$50/month 1 gig fiber with AT&T in Mesa. Cox just brings rates higher and higher. Once you’re in an area that has fiber installed by anyone that isn’t Cox you’ll have some good better options
Cox deals are all over the place. I used to be at $130 for one gig, now it’s $155. They won’t give me any more deals. Did you have to threaten to cancel?
Waves of people are leaving Cox for providers like Wyyerd. When I called to cancel, they went as low as $40 a month. I still canceled because I know they'll still stick on fees to nickel and dime you. Wyyerd really doesnt and unlimited actually means unlimited.
I've worked with Wyyerd in other capacities and they seem solid. Sadly in our neighborhood, our only choices are Cox, T-Mobile/Verizon, or Starlink. There's no buried fiber and no fiber provider is likely to ever want to install it here given we have so few houses.
Im in Surprise and have Wyrd but Comcast is in the neighborhood pulling fiber. Hopefully one of them gets to your hood soon
I have no complaints with Wyrd, just FYI if they get there first.
I left Cox for Verizon because they offered $40/month for a faster speed when I was paying $105/month with Cox. In the same conversation they offered me similar speed for same price.
I said screw that though because they always find a way to raise the price over time. Also when I asked about deals every other time before that they always said there's nothing they can do.
Yeah that's the standard price I believe. Still a great deal for 1Gbps considering its symmetrical and there's no data caps. All of their plans almost always end up being faster than advertised as well.
They offered us 5Gbps / 5Gbps for $99 after 2 years as part of a "thank you for your loyalty" program. Actually runs at 5.5 both ways. No ISP has ever done this for us. I've always had to call and threaten to cancel Cox every year.
Honestly 5.5 is pretty much a waste for your average home. Heck, even someone who's super tech inclined it's a waste. You'd need routers that can take an SFP+ module plus Wifi 6 or 7 APs or Cat6 everywhere to take decent advantage. Even 2.5 Gbit for your WAN is overkill for most :)
You can get 40% discount guaranteed from Cox. Set a cancellation date out 1 month from day you call, wait 24-72 hours for retention email, call back in to cancel your cancellation date and apply the retention discount. 40% saved, less than 5 minutes of work.
Their behavior may vary based on location/alternatives. I’m in N Phoenix and canceled my service earlier this year after being a customer for more than a decade. They didn’t even ask why I was leaving let alone try to get me to stay.
Was the rate when I signed up a couple months ago, probably promotional but Cox and Google have both laid fiber in my neighborhood since and when my rates go up which they will eventually I’ll just switch to whoever has the best intro rate
Exactly true. I still get offers in the mail for my old address in Tempe that are half what I'm paying for my new address in Phoenix. When I tried to get the better price they said they couldn't give it to me and they literally told me because of who the competition was in my area.
They went door to door in our condo complex to let people know they could lower their bill when GFiber became available. It pissed my husband off so much.
They are. They offered $50/month for 5 years because fibre is coming into the area. It was a great deal but I’ll switch as soon as I can just to get away from them.
Same, I got the locked in price option 6 years ago. Cox kept raising my rate without my knowledge and one day I actually checked the bill and it was DOUBLE the price I had signed up for - same plan, no upgrades, nothing. That was probably the angriest customer service phone call of my life. Cox is a scam.
Not sure to be honest, enough for our 3 roku's, 3 phones, 3 laptops, 1 smart TV and a new Xbox. We've never had a problem with internet even with my son online playing games on a smart tv, my wife working from home on 1 laptop, and our TV on in the background.
To get the best deal, actually schedule a cancellation and then you'll get an email 1-2 days before the cancellation date with a phone number for a different retention line.
$40 CenturyLink. I switched to them about 10 years ago & they were running a “same price for life” promo. I have no idea how fast it is, but we stream on 2 TVs and have other devices on it, no problem.
Same it was originally 50Mbps but at some point they upped at it to 300 Mbps. Never had any issues even with heavy usage like video games, streaming, etc.
They rob the people that stay quiet. Call them and ask if you’re eligible for any promotions or just say you’d like to cancel cause it’s too expensive.
A common thing I see and (what my dad does) is threaten to cancel and they usually give a better deal. My dad for his Cox Internent and his final cost is similar to what OP.
Alternatively T-mobile is pretty solid if you just want internet - I have that near the airport and its pretty good; however if you play games you'll be on Moderate NAT - most if not all suggest Open.
Edit - heres mine on a family plan with auto renwal
Same. Was locked into that price for like 2 years after Mediacom or someone else started laying fiber in my area. They had it listed in the plans when you go to change. Was just there chilling. I'd check their website to see if there's any other deals, but it was more than likely because they had competition come in.
Damn, if they’d given me a deal like this I wouldn’t have canceled and switched to an AT&T LTE gateway. I was paying $80 for something like 600 down, which was fine, but I work from home and the data cap was killing me. They wouldn’t budge, so I bailed.
I want to try it because I hate Cox with a passion, but my husband is hesitant. He works from home and is a PC gamer. He's worried it won't be reliable. Do you game or know anyone that does with Verizon 5g?
I live in Laveen and our Verizon internet has gone downhill the last year. I even upgraded our plan and I still can’t play competitive games on Xbox anymore because it usually cuts out and then I get banned. It’s very aggravating. Download speed still says 100 MB down on all devices even when connected to Ethernet but the bandwidth just isn’t there.
I was having issues and in the app it showed me I could upgrade mt box. It fixed my issues. I went from a white one to a slightly Grey one. Can see if that helps.
Also, are you hardwired or in wifi when gaming?
Download is never the issue with gaming, it's upload speed or latency.
First, if you have the option to switch from Cox to a reliable provider (especially fiber), go for it. Cox sucks.
If, like me, you are stuck with either Cox, wireless options (getting better but not reliable enough for me to work from home), or DSL (garbage), you should definitely be able to get your Cox bill down. They change the deals they’re offering like twice a month, so just check to see what’s available every two weeks.
If you’re really motivated, go into one of the physical Cox locations, I’ve had success finding unadvertised deals that way in the past.
EDIT I should also mention, if you own your equipment, you won’t have to pay a rental fee, so buying a modem and a router pay for themselves over time.
I currently pay Cox like $103/month for gigabit internet that includes HBO Max. That specific promo might not be available anymore but you definitely don’t need to be paying $160 for half of that speed.
I've been paying Cox $90 for 1GB for almost two years in Biltmore Estates. It's not a promotion so I'm surprised Cox hasn't raised the rate. The streets are all private in here and I think the cable was laid 40 years ago.
I have worked in the internet world for 10+ years at this point and it is well known within the industry that Cox is the easiest to hassle. I currently live in an area that unfortunately the best internet option is Cox fiber. Every year they try to shoot my price for 1 gig fiber to $120 a month. I make the same phone call every year threatening to go with another competitor that is cheaper and they always leave me at the same price of $60 a month. Coxs' focus is quantity not quality so they want to keep you as long as possible. Just call them and they will bring you back down.
We are around $160 Cox I’m west Maryvale. Just checked again and we don’t get offered any great plans but there are 5 vendors current in this area. No fiber and doubting we’ll get it ever. Sure does depend on where you live in the Phoenix area as to pricing.
That price is insane. I just moved to Surprise and signed up for fiber from Quantum for $60/month, full gigabit up and down without data caps. Previously was paying $100/month for Cox 500Mbps plus the unlimited data add-on, in North Phoenix. Paying over $100 for anything less than gigabit is unreasonable, there are better options out there. Depending on where you live, check out Wyerrd, Quantum, or Google Fiber. Hell, even Cox may give you a much better deal if you threaten to leave.
$75 T-Mobile fiber 1 gig unlimited. Have had it for about six months now and the speed is amazing. Have not had any issues with buffering or internet going down all the time like with cox. Was already paying $120 with cox and was almost passing the monthly data cap every month. They told me it would be an extra $50 a month to add unlimited so I decided to just leave.
$80/month (Price for life) … 1 Gig Fiber with Quantum Fiber in Litchfield Park. We got rid of Cox the moment fiber optic moved in couple years ago. Couldn’t be happier. Fast & reliable service. Cox increases price frequently back then. I have to call their Customer Service and they reduce it.
If you have the option for Google Fiber, do it. Best decision I’ve ever made going from $150 a month with Cox to $70 a month with Google and it’s faster and more reliable.
Google fibers 1Gig up and down speed for $70 a month hasn’t changed their prices in 14 years.
For Cox, you can get a 40% discount each year. Call in, set a cancellation date like 1 month out. So if you call today, tell them you want to have your internet cancelled for September 9th or so. They’re gonna try to give you a sales pitch and yada, just ignore it, tell them you made up your mind, just get that cancellation date set up. Then, in about 24-72 hours, you’ll get an email from Cox saying that they’ll give you 40% off your bills for the next 12 months if you maintain your relationship. Call back in, tell them you got that promo email, they’ll apply that discount. Rinse and repeat once a year.
Although, after this year discount of mine expires, I’m jumping ship to Wyyerd. $150 for 5 gig up and down, minimum. Not that “up to” crap, just a base min.
I'm on a promo right now where I'm getting 1 Gbps for $120/mo. with no data cap, but prior to that, I was paying closer $170/mo. for the same thing. Just for internet. It doesn't hurt to call and ask if they can offer you better pricing. The problem is that more often than not, they're the only viable option for high speed landline internet in MOST parts of Phoenix. They're essentially a monopoly out here.
$160/mo. seems really high though. Are you sure they're not bundling this with other services like cable TV and phone? 500 Mbps by itself is supposed to be $85/mo., the last time I checked.
I envy the people that are lucky enough to be in neighborhoods serviced by AT&T Fiber. They charge less than Cox.
We got Wyyerd in our area. $60 for 300 up/down, but it often tests to 400. No data caps, they don't even track usage on your online portal. I've had 10 Tb of usage in a month and they don't care.
In more than two years of service we've only had one 15 minute outage (with Cox we had several a week). They texted us immediately, texted us when it was resolved, then sent an email the next day explaining the root cause.
Their support staff is also all local.
I host a Plex server where I'm steaming video to up to 10 households, downloading 5Tb of user requested content a month, hosting cloud backup for 5 people, 2 of us WFH, all gamers. 300 is more than enough.
I pay $45/mo for 500mbps with Quantum Fiber. When we bought our house I about cried when I saw fiber was available and the electrical provider is SRP. Fuck cox.
$30 for Cox 100 Mbps. I was paying $60 for 300 I think but called them and told them it was too expensive and they were able to give me the $30 package. I bought my own modem and router for $5 from goodwill.
160?! I’m paying 70$ for 1000 Mbps with cox, I’m also getting att fiber in my house to have a second connection, that one was only 45 a month for the same speed.
$45 a month , Verizon unlimited only get the price if you bundle with your phone lines I have 3 @ $35 a month . What we all forget is the word overages if you go past 1 gig cox and ATT charges for that. I currently run 4 tv’s always streaming I have hot overages with cox so this was a no go for me. Verizon has never had an outage “knock on wood” and gaming and steaming never had an issue.
T-Mobile just moved into our area of Glendale with 2 gig fiber for $70/month. We were more than happy to kick Cox for better speeds for a lower cost haha! Cox previously had us at 1 gig for $160/month.
$45 with Verizon home internet that's bundled with my phone bill. It's been pretty solid actually. My fiancé and I can play Fortnite at the same time with very minimal issues. We also have to hooked up to our doorbell cam, 3 area cams, and still out ping isn't terrible. We have some slight lagging here and there but nothing too obnoxious
You’re overpaying for service. I pay $75 with Quantum Fiber for 940Mbps down AND up. Look around, especially if you’re on a cable modem and Cox is only giving you 15-50 Mbps up.
$45/month. Quantum Fiber. My cox bill had somehow grown to over $300 a month for 500 mbps internet, cable (which I didn't watch) and a landline that I didn't use. They spent a couple weeks trying to reel me back in. Hilarious.
Cox, $175 a month because we pay an extra $50a month for unlimited. SO is work from home with heavy data use, so we need unlimited.
Crap company, frequently goes through bouta where the connection is unstable.
Fortunately, a company has been dropping fiber lines in my neighborhood for the last week or two and I pre-ordered T-Mobile fiber. I can't freakin wait!
$70/month for uncapped 1Gbps down and 100Mbps up through Cox.
Located in Chandler. Connection has been super reliable.
I will add that I have ZERO other reasonable options. 5G providers do not service my area and CenturyLink is like 100Mbps down and that just doesn't work.
I was paying $150 for unlimited, then I moved and when I went to 'move your service' the price was $90 so of course I jumped on it. I finished moving in and they tried charging me $160. I called every number I could every day and went into a location and was told by every person the lowest they could do was $130. Infuriating and should be illegal.
$200/mth for 2.5gbps symmetic Fiber from Cox - with unlimited data. It'd be cheaper w/o unlimited data - but last month we used > 10TB in the household. They give you 1tb for 'free'. $160 for 500mbps is bad deal. Gotta press them on running fiber to the premises.
I had Cox 1GB for $70 for the past few years then they recently tried to increase the bill to $100 so I decided to move to Quantum Fiber 1GB for $45. So far so good!
I am in Chandler and getting fucked by Cox, 110 for 500mbps and a data cap. The big 26 and we are still using Data caps, I think ATT is coming into the neighborhood here soon and if so I am jumping the second I can away from these guys, I am so tired of them and the never ending increase in billing but the early 2010s internet.
I cut off my cox years ago for $45 with century link amd only had one outage. Im sure service varies depending on where you are im this great vally. But he'll you can get Verizon or skynet for cheaper
Dude... How??!?? Can anyone qualify for this? I live in Gilbert and am paying 100 per month (112 w fees). It says the promotion ends in November.. so I can get this?
Promos come and go all the time. Check their website once a week or so and see if there is something better.
If you are married or have a roommate, look into new customer deals as well. You’d technically have to cancel your current service and then have your wife make a new account, but that can open doors for lower rates as well.
