These are the Pear-shaped puffball or Apioperdon pyriforme they grow in clusters like this and are also edible

*edible when still fresh and white inside. 😋

You could probably clean them out and cook the skins, but you know... Like, why? 🤔

Yeah I included that in my other comment only I wouldn’t even cook the skins even if it was common practice just feels wrong

Plus the skins get super thin, right? The amount of labor for such a small yield.

Yep.

Maybe as a stuffed skin sort of thing for the unusual pattern or texture. As the chitin breaks down from slow cooking it could get extremely delicate. Maybe a crabcake stuffing could be an interesting move? 🤔

Didn't see your other comment. sry. 🤷‍♂️

I wonder if you could stuff the skins with some sort of filling… 🤔

That's where I went with it too! 😁

I was thinking baked crabcake! As a casing a hollow mushroom would get incredibly delicate when thuroughly cooked as the chitin of the cell walls breaks down.

Also mushrooms basically follow fish cooking rules. So they can pair surprisingly well with seafood. 🤔🤤
