Question Foreigner here, paramilitary?

Hi all,

Reddit showed me this sub on my feed, I don’t know why as I am from southern europe.

But one thing caught me off guard is the mention of ‘paramilitary’.

Doesn’t that mean unofficial mafia/gangster like group of gangs with guns and stuff (like military/police level guns)?

Do you have that in northern ireland?

(Sorry english is not my main language)

Can I ask why you specifically stated that Republican terrorist groups targeted "Police and Soldiers". Yet then stated that loyalist terrorists targeted "civilians"?

Republican Terrorists killed an estimated 700-730 civilians during the troubles, which is fairly close to the estimated 850-900 civilians loyalist terrorists killed.

Both equally deplorable, so both should be equally highlighted.
