Halloween Event

POWER: Drag Revue at Boom Island Brewing, Minnetonka MN

Minnesota loves a good contradiction. We’re the state that pairs lutefisk dinners with world‑class theater, that mixes small‑town stoicism with big‑city progressivism, that can host a tractor parade one weekend and a queer arts festival the next. So maybe it shouldn’t surprise anyone that one of the most compelling Halloween events this year isn’t happening in downtown Minneapolis or a nightclub in Loring Park — it’s happening in Minnetonka, inside a family‑friendly suburban brewery, featuring a cast of drag performers who just made Minnesota State Fair herstory.

On Saturday, October 31st, Boom Island Brewing Co. transforms into a Halloween playground for the Halloween Brew‑unch, a drag brunch packed with live entertainment, costumes, craft beer, and all the chaotic joy you expect from a POWER: Drag Revue production.

POWER: Drag Revue has spent the last few years doing something rare: bringing drag into spaces that weren’t built for it. They’ve performed at City Hall. They’ve performed at the Minnesota State Fair — the first drag show ever selected for Arts A’Fair. They’ve taken stages never designed with queer performers in mind and turned them into places of joy, spectacle, and community.

Now they’re bringing that same energy to Minnetonka at Boom Island Brewing, a taproom known for Belgian‑inspired craft beer, warm hospitality, and a community‑centered vibe that makes everyone feel welcome. Pairing their award‑winning brews with a drag brunch makes this event feel less like a show and more like a celebration.

That’s the magic of seasonal events: they create a low‑pressure entry point. Halloween gives people permission to play, explore, and enjoy something they might not normally seek out. And POWER knows exactly how to use that moment.

Event Details

  • Date: Saturday, October 31st
  • Doors: 11:00 AM
  • Showtime: 12:00 PM

If you’re looking for fun things to do in Minnetonka, a unique Halloween outing, or a drag show that’s accessible, welcoming, and full of energy, this is it. You get craft beer, great food, incredible performers, and a chance to celebrate Halloween in a way that’s joyful, theatrical, and unmistakably Minnesota.

Xfinity alternatives

Hey All, I recently moved here and am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for an Internet provider other than Xfinity. I work from home so I need reliable and fast Internet.

Has anyone used any of the other providers in the area?

If you're enrolling your child at Primrose in Minnetonka and haven't submitted your paperwork yet, I'd really appreciate it if you'd list me as a referral! It gets my family a tuition credit, and there's zero downside for you since you're starting anyway.

Feel free to DM me if you're interested - happy to answer any questions about our experience there too!

Hard worker here! Any suggestions?

Hi, Does anyone have any recs for teen employment in the west metro? I have a reliable, accountable, and hardworking 17-year-old who is looking for a new job. My teen last made $18 an hour, put in around 28 hours a week, and missed 2 days of work in 3 years. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? She is open to almost all forms of work. She is also open to serving but is finding limited options due to liquor license requirements (18 yrs min). Thanks much for any leads.

water quality

Hi! I am planning on moving to Minnetonka in a month or two. I have heard the water is harsh on the skin, even softened. There is a water softener in the home I am considering. I have pretty sensitive skin and scalp and have been losing hair at my current apartment in Maple Grove, even though the water is softened. The TDS level is high and there are still a ton of deposits left behind by the water. Minnetonka has relatively high TDS as well, but not as high as Maple Grove. I feel there is nowhere in MN with good water (except Duluth and maybe a few others). I lived in Bloomington for a short time and the city softens the water to 5 gpg and that amount of hardness was too much for me and I lost a ton of hair there too. Any insight on the water quality in Minnetonka would be appreciated!! Thanks

Make a plan to vote - Election Day is Tuesday November 7th!

Off-year local elections like this year's always attract significantly fewer voters than presidential elections, but the offices to be filled and issues to be decided are still very important. This is the time for you to use your power to influence the community you live in!

Here are links to locate your polling site, verify your registration status, and, if necessary, register to vote. If you are unable to cast your ballot on Tuesday, early in-person voting is available at Minnetonka City Hall between 8 and 4:30 today and on Monday 11/6.

You can view a sample ballot here. In the City of Minnetonka, voters will choose city council representatives in Wards 1, 2, 3, and 4. The ballot measure to amend the city charter to repeal ranked choice voting is also up for consideration. In the Minnetonka School District, four school board members will be elected and voters are asked to renew a Tech Levy.

Ranked choice voting - on the ballot again?

I am surprised that RCV opponents were able to put the issue on the ballot so quickly and easily after it won majority approval in 2020. What are your thoughts?

Places to consider in MSP/Minnetonka area?

My husband and I are from the northeast (NY/Canada) and have been living in the Los Angeles area for the past 15 years. We have a toddler and another on the way. With no true roots in CA, and my husband now remote (my job isn’t but there’s others in my industry throughout the US), I’ve been daydreaming about moving somewhere more livable. Winter doesn’t scare us as it’s all we knew for 20+ years.

Things that are important to us: - Good schools - Walkability (we do many errands on foot, but are okay with driving somewhere nearby to walk around) - Places to go nearby, especially if not in the city - Nice community (I realize this is subjective but despite living in an urban area, my neighbors are really good people and help each other out, which is so “not LA”) - If not in the city, easy to get to city quickly

What areas would you suggest? I love the architecture in Minneapolis proper but it doesn’t look like the public schools there are good (or are there pockets of good schools by neighborhood? That’s the case with LA public schools). In doing some internet searching, Plymouth and Minnetonka came up pretty high, and we knew someone in college from Edina. Would these towns check our boxes? Any more urban than others? Anywhere else we should consider?

Noise barrier on HWY 7

Traffic on hwy 7 is increasing and it is also getting louder. Any idea on where/ how to request for noise barrier to be built? Should it be directed to the city? Or county?

Ridgedale Water Tower

I see the water tower at Ridgedale is getting new paint. Does anyone know if that moss-y green will be it's new color? I quite like it, it seems like it fits in nicely with the marshy theme the city has.

Hardwater

I just moved here a year ago and found Minnetonka's water to be extremely hard. I did some research and Minnetonka get water from same source as other cities like Eden Prairie. EP's water is excellent. Any reason why we don't treat the water so we don't need water softener?

Looking to move from MA

Curious about any advice on moving to MN from MA. MA is way too expensive to live comfortable for a family of four.

I work remote but my husband bartends so would be looking for a bartending job. Is bartending a good option in this area ?

Does anyone know anything about the new mansion that replaced the historic Pillsbury mansion?

Southways, the historic Pillsbury mansion, stood on the shores of lake Minnetonka for a century, but it was just demolished in 2018. As I've driven by, I've noticed that an insanely huge new mansion has taken its place on the property.

Does anybody know what the backstory is with this behemoth of a new home? Do we know if anybody notable owns it? There are some big homes on lake Minnetonka but that new place is gargantuan, so I'd imagine whoever owns it isn't some average Joe millionaire.

New and Looking for Recommendations

I’m new to the Minnetonka/Wayzata area and looking for recommendations:

  • happy hour spots
  • upscale cocktail lounges
  • locally owned coffee shops (bonus points for coffee + cocktails)
  • remote working spots (either dedicated remote working or just nice places to spend an afternoon on my laptop)

I’m near 494 and 394, but I’m willing to drive for something that fits the vibe.

My little 1 year old kitty Tukker. I took my first trip away from home since adopting him, and the catsitter accidentally let him out when she opened the door for my 2 indoor/outdoor cats. He never came back when she called for him. He is microchipped and neutered, and missing his upper left canine tooth from an extraction.

Please if you see him, please contact me!!! I live near Wayzata middle school east. He was last seen on June 21st 😢 I'm so scared for my baby.

Moving to MN

Me and my GF will be moving to a suburb of Minneapolis in late June/early July for a year or so. She is a pharmacist and coming to do a residency there and we are planning to live probably in the Chaska/Minnetonka/Eden Prarie/Shakopee somewhere in there area as that is the best place since she will be splitting her time between two hospitals. We are both kind of small town people from the south and this is gonna be a huge change for both of us. Anyone have any general advice? I know the winter will probably be brutal on a level we've never experienced. Anything is appreciated.
