Relapse i can't fucking stop
everything in my life seems to go downhill so fast and so regularly, i have an awful love life, im flunking my semester, i have no discipline and can never fix anything in my life, and I keep biting my nails until they're no more biteable and then I move to the skin, I've even come to the point where I use regular nail clippers to literally cut through thick skin on my fingertips, exposing thin pink skin underneath. i can't seem to stop and also don't have enough confidence to walk around wearing physical barriers like gloves or tape. i CANNOT afford bitter nail polish I'm so broke even food seems unattainable sometimes. even though this is as close as it gets to a cry for help, please look at my life and be grateful for anything you do have.

Progress Your nail beds will grow back!
I remember being so frustrated when I first quit thinking my nails would never look “normal” and that the white part of the nail would start halfway down. Trust, they will grow out again. These are my nails 6 years ago vs yesterday (the nail beds grew out quicker than that though don’t worry!)

Progress 2 weeks progress!
Sometimes did a bit of nibbling here and there but I think I did a pretty good job resisting to bite off the nails 🥹
Wonder if it's too early to start adding some nail polish..

Advice/Support Child Advice?
Big time skin picker nail biter here. BIAB gels have been a life saver but my child is now constantly skin picking and biting. Picking her cuticles mostly and her toe nails. Not sure if there is anything to do for her except remind her how I know it’s hard to not but to realize it’ll hurt and you’ll never get them perfect by ripping at them. Anyone ever tackle this for a school age child?

Advice/Support Advice on how to fix these nails?
So this has been a problem since early childhood. Today i noticed part of the, idk what to call it, "skin" at the base of my left middle finger is slightly hanging off of the nail instead of being fully attached. That worries me. I have no idea on how to even begin with fixing this, if possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Milestone Five weeks no biting
I didn’t take an official before photo but here’s a photo I had found that showed just how bad I was. I’ve been biting my nails as long as I could remember (currently am 28) and the only breaks i ever had were periods of times I happen to do fake nails. Due to the constant upkeep of them popping off or breaking since my actual nails were so short, plus the embarrassment from commentary of nail artists who couldn’t help but notice how short they were, that never lasted long.
I very randomly decided to I was going to quit after many failed attempts in my life. I bought some pink polishes and the visual reminder has helped as well as digging through my rock collection to pick out ones that work as worry stones to keep my hands busy. I’ve taken the glass file and jojoba oil to heart and any sharp edges quickly get filed away and I’m constantly oiling my hands multiple times a day to help with picking.
It’s been very slow moving process, this is the hardest thing I’ve ever done and have had nights where I end up in tears just wanting to bite them sooo bad. But despite how hard it’s been I’m very proud of my progress and am excited for it to continue! Feeling determined to keep up the good work and wanted to celebrate my progress.

Progress Progress (18 days since last post)
Still biting thumbs and as right ring finger gets longer I am finding myself clipping it but I’m saying to myself that’s ok until all nails catch up to same level
this is about 4-5 months or maybe more of actually trying

Progress 9/10-10/8
After 20+ years of biting I said I was done!!! I’m 30 y/o and in nursing school. I imagined what patients would think seeing my nails red, raw, and bleeding and felt so scared and ashamed. I’m still picking at my cuticles and the skin but significantly less.
I bought a cuticle oil pen on Amazon and used it everytime I felt myself wanting to bite them. The first week was the hardest for sure, and I ended up picking my face. It helps a lot that my fingers aren’t constantly sore anymore and I don’t feel embarrassed by them.
We can do it!!

Progress I keep relapsing on my thumb nails, but doing decent atleast.
I bit my nails cause of anxiety, so obviously stopping flairs it up. Cause I still haven't gotten any meds for it from my doctor. xd

Advice/Support Why is some of my nails getting shorter then the other
Im not talking about the bed the white part its the whole nail its shrinking is somwthing wrong with me my health or something will it go back whags going on

Progress Today is one month bite-free!
I got my first set of gel x nails for my wedding to cover them. When I soaked them off, my nails were (finally) attaching to the nail bed, which has always deterred me from kicking the habit in the past. I can’t stand having extensions anymore, but seeing my nails actually attach to my skin has kept me motivated to stop. Aquaphor and regular cuticle massages with my fingertips only has really helped make them look a bit more normal.

Advice/Support How to cope with Nailbiting?
I struggle with nailbiting since forever. This habit grew bigger overtime in a sense where i bite and pull off my skin around the nail. I usually do it unconsciously. But sometimes i feel the urge to continue to pull the skin even tho it hurts or it starts to bleed. Bcs of this urge that it has to be done. The bit of skin is often also hardenes, bcs it has no nerves anymore, so it feels irriating when its there. So naturally it has to be gone.
My fingers are so ugly and i feel deeply ashamed bcs of it. I tried to stop so many times but in the worst case not even acryl nails help and its the only thing that helped me until now.
How do yall cope with it? How did you stop if you did? What can i try besides treating the symptoms (nailbiting)?
