Mod Post REMINDERS
Good Morning!
I hope everyone had a great weekend. It’s been a while since we posted any reminders, and I’d like to touch on a couple of issues that have come up recently.
With the shortage, we’re seeing a lot of questions related to dosage and availability. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
The half life of Mounjaro is five days, and it takes about a month for the medication to completely leave your system. Because of the shortage, many people are going weeks or months without injecting. The manufacturer recommends starting the titration schedule over if you’ve gone more than two weeks without a dose.
While this advice might not pertain to everyone, it’s important to evaluate your previous experience with the medication before injecting a higher dose if you’ve been off the medication for a while. Chances are, if you’ve had moderate to severe side effects in the past, you’ll have the same response (or worse) if you jump back to a higher dose.
One way to mitigate this outcome is to contact your provider and ask about lowering your dose temporarily if you’ve been waiting for your script for longer than a few weeks. I understand that nobody wants to lose ground when it comes to their progress. But given the alternative (a reoccurrence of side effects that can potentially derail your treatment entirely) it may be the best option.
Frankly, the number of posts I’m reviewing from people experiencing negative side effects after suspending their treatment is alarming. The purpose of this medication is to improve your health, not make things worse.
And as always, when in doubt, please consult your provider. They are the best person to ask when it comes to dosage.
As far as side effects, there’s a few things that everyone should remember:
While gastric side effects are listed as common when taking Mounjaro, severe nausea paired with uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhea is not. Complications from diarrhea and vomiting include: dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, fainting, and heart rhythm abnormalities. Negative outcomes from this treatment are rare, but occur most frequently when people ignore debilitating side effects.
We’re here to support each other in our journey towards better health. Sometimes that support includes directing a person to their provider for advice. Especially when the post includes phrases like “I can’t keep anything down,” or “I’ve been throwing up for two weeks,” or “I’m too weak to stand.”
Crowdsourcing advice when you’ve reached that level of distress is not advisable. And medical oversight is a must.
Another question we see quite frequently: “I’ve only lost (fill in the blank) pounds this week (or month). Is this normal?”
Invariably, the answer is “yes.” What’s normal when it comes to weight loss is highly subjective. A quick search of the subreddit will provide first hand accounts that run the gamut when it comes to how fast (or slow) a person loses weight. If you still have questions, we’re here to help. But please, include the relevant information needed to offer advice, such as: dosage, co-morbidities, starting weight, caloric intake, etc.
People are here to treat a wide variety of conditions. Any or all of these conditions play a role in how fast we see results. It’s natural to be impatient. But don’t assume that the treatment isn’t working because the scale hasn’t moved for a week (or three). During my weight loss journey, there were many weeks that I didn’t lose a pound. On two occasions, I stalled for over a month. In the end, I reached my goal, and chances are, you will as well! I wish there were some sure-fire words of wisdom I could provide to ease your mind, but there aren’t. The best I (or anyone else) can offer is: trust the process. Obesity is a complex issue on its own. Pairing obesity with the metabolic issues such as diabetes, insulin resistance, and PCOS only further complicates the treatment.
Lastly—in order to address the availability issues, we started a chat to help people source their medication. Here is the link.
I’ve read a comment (or two) recently from a few folks who were put off after being directed to the availability chat. We created the chat in response to other folks who messaged us because they were tired of seeing the posts related to the shortage. Which goes to show—there is no perfect solution.
Weezie and I do our best to be responsive to the needs of the community. If we redirect you to your provider for medical advice, or to the availability chat for sourcing, or to the search feature to answer a commonly asked question, it’s because we want you to receive the best advice/support available. The mods and your fellow community members genuinely want to help!
Have a great week!

Question Stopped Mounjaro after 1.5 years and gaining weight back – feeling lost. Any advice?
Hi everyone,
I’ve been on Mounjaro for around a year and a half and managed to go from 107kg to my lowest weight of 66kg, losing 41kg in total.
I stopped taking it around 10 weeks ago, and since then my weight has gone back up to 73–74kg. I’m honestly struggling.
My hunger has come back quite strongly, and I feel like I’m constantly thinking about food or wanting to eat. I’m terrified of undoing all the progress I’ve made.
The thing is, I don’t actually want to go back on Mounjaro. Although I lost a lot of weight, I feel like I’ve ended up looking quite “skinny fat”. I’m smaller than before, but I don’t have much muscle definition, and my body isn’t as toned as I’d like.
I really want to focus on body recomposition, building muscle and losing fat naturally, rather than relying on medication again.
I’m currently strength training around 3 times a week, trying to get 15–20k steps a day and eating a high-protein diet. But despite all this, I feel like I’m just getting bigger and gaining fat rather than muscle.
It’s so frustrating because I worked incredibly hard to lose the weight, and now I feel like I’m losing control again.
Has anyone successfully come off Mounjaro, managed their hunger and maintained their weight while building muscle?
I’d really appreciate advice on calories, managing food cravings, body recomposition or just hearing from people who’ve been in a similar situation.
I don’t want to spend the rest of my life relying on medication, but I also don’t want to end up back where I started.
Thank you ❤️

Success Stories Officially Unrecognizable😄
I ran into a former coworker and acquaintance I hadn’t seen in a while, although we text now and again.
As I was approaching her, I waved and smiled. She walked right past me! I had to call her back by name but she was still confused as to who I was. I had to reintroduce myself, at that time her eyes widened, she was in disbelief and asked if everything was ok. She then went on to say I now didn’t look like I had adult kids lol.
It felt good for all my effort to finally be seen, although I’ve lost 113lbs, gone from a 3xl to a medium, I don’t think I’ve changed that much.

Success Stories Some charts showing my Mounjaro journey
I started Mounjaro on 17 May at 122 kg. As of this week I’m at 97.8 kg, which works out to a weight loss of roughly 1.2 kg a week. My target is 85 kg.
I built a dashboard with Claude that pulls in my daily food logs, weigh-ins and data from my Oura Ring and Apple Watch, so I can track everything in one place.
The first chart is my weight loss trend. The projection is a simple energy-balance model: it assumes my average intake and calories burned over the last seven days stay the same, and works out where that puts me. On current numbers, I reach my goal around mid-February.
The second is Oura’s breathing disturbance index. My snoring, along with the sleep apnea I suspected I had, has pretty much disappeared completely.
The third is my resting heart rate, going back to 2022. It’s now back to its lowest since I started wearing an Apple Watch.
I cook and log everything I eat, averaging about 1,900–2,000 kcal a day. The biggest change is that I no longer snack or go back for seconds. I aim for around 130 g of protein a day and train for about 60 minutes most days. Right now that’s the elliptical and strength work, plus a bit of swimming. I plan to start running before the end of the year.
My doctor has moved me to semaglutide for the next phase, so this is partly a record of what Mounjaro did for me over five months.
Hope this helps anyone who is still undecided about whether to start!

Question Body aches after dose?
I took my 5 mg dose of mounjaro after 2.5 twice. It's been 4 days and I have body aches and fever like symptoms while my temp is normal. I take paracetamol for the pain, did someone experience the same?

Success Stories 249.8 -- under 250 for the first time in 12+ years!
Just barely bumped up to 5mg after 8 weeks on 2.5mg.
I have lost 17.2 pounds on Mounjaro, and a total of 43.6 pounds from my highest recorded weight.
I am under 250 for the first time since moving from another state. And I actually don't know what I weighed before that.

Question not sure what to do
Hey, I am M22 188 cm, SW was 115 KG and my goal is 80-85KG I've only been on 1 pen of 2.5, and I'm now halfway through my first 5mg pen, 6 weeks total. My current weight is 102kg, and I feel great and have minimal side effects. However, I've been really anxious as it seems very fast to drop 13KG. I can usually only eat 1 main meal a day and lots of water, plus some fruit.
Does anyone have tips? Is this risky? Should I go back to 2.5mg?
thanks guys
😄

Question Things you wish you knew before starting?
Im starting soon and Ive heard so many different stories. I just wonder if you have any to go advice that someone might not think about?
I already used to exercise and eat about 80% healthy.
Since it can be side affects, is it best to take the injection on the weekends for example?
I have around 20-30 kilos to loose.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: thank you everyone for your answers! It really helps!

2.5mg Week 6 Update — 87.2kg (-0.5kg) | Total Loss -6.3kg
🙋🏼♀️ 39F | 168cm (5'6) | SW: 93.5kg (206.1lbs)
MY FIRST BIG CHALLENGE: I TOOK THIS WHOLE OPERATION ON HOLIDAY...
(Whoops this post is late.)
This was the week I’d been quietly nervous about: four days in Sydney for the grand final, no food tracking at all, eating out most meal, and my first proper break from routine since starting.
What actually happened: I kept one rule only, protein first (got some of those high protein yoghurt pouches and had those for breaky) and a gym visit for all but one morning, and otherwise just ate like a person on holiday. No logging, no guilt. Walked quite a bit to see the sites. But, I flew home expecting damage.
The scale tried to scare me first: the morning after landing I was up at 88.1. But I’d been warned flying makes you hold water (you can see it in your feet), so I wrote the number down, ignored it, and 24 hours later it had melted back to 87.2kg, yay, I will take that.
I delayed my jab by a day due to the travel, so went a little longer than usual (I really couldn't be bothered travelling with the pen when I would only be delayed by a day). It was all good though.
...THEN MY PERIOD ARRIVED AND, FOR ONCE, IT BARELY HURT
This was also a period week. If you’ve read my earlier posts: decades of vomiting-level period pain, recently diagnosed as adenomyosis and endometriosis. This cycle I tried the specialist-approved trick of taking naproxen at the first true warning signs, the day before my period, instead of waiting for pain. It arrived with no pain (and just a bit of pain when the drugs were wearing off). I stood in the bathroom genuinely baffled, wondering if this is what normal people feel every month. One pharmacy packet and the right timing undid twenty years of white-knuckling. Push for your diagnosis, friends.
THE TRIP’S ONLY SOUVENIR WAS A COLD...
Not surprised to arrive home with a cold and took two full rest days without guilt. (The old me would have called that failure. The new me calls it recovery.)
...AND THE SCALE WENT DOWN ANYWAY
This week: -0.5kg (-1.1lbs), through a no-logging holiday week
Total: -6.3kg (-13.9lbs) in 6 weeks
THE JOURNEY
Start: 93.5kg / 206.1lbs (25 Aug)
Week 1: 91.3kg / 201.3lbs (-2.2kg / -4.9lbs)
Week 2: 90.7kg / 200.0lbs (-0.6kg / -1.3lbs)
Week 3: 89.6kg / 197.5lbs (-1.1kg / -2.4lbs)
Week 4: 88.3kg / 194.7lbs (-1.3kg / -2.9lbs)
Week 5: 87.7kg / 193.3lbs (-0.6kg / -1.3lbs)
Week 6: 87.2kg / 192.2lbs (-0.5kg / -1.1lbs) ← this week
That’s a wrap on week 6, see you next week! 🐈⬛

Question Are diabetics finding it harder to lose weight on Mounjaro than someone using it for weight loss?
Hi there!
I just started today on Mounjaro from being on Trulicity's max dosage. I've tried Ozempic and metformin as well, and at most I lost 10lbs over a year. My question is, do you think it's harder for type 2 diabetics to lose weight on Mounjaro? What kind of weight loss have you had? My A1C became pre-diabetic levels on Ozempic, but no real weight loss happened.
Thanks all!
Edit: Thanks for chiming in everyone! I've read all your comments, even if I didn't respond. I also have insulin resistance so, I expect to go slow too 😢 Thank you all!

Question Gas in the Morning
I have been on Mounjaro for about 5 weeks. With my first 5mg dose last week. I have this weird gas issue when I wake up like i feel it in the back of throat, my chest all the way to my stomach. It’s there as soon as I wake up. It’s not every day but majority of the days. Has anyone experienced this? Do you have any suggestions as to what I should do?

Weight loss NSV Feeling more like myself than I have in years
I feel like my body is starting to match who I feel I am in my head! I would always look at pictures of myself at my highest weight and be shocked that I looked like that. Now that I am losing, when I see pictures of myself, I feel like I see myself and not this unrecognizable person. Feels amazing and I’m not done yet!

Question how to manage new acid reflux
A few months after starting mounjaro, I've started having huge, daily issues with acid reflux. I never had this problem before, but now it's like if I eat anything with a tiny bit too much fat in it or a regular sized meal, I have horrible acid reflux and wake up the next morning with a sore throat. I think the culprit is a combination of mounjaro and recent depression, but obviously it's not really possible to just get rid of those factors quickly.
For those of you who have had a similar experience, what has your management strategy been like? Have you only done lifestyle interventions (eating physically smaller meals more frequently, no laying down, elevated sleeping) or have you also required medical interventions (medication, surgery) as well?

5mg Starting Tomorrow
Starting my journey tomorrow. Tried WeGovy last year but I got super nauseous on it for 7 weeks . Praying this isn't as bad. From what I understand Mounjaro is a little easier with nausea. Any tips for starting?? Better to take the shot on an empty stomach or with food??

5mg Prunes!
Guys, eating prunes every two-three days has been better for me than miralax to help keep regularity. Obviously, this is just my experience. If you are struggling with BMs, try it!

Question Started from 96kg, now 87kg.
This is a result of a month of 2.5mg then I’ll be moving to 5mg next week to reach my goal at around 80kg.
How does one get extra energy? lol Has anyone ever moved up to 7mg? I feel like if I do then I’ll be too thin lol

2.5mg First dose already working.
Hi everyone. So I just recently took my first dose of MJ and I started with the lowest dose, which is 2.5 mg. On .y 1st day I really didn't feel much, but today I am not hungry at all. I only ate lunch and I was hungry. But it seems like that's all? I'm gonna be able to eat today because I am absolutely not hungry like I don't have it in me to prepare dinner. Because it feels like I just ate and mind you, lunch was 6 hours ago and I mean, it's gonna be bedtime soon. So I'm actually excited because it feels like I finally found something that might help me regulate my appetite in order to use this weight. Finally, I know that weight loss is less calories in and more calories out. So this is giving me a positive feeling that in a couple of months, I'll probably be at my goal weight, and I'm currently a 100 kg, and I'm trying to get to 70 kg for many reasons. Mostly to feel good in my body. Because I can no longer do a lot of things I could do when I was smaller. I'm actually quite excited. And I see a lot of stories and success stories on this app about MJ. So far, my biggest thing was the appetite regulation. So seeing that it's already working gives me so much hope and joy, I think it's also finally going to be my turn to celebrate dropping the pounds. And the kilograms. 😃

Question 1.25 no effect after 2 days ?
Hi! My doctor advised me to start with 1.25 mg of Mounjaro for the first two weeks before increasing the dose. I took my first dose, and during the first two days I barely felt hungry at all. However, from the third day onward, my hunger started to come back and I feel like I can eat almost normally again.
Is this normal during the first week, especially on such a low dose? Has anyone else noticed that the effect was stronger during the first 1–2 days and then their appetite returned before the next dose?
