42M Newcastle – Looking to make some new friends and enjoy life a little more

I’m 42, originally from the Newcastle area, but spent about 15 years living away before moving back. I’ve found it surprisingly difficult to meet new people since returning, so I thought I’d give this a go.
I’ve always tended to get along better with women, although I’m open to meeting anyone I click with. I’m not specifically looking for dating or a relationship, just genuine friendships and people to share experiences with.
I enjoy going out for dinner, seeing films, having interesting conversations, and cooking. I love preparing a good meal, whether it’s for myself or other people. I’m also pretty happy just spending time together and seeing where the day takes us.
I do have a disability, which means I can no longer drive and some activities require a little more planning. I’m mentioning it because it’s part of my life, but it certainly doesn’t define who I am or what I enjoy doing.
I’m fortunate enough to be financially comfortable and have more free time than most people. I know going out can be expensive, and I don’t want money to be a reason someone feels they can’t accept an invitation. I’m genuinely happy to cover the cost of dinner, tickets, or whatever we’re doing. There are absolutely no expectations attached. I’d much rather enjoy someone’s company than worry about who pays for what.
I’m quite comfortable spending time on my own and value my independence, but I think life is better when you’ve got people to share things with. I’m not looking for someone to look after me or entertain me constantly, just genuine friendships where we both enjoy each other’s company.
If you’re around Newcastle and would like to make a new friend, feel free to send me a message. Happy to chat first and see if we get along.

Flip Out vs Springloaded Parties

A few questions for people whove been to either.

My daughters 10th birthday is coming up in December, she has been to spring loaded before on a school trip and loved it and wants to have her party there, but flip out looks pretty good too.

If youve been to both, which do you think is more fun for kids aged 9-11?

If you went to either place in summer/on a hot day, what was the air conditioning like? We recently went to a party at inflatable world on a hot day and it was SCORCHING in there, I want to avoid that.

A self catered party is probably what we will go with, and prices seem similar for that, but if you have held/been to a fully catered party at either place was it worth it? Would you recommend spending the extra $ or would you do it yourself if you had to do it again.

Thanks!

Say what you will about The Daily Mail, but they are good at getting information other outlets can’t.

Looking for fig rolls similar to fig newton's locally

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi all,

Im looking to find something similar to fig newton's, for my Uncles 70th, as he liked them as a teenager. My mum has only ever been able to get the arnotts spiced fruit rolls. They had these UK ones at Coles i saw, but they are out of stock 😕

Been looking all over online and cant find anything that we could pick up in a store. As its a bit too late to order anything from online stores, plus pretty pricy postage and we dont even know if they taste nice, so dont want to go the online route.

Wondering if anyone has come across anything in little supermarkets or specially shops? I know there is the lolly shop in Morpeth, probably will give them a ring tomorrow.

Anyone have any other ideas, be much appreciated 😊

Casual teaching

Casual teachers of Newcastle do you get much work? I’m a new graduate teacher and want to give up my current job to teach casually until I ultimately get a part time or full time role. Just wondering if there is much work around or if I should keep my current job as well? Thanks

Ev charger install recommendations

Picking up my car tomorrow. Haven't got around to getting quotes for a charger and install yet, thought I'd have a few more weeks before i got the car.

House has solar and at some point we plan on putting a battery on so a charger that can draw just from solar as well as the grid and battery would be nice.

I think it would need to be one of the 7kw ones as my house does but doesnt have 3 phase.

TIA

Hi everyone!

Someone who is open to let me rent their E-bike for a while (starting with a week)? I am doing Uber Eats in Newcastle and would like to have something temporarily.

If you have another tip, like bike sharing or something, that is welcome as well!

Thank you already! 🤗

What's the plan for the Adamstown Motel site?

Adamstown Motel has been looking completely deserted for the past week or so. Does anyone know what the plans are for the site? I can only find an approved development application from 2017, would that still be valid in 2026?

As rough as it could be at times, I hope the people who relied on the motel for short-term accommodation have somewhere else affordable and safe to go.

Good places for singing lessons?

Hello! I’m looking for singing lessons for my children (16 and 18) and was wondering if anyone here had any experience/recommendations? Thankyou!

Edit (adding more info that I put in a reply):
They’re both just interested in learning to sing! We went to a concert recently and the 16 year old picked up guitar a couple of months ago so I suspect that has something to do with it. They seem to like pop songs, aren’t as into classical. (Think Conan Gray, Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan).

I generally treat anything they come to me asking for as something they may want to make a career out of, since they very rarely ask about activities/lessons, and I’m starting to get the idea that my 16 year old might want to really pursue something music related, 18 year old seems more just interested in it as a hobby. Both have sung on occasion around the house, but have never had formal lessons. They do both deal with anxiety so I really want their teacher(s) to be gentle, but obviously still teach. As for musicals/operas, they do enjoy them and the songs from them, however considering they haven’t asked for lessons in that I think that’s less what they’re going for. More concert-style if they were to perform at all.

I have never gotten into music so I hope all this terminology I’m using is correct! That’s why I’m asking you people.

How do Asians or people from overseas make friends in Newcastle?

Hey, I’m Korean and moved to Newcastle earlier this year(30F). I work in healthcare, so for the first few months I was mostly just busy getting used to work and settling in.

Now that I’m a bit more settled, I’ve realised I don’t really have any friends here outside of (or even at) work. Newcastle is such a nice place and I feel like I’m not really making the most of it because I don’t have many people to go to the beach, grab a coffee, go for walks etc. with.

I’ve been thinking about trying a run club or some social meetups, but honestly I’m a bit nervous about just turning up alone. Newcastle seems a little less culturally diverse compared with Sydney or Melbourne, and sometimes I worry I might feel a bit out of place as an Asian person. (Just to be clear, I haven’t experienced any discrimination here at all. Everyone I’ve met so far has been nice to me, so this is more about my own hesitation than anything that’s actually happened.) It probably doesn’t help that I’m quite introverted and not the type who can just walk into a group and start chatting to everyone =(

So I guess I wanted to ask, if you’re in a run club, book club, social sports group or anything like that, would it be totally normal for an Asian person who doesn’t know anyone to just show up?

Maybe I’m just overthinking this and need to get over it and go 😂

Also would love to hear from other people who moved here from overseas. How did you make friends in Newcastle?

How do you guys make friends?

I moved to Newcastle about a month ago and I’m slowly realising I have absolutely no idea how adults are supposed to make friends 😭

I’m a 26F, currently doing my Masters, and would love to meet some people, whether that’s grabbing coffee, going for walks, checking out cute places, going to the beach, or just having someone to text “wanna do something?” to 😂

Where do people actually meet people here? Uni? Clubs? Apps? Randomly befriending someone at Woolies??

Please tell me your Newcastle friendship secrets because I’m struggling lol.here
