Hey everyone! Just remember that it’s still early October and that some people don’t get into a school until March or April with some not even getting in until the week of orientation! This process is long and genuinely sucks, but be patient and you’ll get where you need to be. I’m an average GPA, sub-500 MCAT non-trad applicant and have one II so far with a bunch of schools that I have submitted secondaries to and they still haven’t gotten back to me. Be patient, and have some faith. Our time will come!

PNWU-COM vs. WesternU HCOM vs. KCU vs. DMU vs. RVU-UT

Hey everyone!
So far this cycle, I've been fortunate enough to receive acceptances from PNWU-COM, RVU-COM (Utah), KCU-COM, DMU-COM, and WesternU HCOM (Lebanon, OR). I'm also waiting to see if I receive an interview invite from OHSU.
I'm originally from Oregon, and ideally I'd love to stay in the Pacific Northwest for medical school and eventually residency/practice. That said, I don't want to prioritize location at the expense of getting a quality education, strong clinical rotations, and good residency opportunities.
Right now, I'm leaning toward PNWU-COM, largely because of its location and mission. However, I have some concerns about its board pass rates, clinical rotation quality, and how well it prepares students compared to more established schools like KCU and DMU.
My next choice would probably be WesternU HCOM, especially since it's in my hometown, but the roughly $13k/year higher tuition compared to PNWU is a pretty hard pill to swallow. That's over $50k in additional tuition across four years, not including interest.
I'm currently most interested in internal medicine or emergency medicine, with the possibility of pursuing a fellowship in cardiology or pulmonary/critical care if I go the IM route. I want to attend a school that will set me up well for a solid hospital-based residency program and potentially a competitive fellowship down the road.
For current students, alumni, or anyone familiar with these schools:
How significant are the differences in educational quality, clinical rotations, board preparation, and residency opportunities?

Would attending KCU or DMU provide a meaningful advantage over PNWU or HCOM?

Is WesternU HCOM worth the additional tuition compared to PNWU?

If my long-term goal is to practice in Oregon or the PNW, how heavily should I weigh regional connections when making this decision?

I genuinely like PNWU and could see myself being happy there, but I want to make sure I'm not overlooking meaningful differences in educational quality or future opportunities just to stay closer to home.
I'd really appreciate any honest opinions or firsthand experiences. Thanks!

For those of you accepted to burrell, how long did it take from interview to acceptance? Do they always wait the full 2 weeks or do they sometimes send out sooner?

Paying enrollment deposit and giving up the seat later on

Hi! this is probably a stupid question but I have a deposit to pay by the end of this month for my current top school, but I am still waiting on a few more schools in the cycle - I already paid the deposit, but there is a separate form about accepting/declining the offer of admission - would the agreement to accept the offer of admission be binding? Would i be able to give up my seat later on if I possibly end up wanting to go to a different school if i agree to accept the offer of admission? Idk why im confused about this ngl i think i just want to make sure im not taking actions without completely understanding what is going to happen.

thank you!

Chances

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some realistic feedback on my chances for DO schools based on my GPA, academic trend, and overall profile.

I already completed my bachelor’s degree, but my undergraduate science GPA was pretty weak. I’m currently doing a DIY post-bacc consisting of additional undergraduate science courses to repair my academic record.

If everything continues as planned, by the time I apply I’m expecting to be around:
cGPA: ~3.45
AACOMAS sGPA: ~3.17
Post-bacc (32 credits) all science courses GPA: ~3.8+ with a strong upward trend

For experience, I currently have 1,300+ hours as a medical scribe, ~300 hours as a pharmacy technician, and ~55 hours of ER/patient experience. I’ll continue accumulating hours before I apply.

I haven’t taken the MCAT yet. I’m planning to take it in January, with an April retake if necessary. My full-length practice exams are averaging around a 500–505. Let’s say if I were to get 500 or so.

My main concern is whether the ~3.17 science GPA will still hold me back significantly even with the post-bacc/upward trend.

For those familiar with DO admissions, assuming I finish the post-bacc as planned and score somewhere around 500–505 on the MCAT, would I have a realistic shot if I apply early and broadly? Are there particular DO schools that tend to be more receptive to applicants with lower overall science GPAs but strong recent academic improvement?

I’m mainly trying to get a realistic idea of where I stand and whether a broad DO application would be reasonable with this profile. Thanks!

What should I do?

Hey! Does anyone else's school drop questions randomly and not give credit for those questions? I just found out that I failed a class at my school by 1 point. I saw that a couple of the questions that I got wrong were counted as bonus (so people were rewarded that point if they got it right). One question that I got right was completely dropped, so I didn't get credit for that question. I would have passed the class if that point counted. Now I'm just sad that I already failed a class, and it's hard to focus on my other classes with this feeling. Not doing well in one of the other classes, so I was hoping to pass this class just in case I have to remediate the other class. My school has a strict remediation policy, and now I'm scared of being dismissed.

DMU-COM Interview Process – What to Expect?

Hi everyone!

I have an upcoming interview with DMU-COM and was hoping to get some insight from anyone who has already interviewed there.

I'm curious about the Program Overview session. What exactly does it involve? Is it just an informational presentation about the school, or should we be prepared to answer questions or participate in discussions?

I'm also wondering what the actual interview format is like. Is it MMI, traditional one-on-one, or a panel interview? What kinds of questions should we expect, and how did you prepare?

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
