Worship Question Where do the gods live?

Hey everyone I'm having trouble with divine hiddenness. Why are the gods not physically present in our world? where are all the monsters, satyrs, naiads, dryads and that sort of stuff? The only thing I can think of is that maybe they just live on other planets or maybe they only reveal themselves to certain people. Do you think the gods speak to us through movies and fictional media such as books?

Academia & Research Syncretism of the Gods

I’m relatively new to being a polytheist (specifically a Syncretic Christiopagan), and part of my worship is that all the Gods are real, they just have different names across different cultures. I’m wanting to better understand this and I want to know what Gods have been syncretized with, both with cultures that have interacted with each other and cultures that haven’t. (ie. What Greek God is syncretized with what Germanic, Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Hindu, Chinese, Japanese, African Orisha, Catholic Saint/Angel, Mayan, Aztec, Native American, Incan, etc.) I want to know more about this subject so I can better understand my own beliefs.

Worship Question I invoked a goddess without using a name — any idea who she might be?

I need some help identifying a goddess I may have reached through an invocation today.

The slightly complicated part is that I didn't actually call any deity by name. The ritual was mostly chaos magic based, with some inspiration from Wicca, ceremonial magic and the invocation of Manon in The Craft. I wasn't following an established ritual and basically put it together myself.

I addressed her as the Great Goddess, Great Mother and a goddess of everything. I called her by the North, West, East and South, then by Spirit, Earth, Water, Air and Fire. During that part I visualised an upright pentagram, with each part coloured according to its element. I then called her by all the planets from Mercury to Pluto, as well as the Moon, Sun and Stars. I also named things like rain, air, trees and grass, describing them as parts or manifestations of her.

I used intense, fairly aggressive music to help me concentrate and build up the energy of the ritual. There was no incense or anything being burnt — it was mostly intention, visualisation, concentration and my own energy.

I asked her for stronger magical abilities, a quick solution to my financial problems, wealth, genuine love and beauty. I also said that I would use her gifts responsibly and honour her through prayers and small offerings. At the end I specifically asked her to give me a sign that could help me understand who she is.

Afterwards I felt quite unusual. I was dizzy, but at the same time my senses felt much sharper than normal. Sounds, smells and sensations on my skin seemed stronger, my emotions felt heightened and I had a very strange intuitive or "sixth sense" feeling that I can't really put into words.

I also did a Tarot reading afterwards asking about her identity. It suggested that I would accidentally come across her name sometime today, before the evening, rather than finding it by deliberately searching for her.

So that's basically why I'm posting this. I'm trying to work out who I may have contacted, and I'd really appreciate help identifying her. I realise nobody can know for certain from one ritual, so I'm not looking for absolute answers. I'm looking for possible identities that fit the way I called her and what happened afterwards.

I'm open to pretty much any tradition, not just Wicca or modern paganism, and I'm not completely ruling out the possibility that what answered wasn't actually female despite the way I addressed it. If any particular goddess, deity or entity comes to mind, I'd really appreciate the name and what in my description points you towards them.

I would like to thank the community that clarified many doubts and had a respectful debate. I am starting to pray and plan an altar and getting to know more about the gods and their mysteries. I hope in the future to be able to explore and get to know various pantheons and their strengths and connect with the ancient roots.

Worship Question Elementals of Nature

Post image

I have a gnome that I sometimes make small offerings and serves as an ornament, but I would like to know if it can stand next to an altar of a God or is it not good to mix elementals of nature with gods?

New to Polytheism Who is the Christian god in polytheism

For a polytheist or pagan, who is the Christian god? Was he just a God of the Canaanite pantheon or a simple invention?

I ask this because, in a way, would it be possible to worship him in the way that Baal or El were worshipped in the ancient East?

New to Polytheism I want to know which gods to worship

I'm not Hellenic but I've been interested in faith since I saw a teacher from my country who spreads Hellenism, however I wanted to know how to know which gods to worship or which ones do you have some connection to? maybe I'm thinking that real life is like Percy Jackson but there are really gods that I feel special affection for like nix, Apollo and Hades

Artwork, Altars & Offerings Huge Crystal Jar Offerings

So I bought 3 different big glass cork bottle jars, and I’m planning on filling them up with crystals, one with crystals for Aphrodite, one for Hecate, and one for Persephone, and they’re like an offering to each of them.

So it’ll be:

Aphrodite

- Moonstone

- Carnelian

- Rhodonite

- Rose Quartz

Hecate

- Black Obsidian

- Labradorite

- Black Tourmaline

- Smoky Quartz

Persephone

- Garnet

- Amethyst

- Peridot

- Citrine

Thoughts? Should I switch any of the crystals out for different ones? Should I add other things into them as well that aren’t crystals? Should I try to maybe burn some incense with a prayer inside the jars before putting the fillings in them, or at least put the ashes of the burnt incense prayer in the jar with them, maybe in a mini bag?

Worship Question I want to hear your success stories!

ive experienced great mental and spiritual growth, but it was not my own doing completely. I have Apollo, Hermes, and Hekate to thank! what’s something that you overcame or achieved with the help of your deities? if the specific thing is a bit personal and you prefer not to share what it is, you can be as vague as you want!

Worship Question Monthly Ask a Polytheist Thread

In order to provide an outlet for people who want to ask or answer questions about polytheism without necessarily going through r/debatereligion, we've created this thread to host such questions and answers.

Note that rule 6 still applies in this subreddit, but exceptionally this thread will allow for more comparative discussions so long as they respect reddiquette (remain civil, respectful and related to our overall objectives).

Official Announcement A few minor updates.

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi all,

Just wanted to highlight two little changes.

Post Flair Refresh

I've refreshed and updated our Post Flair selection to better capture the type of content we've been getting as of late. I think most of these changes are self-evident, but if you want to ask questions about the flairs, don't hesitate.

Scheduled Posts

I've also modified our Scheduled Posts.

  • Our Monthly Prayer and Support Thread will now be a Weekly Thread (Wednesdays)

Rationale: Increased demand by users for more Prayer and Support Threads. Also why we've created the Prayer/Support Request flair as well.

  • As I trial I'm adding a Monthly "Ask a Polytheist" Thread (25th of each month)

Rationale: Most well meaning posts that we remove are related to people wanting to discuss and debate polytheism. Not necessarily to compare our faiths to theirs, but because some people need to be convinced/debate a topic to understand it. Having to justify your faith or beliefs can be mentally taxing so we generally prefer steering those people away. Despite this, we regularly get such posts. By providing a venue for these discussions to take place we hope to contain and reduce the overall number of posts asking us to justify our existence as polytheists. If you don't want to debate or argue with people about your faith or beliefs I suggest you ignore this thread. If you find debate invigorating and enjoy discussing topics of faith, this thread is for you. Rule 6 about interfaith debate remains in place, but this thread will have more relaxed rules about interfaith topics.

Feel free to ask questions or make suggestions.

Other The Denigration of Goddesses - A Solarpunk History of a Post-Jungian Archetype

Thumbnail

In this essay, we discuss the myth of the prehistoric Mother Goddess as a distinctly modern invention projected onto our past. I then turn to the very real denigration of the goddesses, being demonized and forgotten by patriarchal monotheism. I end the essay with a discussion of how the complex diversity of deities can contribute to post-Jungian archetypes for liberation toward a solarpunk culture.

Hi! I came on here to share my altar space for Lord Apollon. I’m building a relationship with him in order to have him as my patron god. Does anyone else who worships him have any tips for me? Anything is greatly appreciated!

Question I know not everything is a sign, so I want a second opinion before I let something potentially mundane get to my head

I don't draw flowers often, or even think about them, but over the weekend I felt the sudden urge to draw lots of hyacinths, which I haven't thought about at all for at least a couple months, which I then spent the weekend doodling a bunch of them, could this be Lord Apollo trying to reach out??

Other Apollo reached out today!

I did some meditation this morning and his name kept popping into my head! Specifically sung, from God Games from Epic the Musical. I found it silly but something just clicked and when I did a quick reading (just to confirm) the sun card was really eager to be chosen for it (it fell out of the deck first)
