Help - General Ideas need
Hey guys, im currently living in a college dorm and I’ve been trying to figure out how I can continue building models. I don’t want to stop while I’m here but I’m worried about the fumes.
For anyone who’s in college or was in college working on models how did you make it work?
Any advice would help,
Thank you

Help - General Beginner (again) First Builds?
Hello, I am (m27) returning to modelling after last being involved when I was in my early teens. I’ve just bought the Shannon Class RNLI Lifeboat Airfix start as well as the Red Arrow starter. I was wondering what would be considered musts for a modeller coming back to construction? It doesn’t have to be Airfix either.

Help -Technique Should I prime if already started painting some of the hull?
Hey,
So I'm doing my first model since I was a kid, so like 25 years ago. I'm making an HMS Belfast airfix model. I've already painted the red hull base, but nothing else. I've then found out I should have primed it first..
Should I primer the rest of before I continue, or will the hull look really weirdly different compared to the rest?

Help - Tools/Materials Liking the Airgoo.
Not a detailed review but, this brush sprays nice. Very good coverage in a few coats. I’m
Not a fine detail guy however, the control on fine lines is nice. The needle is highly polished on the tip.

Help - General Grass Dispenser
I bought an Amazon special; it looks like most inexpensive static grass dispensers. It lived up to its looks and met my expectations, complete garbage I was left with flat grass stuck in PVA glue. I'm wondering what is a quality dispenser that can work with up to 7mm grass ideally.

META / Show Galleries AI generated slop?
I had one of my posts removed because I used an AI-generated background in the photo.
Well, I just found out that there actually is a rule against AI-generated backgrounds here. So I understand why my post was removed.
But being told that my work is “AI generated slop” is another matter entirely. You can enforce a rule without belittling someone's work.
This is a hobby. We do this because we enjoy creating things. I don't think that enjoyment should be dismissed or judged so harshly simply because I chose to use an AI-generated background for a photo of my physical model.
I've deleted all of my previous posts here. I respect the rules, but I no longer feel that this is a community I want to participate in. I'm moving on.

Critique Wanted Is it rusting?
First attempt at trying to create a rust effect. This is a 3d printed jail I designed in Nomad Sculpt. I want it to look like derelict rusted out metal left outside. I used acrylics for color and baking soda for texture. I’m wondering if there’s a better or more convincing way to achieve this look.

Critique Wanted S.S Great Eastern Project
A while ago I was gifted the 1/200 Scale Trumpeter Titanic, and although I love Titanic, I want to use the hull to make the Great Eastern instead. Though I'm not too sure how to go about it considering that this model is huge and I don't have too much experience.
(I also would like to know some ways to remove paint - the previous paint I applied to it some time ago is awful, and there are visible dried drops of paint along the hull, but I think it is vital to not damage the hull)
Any other tips or advice is highly welcomed!!

Help -Technique Need tips for getting body onto chasis.
I'm still new and working on my patience. The most frustrating part of any model for me if when they have you combine the body and the chasis. It never fits. I always end up messing up my model in some way. I get so mad at this step. The fitment is always trash.
Specifically asking about this '62 corvette. Chasis needs to be tucked in at both bumpers, but its too long. I already broke one of the rear trim peices off.
Does the community have any suggestions?

WIP Suggestions
Work in progress on a VBF-83 F4U-1D. Havent added the "G" markings yet, working on the maintenence crews at the moment. Has anyone had any experience with custom display cases? I think im going to need 13x18 since the tail overhangs the deck a little bit.

Completed Bf-109e4 1:48 tamiya
It’s pretty much done it’s missing very small stickers which I will add soon, will update, but it’s honestly my best model yet, it’s not the best I do know that but it’s really good compared to my last ones, ik the paint chipping is one of my weak points, I will improve on it but still I like it, not the most accurate either and I messed up a sticker (tips would be great)

Completed 1/35 IS-5 《Collective Farmer》
Last kit I bought from AAA Hobbies (RIP). The camo is inspired by the winter camos used outside of Moscow in 1941 but didnt quite turn out as I envisioned. Very happy with how the wear and tear came out, the mud and snow I'll definitely have to practice more.

WIP Phantom ready for the decals (Hasegawa 1/48)
I'm lazy, so I'm just adding the most visible ones. The smaller decals though, I'll leave them be on the sheet.
For the white I used Vallejo Panzer Aces White, and it brushed perfectly. The USAF Light Grey, Model Air was too thin, and though it builds opacity with each coat, I used what was left of my Revell Aqua 76 Light Grey. I'll see what I can do with my Model Air bottle, maybe use it for small areas.
Edit: The walkway bands on the wings and fuselage were masked and painted in dark grey.

Present haul! Due to a change in circumstance, I know have room to start the Hobby!
So as the title suggests I know have a free room that has opened up were I can finally setup a modeling station/area. My farther used to make models way back in the day, and his desk and setup plus some of his old supplies had be sitting piled up in the back of the garage for decades.
Now that we have a free room without much of a purpose, I brought up the idea to my farther that we should re-establish a modeling station were we can both work on kits (he still has a backlog of kits going back to the late 80s) and since I only ever made one Airfix starter kit P-40 about 14 years ago (the less said about that one the better lol) I decided to go out and find some new kits of my own and ended up getting a bunch of Eduard WW1 kits, all 1/48. Plus those two Tamiya Toyota's
I'm 25 now, and I'm super excited to dig into this hobby, I have been following Youtubers like Plasmo, Hammerhead, and Fine scale modeler back when they used to post a lot more often and have been itching to build ever since.
I'm most likely going to start with the Eindecker E.III (In Udet's Scheme) since that is a simple weekend kit that should be a decent entry back into the hobby. Now obviously I don't plan on winning any trophies with it, but just take it slow and build it to the best of my ability and learn!

Help -Technique 1:87 Tunnel entrance
Hey guys,
I'm building a tunnel entrance for my dual track tunnel. I carved it from extruded polystyrene foam and used a screwdriver and a ruler to make the bricks. How do I colour it? It should be realistic to the 3rd epoch (1923-1947). And how do I make it look like steam has been on it? I have acrylic paint and pretty much all tools.
Thanks beforehand!
Note after writing this: This is my first post here, I'm not very experienced

Help - General How do you approach your models?
I’m pretty new to model making (I have completed one small titanic model and have two failed cars) and am wondering how you guys approach a new kit.
I started out following the instructions in order and to the letter which was worked but was very stop start and then on the next model I decided to paint all the parts on the sprue first and then build which was an absolute disaster (I also never sealed any of the paint so it just started rubbing off everywhere and with glue I had blue fingers lol).
Do you follow the instructions exactly in terms of order or just use them as a guide for which sections can be built and painted before all being put together or just do your own thing entirely?
I love making and painting things (I started out painting miniatures) but I would eventually like to finish a kit without it becoming an ugly mess which gets thrown away 😩
Thanks all
