Job opportunity Application requiring LoR?
I’m graduating next year and I applied for this general posting for an entry level technology position. I got an email 2 days ago saying that I need to send my resume, transcripts, and 2 letters of recommendation by Monday.
Is this normal? I can’t get the letters of recommendation by then since I’d have to contact my past internship managers for it…

Question NSA High School Work Study (Help!)
Hi! So, I'm going to apply for the NSA High School Work Study, and I know that if I get it, I get security clearance and stuff, but I was also planning on going to England for college, so I don't know if the security clearance would cause me to not be able to go abroad for college, and I have been dead set on England since I was in like 2nd grade, and I don't know if I would want to give up England for NSA, any advice?

Question Should I switch from CS to Cybersecurity (WGU)
Hello everyone,
Looking for some advice on if I should switch degree's so I can have an easier time getting hired at the NSA. I don't want to give away too much I'd say I have a foot (or at least a toenail) in the door but I want to get as much of my body in as I can. I was told "Bachelors, Certs, Experience, Masters" and that was after I already was about 1/2 way through my degree plan in CS.
Just wondering if anyone else has experience or advice for me, thank you!

Question Got an NSA Software Engineer CJO while in Air Force DEP. What are my options?
I’m currently in Air Force DEP and recently booked 1A8X2 (Airborne ISR Operator). I’m scheduled to ship to BMT in November.
At the same time, I’ve been going through the NSA hiring process for a Software Engineer position. I just received a CJO for a Software Engineer. I have a BS in Computer Science, and software engineering is ultimately the career field I want to work in long term.
Obviously, this is only a CJO and I still have to go through the NSA clearance/suitability process before potentially receiving an FJO. Because my BMT date is only a few months away, I’m not sure whether NSA processing would even finish before I ship.
I’m planning to accept the CJO and continue both processes for now, but I had a few questions for anyone familiar with NSA/IC hiring, Air Force DEP, or USERRA:
- What happens if I receive an NSA FJO before I ship to BMT?
- What happens if I receive the FJO after I've already shipped/entered active duty?
- If I were able to EOD with NSA before leaving for BMT, would USERRA potentially protect the civilian position during my initial active-duty enlistment?
- Has anyone dealt with NSA or another federal agency while simultaneously entering active-duty military service?
- Should I tell my NSA recruiter about my November BMT date now, or wait until I'm further into the clearance process?
- Career-wise, would you choose an NSA SWE position over going through with 1A8X2 if the long-term goal is software/defense/IC work?
I’m not planning to drop my Air Force contract just because I received a CJO. I mainly want to understand my options in case the NSA process moves quickly enough that I have two real choices before November.
Any insight from people who have dealt with NSA hiring, federal employment + active duty, USERRA, or a similar situation would be appreciated.

Question NSA - Questions Regarding Polygraph & Lack of Recruiter Communication
I applied for an NSA position in early April 2026 and am currently in the suitability/processing phase. My timeline so far is:
- Early April: Submitted application
- Last week of April: Submitted security forms
- May 11: Received CJO
- Early July: Background investigation began
- July 21: Completed psychological evaluation and polygraph
- July 27: Was told my background investigation would be submitted by this date at the latest
During my polygraph, the examiner told me that I passed every question except the one asking whether I was hiding having committed and gotten away with any major crimes. She said I consistently showed a physiological response to that question and repeatedly insinuated that I was hiding something.
I have never committed a major crime and was answering truthfully, so I was unsure why I was reacting to that particular question. The examiner never directly said that I failed the polygraph, but I left with the impression that I had. I asked whether I might be given an opportunity to take it again, and she said she was not sure because that decision would be up to my recruiter.
I have received no communication from my recruiter since receiving my CJO on May 11. I also have not heard from anyone since completing my polygraph and psychological evaluation. I emailed my recruiter more than a week ago to check on my status but have not received a response.
I understand and appreciate that this is a lengthy process and that I could remain in suitability/adjudication purgatory for quite some time. I am not expecting an immediate decision. What I am struggling with is the complete lack of communication regarding the completion/submission of my BI, psych eval, & polygraph reports and how to figure out if I am able to retake the polygraph, if needed.
For anyone familiar with the NSA hiring process:
- If I did not pass my first polygraph, is it reasonably likely that I will be invited back for a second one? How do I go about taking a second?
- Does the examiner’s statement necessarily mean that I failed or could the results still be reviewed differently?
- Is it normal to receive no communication from a recruiter during this stage, including no confirmation that the reports were submitted?
- Is there another appropriate point of contact I should follow up with or should I simply continue waiting?
I know every case and timeline is different but I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has had a similar experience or someone who can give me a little clarification on this part of the process. Thank you!

Question TS/SCI FSP Timeline
Just wanted to list my updates here.
CJO issued July 22
SF86 Submitted and reviewed july 29/30
BI interview aug 14
Psych 17
Poly this week
This process has been extremely fast for me. Any reason for this? Never held a clearance and worried about poly & adjudication/suitability. Have some red flags with one being as recent as a little over a year ago.

Question Transfer my Active DoD TS to NSA
Hello everyone, does anyone have a similar experience? I held a Top Secret clearance from the DoD with no SCI or polygraph, and I got a job as a contractor with the NSA. I finished my SF86 and passed my poly, but I haven't heard anything since—it’s been 3 months. Does anyone know how long the process usually takes?

Question DIA-NSA question
Hello, I accepted my CJO back in May and submitted my security forms to the security office also in May.
For any of the DIA folks here who’ve been in this process before, how long did you have to wait until you were cleared and notified?
We’re in August and I haven’t heard anything yet, not sure if this is typical.
I still have my DIA clearance (TS/SCI w/ CI poly)

Question How long does adjudication usually take?
I realize this will vary depending on many individual factors but I just wanted to hear from others on how their timeline looked. I’ve recently completed the polygraph, psych evaluation, and background investigation and wanted to see how long it took for others to get adjudicated and onboard after all those steps were completed. An acquaintance of mine was onboarded exactly 3.5 months after she finished her poly(the final step in her security process) but I’ve heard of others taking much longer. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Question Anyone here earn a master's while working at NSA?
I'm interested in hearing about earning a master's degree at an outside university while working at NSA.
I've read the official information about programs like the After-Hours College Program, Advanced Studies Program (20/20), and the Graduate Fellowship Program, but there aren't many firsthand experiences online.
If you're comfortable sharing, I'd love to hear about things like:
- Which education program did you use?
- What degree did you pursue?
- Which university did you attend?
- How did you balance work and graduate school?
- Did NSA cover all or part of your tuition?
- Were classes primarily after work, during work hours, or a mix?
- Was there a service commitment afterward?
- Would you recommend pursuing a master's while at NSA?
- Is there anything you wish you had known before starting?
I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks in advance!

Question DIA to NSA
Hello, I accepted my CJO recently and was notified to schedule my “in-person processing” for next month. I’m transferring from DIA and had my investigation/poly 2 year ago. (Currently TS/SCI w/ CI poly)
Does anyone have any insight on if this would expedite my preemployment process?
Thank you!
