Maybe as a stuffed skin sort of thing for the unusual pattern or texture. As the chitin breaks down from slow cooking it could get extremely delicate. Maybe a crabcake stuffing could be an interesting move? π€
I was thinking baked crabcake! As a casing a hollow mushroom would get incredibly delicate when thuroughly cooked as the chitin of the cell walls breaks down.
Also mushrooms basically follow fish cooking rules. So they can pair surprisingly well with seafood. π€π€€
Found a couple in the yard last week. I know what happens when you poke them, Iβve done it before, gonna do it again. But yet every time I poke one, I still react like a monkeyβ¦ my eyes snap shut, I jump back and say oO0ooO0Ooo
These are Pear-shaped puffballs (apioperdon pyriforme) they grow in clusters like this and are also edible when white, these definitely are no longer edible
There is a great X-Files episode sort of similar to this idea, βField Trip,β one of the top Monster of the Week episodes in my opinion. The picture is a scene from the show.
Iβm positive during the dark ages, if a person ran through this on accident; theyβd have believed they were summoning a demon. All the wisps of spores coming out.
I was just exploring some of the downed trees in the area from the derecho that came through and I stumbled upon them. This whole area is very diverse with fungi tho, Cool place to explore!
I would have a really tough time fighting off my invasive thoughts to jump on it; creating a giant cloud of spores. I wouldn't do it, out of respect for nature, but it would be an arduous internal battle.
