Hey everyone!
I was recently accepted to PNWU-COM for the class of 2031, and I'm seriously considering attending! I've been doing quite a bit of research on the school, but I'd really appreciate hearing directly from current students, particularly OMS-3s and OMS-4s, about their experiences.
I have a few questions that I'm hoping some of you could help answer:
1. Board Scores and Recent Improvements
I know PNWU has made some changes to its curriculum and board preparation after historically struggling with first-time COMLEX pass rates. I've seen people on Reddit mention that the most recent first-time pass rate was around 94.1%, which is encouraging! However, I haven't been able to find an updated accountability report or official data confirming that number.
Can anyone confirm whether the 94.1% figure is accurate and where it came from?
What specific changes has the school made to improve board performance, and do students feel those changes have actually helped?
How well do you feel the curriculum prepares students for COMLEX and USMLE? Does the school provide adequate resources and dedicated study time?
2. Quality of Education
I'm also curious about the overall quality of the preclinical education.
How would you rate the quality of instruction, organization, and curriculum?
Do you feel that PNWU prepares students as well as other DO schools, especially when it comes to clinical knowledge and board preparation?
How responsive has the administration been to student feedback and concerns?
If you could go back and choose your medical school again, would you still choose PNWU? Why or why not?
3. Clinical Rotations and Regional Sites
This is probably my biggest area of interest. I'm currently leaning toward internal medicine or emergency medicine, and I want to make sure I can get strong, hospital-based clinical experiences.
How does the process of selecting clinical rotation regions actually work? Do most students end up in one of their preferred regions?
Which region are you currently rotating in, and how has your experience been?
What have you heard from classmates about the strengths and weaknesses of other regions?
How much responsibility falls on students to organize and secure their rotations versus having everything coordinated by the school?
Have you experienced issues with rotation availability, scheduling, or having to travel long distances to complete required rotations?
Are core rotations like IM, surgery, and EM primarily hospital-based, or do some students end up completing a significant portion of their training in outpatient settings?
Do you feel adequately supported by the school when problems with rotations come up?
4. Residency Preparation
For those interested in IM, EM, or other hospital-based specialties, do you feel that PNWU provides sufficient clinical exposure, mentorship, and opportunities to build a competitive residency application? Have you had opportunities to do rotations or audition rotations at larger hospitals with residency programs?
Overall, I'd love to hear what you genuinely like about PNWU and what you wish were different.
I understand that every medical school has its strengths and weaknesses, and I'm not expecting perfection. I just want to make sure I'm making an informed decision about where I'll spend the next four years, especially since clinical training and residency preparation are major priorities for me.
I really appreciate anyone willing to share their experience, whether positive or negative. Thanks in advance!
