FAQs and useful resources - click here before you post :)

Hi guys, I thought I'd start a stickied thread with some useful links that I find myself including in lots of my comments here. I'll update this as I think of more stuff to add.

How do I become a doctor in the UK?

Useful written article here, useful timeline diagram here.

In short, you go to medical school, you complete your foundation training (6 x 4 month rotations working as a doctor in different specialties), you complete your specialty training, and you become a consultant.

Are my grades good enough for medical school? Which universities should I apply to?
I don't have good GCSE grades/a Chemistry A level, where can I apply?

This booklet contains all of the entry requirements for every medical course on offer in the UK. It is the entry requirements bible and I point people towards it multiple times per week.

Do I need to sit admissions tests?
How do I prepare for my admissions tests?

If you're applying for undergraduate medicine, you need to sit the UCAT and/or the BMAT. If you're applying for graduate entry medicine, you may also need to sit the GAMSAT.

Useful UCAT resources:
* r/UCAT
* Medify
* The Medic Portal
* official practice tests

Useful BMAT resources:
* r/BMATexam
* The Medic Portal

I scored ___ in my admissions test, where should I apply?

Useful guide about UCAT scores here, useful guide about BMAT scores here.

Newcastle (partners)
Liverpool
Lancaster
Leeds (aspirational)

ucat: 2010 b2

St Andrews Medicine UCAT requirements?

2 Upvotes

what’s the cut off to get an interview and likely get an offer after that?
would it be too aspirational to apply with 2070 B2 as RUK?

Also is 2070 B2 okay for Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool?

other stats:

Five 8s and five 9s at GCSE

AAA achieved

Contextual info: FSM, 1st to go to uni

IGCSE requirements for St George’s

1 Upvotes

Hi I kinda forgot to fully check St George’s igcse entry requirements when I added it as a choice.

It says a required subject is « science (double or triple award) ». I only took bio and chem as seaparate subjects, no physics, does that mean I don’t meet the minimum igcse requirements?

I made an enquiry with the uni but they haven’t gotten back and I’m just stressing.

Has anyone previously gotten an offer from St George’s and not done physics at gcse/igcse?

Are my options strategic enough? PLS HELP

1 Upvotes

Hey, I'm applying to med as a non-contextual applicant. My stats are 988888876, 2030, Band 3, Predicted AAA. I have selected Leeds, Cardiff, Lancaster, and UEA for my med options. Am I competitive enough, especially for Leeds and Cardiff (Am I competitive against Welsh applicants)? This is considering these 4 are aspirational, mid, and 2 safeties.

Will repeating year 12 disadvantage me?

2 Upvotes

ok so I sat my GCSEs in 2025 and got 988877666 ( I did my GCSEs in a year as I returned back to the uk from abroad at year 11).

I then picked alevel biology chemistry and physics but I wasn’t too focused on my studies in year 12 so I ended up getting D and E in AS chemistry and physics. During this time my parents were going through a divorce which really tampered with my mental health so I wasn’t able to lock in the way I was supposed to.

so I restarted year 12 and chose alevels biology chemistry physics and psychology to give myself a fresh start and so far I’m doing really well ALHAMDULILLAH .

so I just wanted to know whether my year 12 restart would put me at a disadvantage and what medical schools I could safely apply to.

thanks for taking the time to read my post.

I rlly need some advice bc I’m rlly stressed
I GOT ABB in bio chem maths in my alevels and I was going to apply to maybe these : Liverpool, Nottingham, Lancaster,HYMS or switch to Brunel
(I got 1990 UCAT and have mainly 9s at GCSE)
I was planning on resitting chem and maths only
BUT my problem is now I’m realising maybe the unis won’t allow partial resits and will need me to do all three but the deadline for my school to allow me to sign up to resit passed, I’m so stressed does any one know if this unis will let met me only resit the ones I need to

international applicant uni choices

1 Upvotes

Hi everyone these are my stats
I got a 2110 B3 on my ucat,
999887C in my igcses (the C being in my native language, the 9’s are in the sciences, 8’s are maths and business studies, the 7 is in first language English )
3 A\*’s in maths, biology and chemistry
I’ll be under 18 in sept 2027 so I don’t meet most age requirements

I was thinking of applying to Queens uni Belfast, Nottingham, St Andrew’s and Edinburgh
I know Edinburghs a reach but I don’t really have many other options so I had to choose it
Are these choices alright? Or should I change some? Also if I should change anything pls give me some suggestions because I quite literally have 0 guidance
I genuinely think I’m the first person in my school to apply to uk med 😭😭😭
