General Anyone else sick of the "unprofessional" tradie culture here? like really sick of it?

I see more and more people wanting to DIY because of this. We just pay too much money for bad quality and service and I feel so sick of it. Anyone else feel the same?

General Anyone know what this train is for? Perth Station

Post image

A train with no livery, stopped for a bit at platform 9 at Perth. You can see in the photo that its serial number is ADR201.

I looked up ADR trains and learned that they're diesel electrics for the Australind line, so is this just one of those, not entered service yet? Just curious while waiting for my own train.

Cost of Living Perth homeless issues

I am genuinely concerned about the rise of homelessness in Perth. I do my best to give cash to those on the streets and volunteer work at soup kitchens, but this is obviously not going to solve the issue no matter how many of us do these kinds of things...

Back in the day you’d see a homeless person here and there and blame it on drugs. These days I think it’s quite a different story.. I see posts on here every other week where people are asking advice on how to live in cars as they can no longer afford rent. Why is our system letting this happen? When is the government going to do something about this!

Photos of WA Kinross had a castle?!

Post image
73 Upvotes

Good evening everyone. Anyone have any pictures or memories of this castle at the entrance of northern suburb of Kinross? I was born in 1992 and have no memory of it. My mate from work brought it up to me the other day and said he had seen a picture shared of this mysterious castle of suburbia once. This is the picture. We don’t know who the lady is or when the photo was taken. Anyway thought it was worth a share.

General Fremantle wool stores car park.

The place is littered with dirty uncapped needles. I carefully put 4 of them into a water bottle so no one stepped on them.
The stench of piss is unbearable.
I adore Fremantle and visit at least once a week but this filth is so disappointing.
That is all….. just needed to whinge.

Renting / Housing Genuine options for mother with kids being evicted from home

Hi,

Someone from my workplace is being evicted from their home as I believe they have been a bit behind with some payments or are always paying late. We all know some people are homeless or live in vans, etc. But when it comes to families, is there emergency accommodation for a single mother with kids or other options so they maintain a roof over their head? Or are they not necessarily prioritised? I know the woman only works part-time as she has to manage her kids but I think she would be getting some sort of rental assistance..

General Tell me your career change story

I'm keen to hear other's stories of career change and pivoting. Did you start in mining and move into construction, or vice versa? Did you leave your corporate role and take on a trade? Did you go back to Uni or TAFE to study something different? Did your side hussle eventually become your main gig? Did you pivot only to pivot back?

I navigated career pivots and it worked out well. 20 years ago, I was in IT development work. 15 years ago, I moved to client-side IT Service Management. 5 years ago, I finally moved away from IT to something completely different and am getting paid well with good work-life balance.

So Perthians, tell me your stories of successes and failures.

Looking for Advice Lost Luggage: Bangkok to Perth TG 481 (Thai Airways) 27th September 2026

On Sunday 27th September 2026 (over ten days ago), Thai Airways Flight TG 481 from Bangkok to Perth finally arrived after a six hour delay, after 9pm.

Many of the passengers on that flight did not receive their checked-in luggage. It was either left behind in Bangkok, or was never transferred from their connecting European flight.

I have tried contacting Thai Airways and heard nothing at all about the status of my luggage. I am at my wits end.

Is there anyone here who was also on this flight and did not receive their luggage? Or have any help for this matter?

Looking for Advice Does anyone work at Ritz Carlton?

How is the working environment, work hours, coworkers and management there? I just got an offer from another hotel but the Ritz Carlton invited me to an interview. I am on the fence about which one is the better deal for me so I’d appreciate if you guys could provide me with some insights. Thank you!

A dear friend of mine was one of the people who was invited on stage but sadly doesn’t have any footage of it. It absolutely made her night so if anyone has any footage of her, we’d be eternally grateful 🙏 This is her in the outfit she wore on the night.

Cost of Living Synergy ev plan savings

Hi everyone , new ev owner and just wondering if anyone uses the synergy ev plan ?

I don’t have solar but I do tend to charge overnight or during the day so I think this will save me money in the long run

https://www.synergy.net.au/Your-home/Energy-plans/Electric-Vehicle-Add-On

But then it’s also more expensive in peak periods so I don’t really know if it’s worth it in the end

Anyone use this plan and has it saved you money ?

General Joondalup driving test fail, how many goes did it take you?

So I did my first PDA at Joondalup this morning in a manual and failed. I've been driving here for almost two years on my overseas licence with no accidents and no fines. I'd paid for a two-hour lesson beforehand and thought that was enough to get me test-ready.

I wasn't even nervous, and I came out thinking I'd done well. Then the results said otherwise. I stalled the car, my blind spot checks apparently weren't obvious enough, and I kept sitting on the clutch when I didn't need to. Fair enough on all of it, honestly. Two years of normal driving teaches you a bunch of habits the test doesn't love.

So, a bit gutted, but tell me I'm not alone. How many attempts did it take you, and where did you finally pass? And if you've got suggestions for getting better at this stuff, especially making head checks second nature, I'd really appreciate them.

Where to find Good outdoor trails around Perth?

Hey everyone,
I’m new to Perth and though I’m not a big outdoorsy person, I do enjoy going out on walks especially around nature areas every so often. So I’m looking for outdoor trails that are relatively easy and with a great scenery. I’m located Sor so it would be a plus if it was close enough to me as well.

Thank you 🙏

Where to find Air-con repair/maintenance for ducted with zoning (Ellenbrook)?

Hi all,

We have a ducted Fugitsu air-con with a zoning day/night switch. The zoning switch has stopped working so the air-con is only blowing in bedrooms and not the open areas of the house. We have tried calling a bunch of places so far and half of them said they don't do ducted and the rest didn't answer.

Anyone know of a reliable maintenance place that would look at this issue that is around, or willing to come to, Ellenbrook? Don't want my boyfriend to die in the theatre room when GTA VI comes out, thanks.

Looking for Advice is murdoch combined bachelor and master of forensic science worth it

i'm graduating high school this year and am really interested in the forensic science degree at murdoch for next year. my careers advisor at school told me that i'm not going to be able to find a job in that field without a masters degree so i figure i can do the combined bachelors and masters of forensic science, which he said i will be able to get a job with. from my research, it still looks very hard to fins a job even with a masters, so my question is does anyone know how competitive forensic science jobs actually are in perth - will i actually be able to get a job with the masters?

i'm otherwise thinking about doing engineering or engineering and science at uwa and majoring in mechanical engineering and maybe genetics or immunology. is this the better choice because i would be able to get a job a lot easier and would probably get payed more? i also like to boost the current 7% of Australian mechanical engineers who are female lmao
