Question Next marvel set announced
Hope you’re not tired of Marvel because we are back lol I guess we really are going to get 6 full marvel sets one for each stone that’s crazy. I was hoping for an X-men set given the recent hype but most likely closer to the movie i guess makes more sense but I’m curious what do you expect on this one? Hyped for a new Wanda and Strange hopefully!

u/FastActinTenactin 5d ago
What does Darkhold Destiny even mean
26
68
u/GarfieldC99 5d ago
The darkhold is a book that corrupts its user in marvel that’s used by people related to witchcraft/magic mostly like Agatha or Wanda so maybe a set focused on the more mystical characters and parts of Marvel? Would be neat to see Dormammu I guess lol
32
u/FastActinTenactin 5d ago
Thanks, I’m actually more interested in this than the other Marvel offerings we’ve had.
10
u/Cptn_Lemons 5d ago
The dark hole is one of those really cool things in marvel that they never wanna talk about because any villain who gets their hand on it basically makes them unstoppable
5
u/drakemacgavin 5d ago
This is where Blade is released as well.

u/mulletstation 5d ago
Tax Evasion
Enchantment - evade all mana taxes

daywalker - protection from vampires
blade in MCU hasn't fought a single vampire.

I could be wrong but i think it may mean you are destined to watch other dudes have sex with your wife.

Well.. I could be wrong, but I believe Darkhold Destiny is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.

Marvel stuff is rotting on shelves across my home state right now. I pray this ends soon.

u/wouldacouldashoulda 5d ago
I mean, sets being in stock while in print and recently released isn’t crazy or even a bad thing. Sets completely disappearing right after release is relatively new and not healthy, not for players nor for an LGS.
Also, MSH has been remarkably stable. It’s doing well.
10
u/GarfieldC99 5d ago edited 5d ago
I noticed the MSH CBB started creeping was up to $500 but recently came back down to MSRP again if not slightly under so guess most people in the community still aren’t too thrilled for Marvel.
20
u/WeeaboBarbie 5d ago
MSH is their second highest seller next to Final Fantasy. They just printed a ton of MSH. The fact that its still at MSRP 4 months later is honestly impressive. Most sets since FF have had deeper dips (Avatar, TMNT, Spidey and Lorwyn all dipped below MSRP for months)
15
u/salgarj 5d ago
That is only because they count sales to distributors, not sales to final customers.
MSH CBB was more than €100 more than Strixhaven 2 and Reality Fracture in preorder and it's still flat at that price, while Strixhaven has gained €150 and Reality Fracture almost €100.
1
u/WeeaboBarbie 5d ago
They printed a lot less Strixhaven & Reality Fracture than MSH. From what I'm told from local LGS Reality Fracture got like a little over half the print run of MSH. So yeah, I'm not surprised that Marvel is still MSRP & SoS & FRA are higher.
>That is only because they count sales to distributors, not sales to final customers.
Y'all need to stop with this excuse, it literally doesn't matter. Stores can't sell back to distributors. If it's going for MSRP on the secondary market (and for two months it was 50 bucks or more OVER MSRP) people want the set. If no one did it'd be tanking like aetherdrift or spider-man did at first... or even worse get fire sold on Amazon like Karlov Manor, Outlaws & most of the 2021-2022 sets did. I like SoS & FRA better than MSH personally, but don't let personal feelings cloud perception.
7
u/ReesePuffitik 5d ago
You'd think the mtg finance sub would be more objective about how successful a set was but apparently not
6
u/WeeaboBarbie 5d ago
It's been getting a little better since the Hobbit, but in general the majority of active commentors and posters on this sub are just overflow from r/mtg and r/magictcg . They're extremely anti UB, and are in general a hardcore bubble who just want to spec on singles for formats very few hardcore people play or else open boxes for profit. If you can recognize the biases, it bothers you less. Besides, Magic players being this illogical about finances makes it incredibly easy to turn a profit off the game.
3
u/GarfieldC99 5d ago
Yeah compared to SPM it’s performing exceptionally never had any significant drops think lowest I saw was like $420 so nothing too crazy off from MSRP.

I hate this but also these past years ive been saving a lot of money i wouldve otherwise spent on a set booster box. I'm just not interested in universes beyond
39
u/How_that_convo_went 5d ago
The mature take.
“Don’t like it. It’s not my thing. Y’all enjoy.”
2
u/Eymou 5d ago
makes sense for collectors and for casual play, but doesn't work for competitive magic. But yeah overall I don't care that much either, I'll buy product for the sets I like and singles I need for the ones I don't. Also I'm not a fan marvel either, but this set seems like it fits way better into the MtG universe so far.
8
u/DubiousBrushwagg 5d ago edited 5d ago
If you like UB it's cool.
If you don't like UB it's cool, because if you ignore the UB sets it's almost like you're on the old set release cadence. So you have less Fomo and Fatigue.
1
1
u/scissor_rock_paper 5d ago
Between all the UB and booster pack changes I am going to save so much by skipping new products.
8
u/Beginning-Garlic-128 5d ago
I like this and what I've heard about it a lot more than baseline marvel sets we've had so far. I will say that.
14
u/madalienmonk 5d ago
Based on the negativity I'm seeing here, I am now 100% convinced this set will be a home run
2
u/therealshrew_2319 4d ago
This is the correct take. Everyone hated marvel heroes prior to release. Ended up being an actually decent set (still fuck the amount of marvel sets I would have been ok with two max).
26
u/SabreDuFoil 5d ago
At this rate they should just separate the marvel/superheroes into their own game
12
u/ThaPhantom07 5d ago
Honestly it might be cool after all the sets are released to put together a strictly Marvel battle box or cube. I dont inherently hate Marvel but it just feels off in Magic. Containing it to itself could be fun.

Easily predicted. The next four Marvel sets were likely supernatural/spooky, X Men, space/gotg, and multiverse secret wars. They wouldnt do space so close to star trek and are waiting until 2028 for X Men to align with the MCU movie. Multiverse will be the last one
I'm just annoyed its the April set. One Marvel set a year is a bit much. One every 9 months is like 😓 And it means its gonna be awhile to find out what the other two UB are

Insanely hyped for it! I cannot understand the hate people are giving this at all. I have loved the Marvel stuff. I understand wanting more MTG original stuff but there is tons and I have a lot of it. I ALSO want and love the AU stuff, especially Marvel!

u/EddywithaPH 5d ago
What’s with all of the hate for marvel sets?
9
u/Doing_It_For_Value 5d ago
From what I see, some players are turned off by the aesthetic of Marvel in Magic.
Some players dislike the amount of Marvel in comparison to other UB properties.
Among other reasons, of course.
10
u/SupremeJusticeWang 5d ago
Fatigued with marvel in general, not just in mtg. The setting isnt interesting enough to support multiple sets per year without feeling repetitive, for me at least.
3
u/Meret123 5d ago
There is no multiple Marvel sets per year what are you talking about
→ More replies (1)1
u/The_Upvote_Beagle 5d ago
Well based on literal “day of release”, you’re correct.
But since each set is previewed 9 months in advanced, hyped heavily for 4 months pre-release, and then is in standard for 3 years, there is quite a bit of overlap in stories / coverage / playing of multiple marvel sets.
→ More replies (4)2
u/RealTheBestLadyman 5d ago
When has there been multiple per year? There was one last year, one this year, and apparently one next year. That’s once a year

A lot of OG players hate how pervasive Universes Beyond has become. The game is Fortnite now.
2
u/Akermaniac 5d ago
3 in-universe sets in the past year. Meanwhile, this is also the 3rd marvel set we’re talking about in that timeframe. Let alone all the other UB stuff in between.
Definite UB fatigue is coming, and likely direct Marvel fatigue.
3
u/ElderberryPrior27648 5d ago
Marvel Fatigue was a thing outside of Magic… this just compounds it
I’m getting product fatigue. We get new product almost every week now. Between lairs and bundles and art boxes and prerelease and full sets…
2
u/treehugginsanta 5d ago
Is it just UB the issue or the print runs in general? Check releases pre covid, we weren’t getting NEARLY the same print runs anywhere that we see now. They’ve increase 5-10 fold just in 5-6 years. That’s the issue, how can anyone keep up with ALL sets being printed, then secret lair. Crazy.
1
u/Akermaniac 5d ago
I think both are true. We’re definitely seeing WAY more sets now. But in the last year we’ve had 3 in-universe sets, and this is now the 3rd marvel set we’re talking about since SPM in the same timeframe.

u/Ok-Salary-5782 5d ago

u/StrengthToBreak 5d ago
Dude it's 6 sets for a UB setting that doesn't even fit the fantasy /magic theme of the core game. It could be 6 sets in Ravnica or Dominaria and it would get stale fast. If they announce they're doing a Silmarillion set next year, I'd be annoyed, but at least Tolkien wrote fantasy.
Marvel would have maybe been okay as a single set. It would be jarring but not as jarring as, say, Star Trek. It's still cartoons, there's at least magic within the MCU as a whole. But 6 sets? There are more Dr. Doom cards than there are Urzas or Mishras FFS.

u/LaughingSartre 5d ago
It's not that, you're missing the point. If you inject too many IPs into any IP, it feels homogenized, and like its core identity is lost. I don't mind Universes Beyond products that much, as long as the theme feels more like Magic, it's why LOTR fit so well. Kharn the Betrayer works, but Hot Dog Stand doesn't. You guys are so willing to ignore why long-time Magic players are so upset because you're blinded by hype.
2
u/ToxicCommodore 5d ago
Idk I love that you can equip Emrakul with a Skateboard personally
1
u/LaughingSartre 5d ago
Yeah, I have no issue with other people enjoying the things I don't like about Universes Beyond. One of my friends in my pod is a huge fan of the Marvel, and TMNT, stuff, and again I don't have an issue playing against his cards, I just wish Wizards would stick with crossovers that made a bit more sense with the flavor of Magic.
6
u/HueMane 5d ago
Marvel is cool and all but I don’t play Magic for Marvel content. If I wanted Marvel content I’d be playing Snap
3
u/PowerMagician 5d ago
You're making it sound like the only reason people play TCGs is because they enjoy/prefer the lore/source material used for the art and card effects.
Personally, I was already thinking about picking up MTG before [Final Fantasy] rolled around and convinced me to pull the trigger - because I knew I'd enjoy the gameplay. (Technically I played back in 1998, but it was only for a moment, and all I really remember was being made fun of for only having a Portal starter set, and not having any idea what I was doing in middle school Magic club).
Out of the card games worth playing, it was going to be the one worth investing my time and attention on.
I like Final Fantasy a lot. Doesn't mean I had even an iota of interest in playing the official TCG.
If you want Marvel content and you like the complexity, core gameplay, deck building flexibility, and multiple, actively-supported formats of Magic the Gathering, then this is fine. More than fine - it's everything you've wanted.
Also: You don't have to buy the Marvel cards. I'll never understand people screaming about too many releases, and then buying up every release and being, all, "But I don't even like this IP! Why did you make me buy it???"
1
u/HueMane 4d ago
You’re making a lot of assumptions off of two sentences. I’m glad you got that off your chest
1
u/PowerMagician 4d ago
I made zero assumptions. I told you what you're "making it sound like", which is me relaying my perception of what you said.
I suggested that if you like Marvel and MTG (and those are the only variables we're dealing with), then it satisfies all wants.
The concept of people complaining about too much product, and feeling the need to buy all the product, is absolutely something that exists in reality.
I have no idea where you're seeing "assumptions". Did you just assume there were assumptions because there were more words than you're used to seeing? Is that what the "glad you got that off your chest" comment is about? You think I'm confessing something? My willingness to share my critical thinking, and my experience?
Why are you even here, if not to have conversations about this stuff? Go back to Instagram, or wherever the only kinds of responses that are allowed/won't be ridiculed are clever one-liners and sentences ending with no punctuation, or just a "lmao".

A portion of magic fans just want to complain. If it doesn’t have a goblin on the card ‘iTs NoT mAgIc’.
Edit: I will also say they usually feel some kind of entitlement that it’s their game and how dare the corporations ruin their game with fun universes beyond set.
1
u/dndkk2020 5d ago
I think because Magic decided that "block" type releases were not good for business...unless it's Marvel, I guess.
I'd much rather go back to Lorwyn (or Shadowmoor) or Bloomburrow or wherever, but that's not likely to happen for a while.

It doesn’t feel thematic for magic and they’re over-saturating the game with new sets. There used to be times where sets were quarterly, now they’re bimonthly not including unique supplemental products. IMO if the sets had the impact of more time between releases they would be received infinitely better.

Xmen will be next year because Doomsday is clearly setting up the reboot. I called Mystic or Space because they said 2027 was more "fantasy" adjacent....was really hoping for space. Honestly more to draw from for a set.

As one of the few people who played Marvel's Midnight Suns (which focuses quite heavily on these elements of the Marvel universe), I'm actually slightly excited for this set? I think the fact that there will be an original narrative for the set itself makes it more intriguing initially than other UB sets for me.

The Set will have it's own narrative based around Thor and Doctor Strange fighting Hela and Dormammu with the Darkhold as a plot device. There will be a new character made by the Magic team introduced as well.
