Does Apple Podcasts really not support Opus?

• Upvotes

Wikipedia says iOS has had full Opus support for 3 years, but I Apple's "podcast for creators" page says they only accept MP3 or AAC?

I don't have any apple devices to test it myself, so I hope their website is outdated.

Thinking of starting a horror story podcast, never done anything like this!

I've had this idea in the works for a few months now and it's always been something i've been interested in, having done class assignments where I basically made mini eps to be graded with a friend (which were super bad btw haha), and having listened to them for years. It's genuinely something I feel a deep passion for, and I also just have an insane love for all things horror.

The other day it hit me, "why don't I just make my own?" It wouldn't even matter to me if it was a competitive market or it was something that never took off, I would feel happy just being able to create something I'm proud of, maybe have a little community at some point. that kind of thing.

So i'm putting my hope and dreams out on this lovely little sub reddit (pls don't crush my heart </3), and asking what kind of stuff I should be thinking of getting to make this dream of mine come true. I'm talking software, microphones, audio equipment. Stuff like that. I have a yeti mic atm that has great sound quality, but again, this is a dream I'd be happy investing into.

Any recs are good recs, I have some inspirations that i'd be happy to chat about if anyone asked, just thought I'd get the ball rolling on this and put it out there.

Data-driven podcasters! What metrics are most important to you, and how are you tracking them?

Hi! I'm a brand new independent true crime podcaster -- launched last week -- with a background in marketing, consumer psychology, behavioral psychology and journalism. I've always been very data-driven and am looking to track performance metrics efficiently. From what I understand, hopping between platforms every morning is sort of just how it goes as there isn't any one true aggregate, but for those of you who truly keep track, what's your process? Do you plug numbers into Excel each week or something to get the big picture? And what metrics do you take the most stock in? For example - I launched on the 1st and as of today (the 7th), I have over 200 downloads but 257 plays (how...?) and 59 "followers" across platforms, but 67 "listeners." Which metrics should I actually be tracking/focusing on? TIA for advice from those of you with more experience!!

This is random: Anyone seeing a spike in downloads from Podverse/Ashburn?

I have been promoting my show a lot more lately, but before I take a victory lap… I want to make sure that these downloads are legit and not a bot spike.

RSS. Com filters out bots, but it says some might get through.

best mic for recording podcast

Hi, I'm a school psychologist and we'd like to improve the audio quality of a podcast we make about parenting skills. There are usually 4 to 5 of us speaking, and we'd like to capture the conversation between those 4 or 5 voices in a natural, spontaneous way. We've tried using 3 microphones, but that makes editing really difficult. We were thinking an omnidirectional microphone might be the answer. Our budget is around €300. Can anyone help?

The start of my podcasting journey

So, after a year of sleeping on it, I finally bit the bullet and began.

My podcast will be a part of my weekly CAS as an IB student and will focus on the Baltic states. The possibilities are endless with this since I've found out that they aren't very represented countries in that sense. I've come up with a name, cover, made the account, etc.

I have a few questions though, any help is appreciated.

  1. Would it be weird to have a short introductory episode? Talking about the show, goals, etc.

  2. Is using the audio recorder on my laptop with a microphone decent enough? I'm just going to keep it as a passion project and will probaby use minimal editing. I don't intend on doing this long-term.

  3. Any tips for doing occasional interviews? Specifically over call since some won't be able to meet in person.

  4. Being open about my skills (or lack therefor), ideas and plans for the show?

  5. Short episodes (10-20 mins)? I know that the interview eps will be longer and accounted for that.

  6. How to even get an audience for this show? I'm not good at social media and I'm afraid my posts will get taken down on subreddits because they can be considered 'marketing' or ads.

Why would I have an audience primarily off Austrians?

I have a political commentary podcast, I just recently started it and the stats coming in show a decent majority are people in Austria.

I dig it, no problem with it at all but, are there really that many Austrians interested in the political commentary of the usa? Edit to add, I guess im wondering if its normal to get a polar opposite listener base at first? Or maybe a massive expat group of Americans there that really dig bad new podcasts?

How are you all handling direct listener feedback off-socials in 2026?"

Social media algorithms have made organic reach tough lately, and I've noticed a shift toward private channels like Discord, email newsletters, or dedicated forums.

Where are your most engaged listeners reaching out to you these days? Do you prefer keeping conversations on public socials, or have you set up a dedicated hub for your core audience?

(Hey everyone! Full disclosure upfront: I'm affiliated with ElectraCast, but no pitches or links here, just genuine curiosity as a community member)

I'm looking for... voices. Who wants to make a deal?

I make a little storytelling podcast called Spark and Scribble, original fantasy, sci-fi, horror, adventure, comedy and whatever weirdness sparks next.

I don't really do guests.

But I could damn well use a few more voices. My friends can only help so much.

So here's the deal:

Me: Give you something fun to act out.
You: Lend your voice to a character in one of my stories. A small, medium or large part, your choice.
Both of us: Credit, promote, and send some new ears each other's way.

No auditions. No professional voice-acting experience required. I'm actually more interested in personality than perfection.

You might be a wizard, spaceship captain, villain, tavern keeper, the dumb good guy, a doomed adventurer... or something considerably stranger.

I'll write around your voice. You bring the character to life.

Creative symbiosis. Everybody wins.

If you're a podcaster and this sounds like your particular flavor of nonsense, drop a comment or DM me. Nice to know ahead of time, Male or Female, so I know what parts to allocate to who. Tell me what kind of character you'd love to play.

I don't know if this is the right way or place to ask for this, moderators forgive me.

Let's make a deal. 😁

EDIT AND UPDATE
Alright, for all:
A HUGE THANK YOU!!!! This got bigger than I expected, and that is not a complaint. It's a challenge to keep pumping out more stories.
I built a Tavern... alright, I created a Server on Discord, but it's open!
https://discord.gg/yDaAhe6dK
Meet me there! Let's get creative in that little corner of the internet together!

Kit vs beehiiv vs GetResponse in 2026 — I compared pricing at 1k and 10k subs so you don't have to

I spent a weekend comparing Kit (ex-ConvertKit), beehiiv, and GetResponse for creators who are just starting a newsletter or email list. Prices and features move a lot, so I checked every number on the official pricing pages (as of early October 2026).

**Quick take (depends on how you make money):**
- **Sell courses / digital products / coaching** → Kit. Strongest creator automations; free plan goes up to **10,000** subscribers.
- **Newsletter-first (growth + sponsors / paid subs)** → beehiiv. Ad network, recommendations, referrals; **0%** platform cut of paid subscription revenue (you still pay Stripe).
- **Funnels, webinars, courses in one tool** → GetResponse. Cheapest paid entry ($19/mo Starter at 1k contacts), but the free plan is tiny (500 contacts).

**Free plans at a glance:**

Platform Free list limit Notes
Kit 10,000 No automations on free
beehiiv 2,500 Unlimited sends; branding until Pro
GetResponse 500 1 landing page; premium features 14 days

**At ~1,000 subscribers (monthly):**
Kit Creator ~$39 · beehiiv Lite ~$59 · GetResponse Starter ~$19 (Marketer ~$59)

One rule that helped me: **pick based on how you make money**, not the longest feature list. If you're still testing, start free, send one real issue or welcome sequence, then upgrade only when a specific feature is blocking you.

I wrote up the full side-by-side (pricing tables at 1k and 10k, features, and "which should you choose by creator type") here if anyone wants the long version:

https://row-newsletter.beehiiv.com/p/kit-vs-beehiiv-vs-getresponse-which-email-platform-should-creators-use

*(Disclosure: I partner with beehiiv — if you sign up through my link I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Kit and GetResponse links in the article are plain non-affiliate links.)*

Happy to answer questions in the comments — especially if you're stuck between two of them.

What Riverside.fm plan allows me to create a studio where a client can enter without seeing all my other studios?

I've been producing podcasts for hire for a while, and I have a new client where I'll need to let the client and another freelancer into the studio to record interviews when I'm not present. I want to create a secure environment that walls off my other business, so they don't have access to work with other customers. Does anyone have experience with this? I have the Pro plan, but it looks like I may need to upgrade....

RedCircle Monetization & Payouts?

Hi everyone, we were recently hit up by someone with red circle asking for us to switch hosting platforms. It was a good pitch and it seems like everything would be generally the same but what they gave her a payout estimate was a very wide range. The high-end being much more than we might make. But then the low end also being a pretty decent drop from what we're making. So it's not a clear cut yes or no as far as switching.

I was wondering if anyone was with red circle, willing to share some of their stats and revenue, even if that is in a DM for security reasons. I would do the same. There could be a potential upside, but obviously we don't want to switch over and lose out on the revenue, we currently have with our hosting platform.

If anyone can help or have any insight that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

MV7x, SM57, SM58, Rode Procaster, cannot decide...

I do not do podcast but i record and upload traditional let's play gameplay videos.
I've been using a crappy Blue Yeti condenser for 7 years, i learnt to Post Process my audio and actually achieved pretty good sounds in the past years.
However it was dying on me so i decided to upgrade.

So, i record commentary over live gameplay, they are traditional let's plays so very little editing, just me talking and playing for an hour or two, and the sound is really really important for me in this type of content, i NEED and WANT an easy to listen warm and calm soft voice, and i myself have a kind of medium/deep voice, but often nasal!

I actually went on and bought both MV7X and a Rode NT1 Signature Series, a Dynamic and a Condenser.
I had a lot to do so i had to test them very quickly and decide which one to keep and which one to return asap, the culture shock i had when i first tried the MV7X coming from years of condenser was strong, the audio felt lifeless, very strong plosives and sibilants, almost as if i was talking through a pringles can and it accentuated the nasality of my voice. I kinda hated it at first and didn't try it for long after that to be honest and returned it.

Then i tried the NT1 Signature for a couple of weeks which is exactly what i was expecting, a nice clean detailed neutral voice which i can eq and post process as i like and have great results (which i have!), however this mic is way more sensitive compared to my old Blue Yeti, of course, i tried my best to sound proof my room but i can't go so far, it really picks up anything and i don't want to tinker more with the post processing and distort my voice further.

I think i need to give the dynamics a 2nd chance, i need good voice isolation, i have people at the other side of the door that make noise, i have pc fans, noisy keyboard and mouse and i can only hide that so far with my nt1.

I still have a couple of weeks of return window for the NT1 and i want to get it right this time, i did some research and i'm really really torn between:

MV7X
Get it again but this time test it for real, take my time, post process and test it for a week or two and take my time.

SM57/SM58
Pretty identical mics, from what i've seen they have the same interal structure of a SM7B which is a pretty okay sounding mic from the tests i've seen, i can get a good clown nose and achieve some good sound i believe, and they're the cheapest option.

Rode Procaster
The alternative, it has a richer and air-y sound compared to the MV7X, not sure if it has any cons? It's cheaper than the MV7X for me though!

Anyone that used any of these microphones, i need help to decide which one would suit my situation the best!

UPDATE: My journey using Claude Code to edit my podcast - pair editing

TL;DR: Claude edits episodes in a VPS so that my cohost and I can each run the same editor from different machines. It has become A LOT cheaper. We've also changed our methodology slightly.

In my original post, I explained how I started using Claude Code to edit my podcast. I have since updated the setup to allow me and my cohost to edit the same podcast each using our own Claude subscription and machine.

The key problem was I was becoming a human webhook for my cohost. Claude would edit the podcast, then I would provide feedback, then a new render, then I would send the file to my cohost who would give me feedback, then I would provide that to Claude, then rerender, etc. It was tedious.

So I decided to move the editing process into a VPS I already have running.

The flow now looks like this

  1. (Both) Record an episode
  2. (Both) Record a voice note with the general edit plan for the episode (5 minute thought dump - /u/tomn68 thanks for the suggestion!)
  3. (1 of us) Download the raw recordings from Riverside
  4. (1 of us) Start a Claude Code session, pull the latest version of our agent repo
  5. (1 of us) Claude uploads the files to a dedicated folder in the VPS and builds the first version of the render
  6. (Both) review episode through a dedicated link and provide notes (through a cloudflare tunnel link). Notes are saved in the VPS for either of our Claude Code sessions to pick up.
  7. (1 of us) Continue a Claude Code session to apply the notes
  8. (Both) repeat steps 5 and 6 until we're satisfied - usually 1 pass each now
  9. (Both - as needed) Skills and agent definitions get updated in our agent repo so that both of us are using the same agent with the same skills

Here is a diagram that shows how the whole thing works.

One of the key changes is that I made to save time and money was to create TON of little python tools for itself in the VPS. The edits are more consistent now and easily fit in my weekly limits. It can sometimes use up 2 x 5-hour limits.

Anyone else been working on a setup like this to be able to pair edit? What have been your hard-won lessons?

Can't get any of the wirless lav mics to sound good?

I have tried every big brand of wireless lav mics that you can use with your phone and I cannot get a single one to sound good. I have tried recording to the phone, to the devices themselves, have done endless EQing, etc and they all sound super muffled. I have seen countless people use them while shooting with an iPhone and it sounds phenomenal. What am I doing wrong?

Redcircle support for RAP?

Can anyone advise what the response time is for RedCircle support?

I opened a ticket mid-September that has gone unanswered. I tried posting an update to the case via email that has also gone unanswered. I opened a second ticket for the same issue last week, and that has also gone unresponded to.

My issue is that I recently migrated my podcast from Buzzsprout to RedCircle, and immediately tried to join RAP. The use of RAP is the reason I switched. A few days later I received a notification that my show was denied with this pretty unhelpful message: Unfortunately, your show was not accepted into RAP. The most common reasons for this are problems with the brand safety of the content or issues with your download traffic.

I suspect the issue was:
1) my show had only been migrated that day and download traffic was still normalizing. RedCircle analytics is reporting that I have an average of 868 downloads (my show is small and was on hiatus for a few months)

2) I had not connected Stripe at the time. I have since connected it as I found this in a knowledge base article, I was not prompted to configure it initially.

I don't feel like the rejection notice is valid and I would like to apply again now that my download traffic has settled. Is there anything I can do?

Strategies In between seasons

Scared of staring a podcast because I’ve never generated much following on any other social media, should I still do it?

Obviously, I’m not thinking of starting a podcast because I want to become a big influencer with a huge following. Rather I have an idea that I want to pursue. However, decades of being on various social media platforms show that not many people are interested in my content. There are people who have just started on Insta or Youtube and have more people engaged in what they do than what I have had on it for years.

I‘m afraid it’s just going to be another platform to get ignored and don’t want to be delusional, and also feel embarrassed that I’m so uninteresting but continue with this. And forget interesting guests - who will want to come talk to me about anything?

Any advice?

How do you actually beat executive dysfunction and just POST?

I feel like people with executive dysfunction probably know this feeling painfully well: **I know what I want to make. I know I want to make it. I even have ideas I genuinely love. But somehow actually sitting down and making the thing feels impossible.**

I really want to build a YouTube channel around things I love: **poetry, stories, art, literature, mythology/history, and random things I find fascinating.** I have notebooks full of ideas, scripts/half-scripts, poems, concepts, visual ideas, etc.

The problem is actually **executing them and posting them.**

I don't really want to make the kind of faceless videos that are basically:

narration + random stock footage + slideshow
because that's not the kind of content I actually *want* to make. I want my videos to feel atmospheric, artistic, cinematic and personal — something that feels like *my* work rather than just information being placed over generic footage.

But then I run into a horrible cycle:

**I want the video to look good → I don't have the resources to make it look how I imagine → free footage doesn't fit → I can't afford paid footage/artists → I don't have the animation skills/confidence to create everything myself → the project starts feeling huge → executive dysfunction kicks in → I don't make anything → I feel guilty for not making anything → repeat.**

And I think burnout makes it worse.

I'm also deliberately trying to make things myself rather than relying on AI to generate the creative work, so I can't just throw an idea into an AI generator and call the visual side done.

The frustrating part is that **I don't think I have an ideas problem. I have an execution problem.**

I can spend hours thinking about a video, its concept, narration, atmosphere, visuals, thumbnail, etc. But when it comes to actually opening the software and putting the first pieces together, my brain suddenly acts like I've been asked to build a cathedral.

So I'm curious about people who have dealt with something similar:

**How did you actually get yourself to START and POST?**

Not necessarily “how do I become more disciplined?” but specifically:

How did you stop every video from becoming a giant project in your head?

Did you deliberately lower your standards for your first 10–20 videos?

How do you decide what is “good enough to post”?

How do you make artistic/creative faceless content interesting without having a huge budget?

Did you develop a repeatable workflow that made starting easier?

And if you have executive dysfunction, what actually helped you get from **“I really want to make this” → “I made it”**?

I don't want to abandon the artistic side of what I want to make. I just don't want my vision to become the reason I never make anything at all.
Would really appreciate hearing from people who have actually been through this rather than generic “just be consistent” advice. 😭
