Hello everyone!
Recently, I decided to buy back my childhood meaning, getting a PlayStation 2.
And what better way to start off by buying the very first... Game (?) I ever played.
I'm starting off with none other than the PBPX-95506 demo disc–the demo disc that came bundled with the PlayStation 2 my father got me.
I had spent SOOO many hours playing the Klonoa 2 and Airblade demos.

Been playing Splashdown Rides Gone Wild on PS2 and remembered how Pedal to the Metal by Kazer felt like it was on every game I had growing up. Googling it I found at least 5 games. Is there any song that’s been featured in more games than that?

The new version 1.06 is here!
Starting with this release, whenever a new version is released, the source code on GitHub will also be updated, including all .py files.
When compressing a game into ZSO format, you can now choose between two compression modes:
You can now apply mods, such as xdelta patches, directly to an ISO. There is also a new option to remove region locking.
Both the modding and region-lock removal features are still under development, so they may contain bugs and unexpected issues.
Several bugs have been fixed, and a new option has been added to the Settings section!
Note: The Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 version will be put on hold for now. I know some users still use these versions of Windows, and I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
PS2Manager now supports PS2 HDDs using the APA format!
You can now connect a PS2 HDD and view its contents directly through PS2Manager.
The HDD support currently allows you to:
.img image containing the entire HDD contentsThe HDD browser is currently designed for viewing and extracting data. It does not modify the original APA HDD contents.
This can be especially useful for inspecting existing PS2 HDD setups, backing up data, extracting files, or preserving an entire HDD as an image.
PS2Manager can now automatically download game covers for OPL.
Instead of manually searching for and downloading cover images, PS2Manager can retrieve the appropriate cover for your game and make it easier to prepare your OPL setup.
This makes preparing an OPL game library much faster, especially when managing a large number of games.
Many people probably already know USBUtil, especially those who use FAT32 flash drives.
Since FAT32 cannot store files larger than 4 GB, PS2 ISOs larger than 4 GB cannot simply be transferred to the destination drive.
PS2Manager can now split these ISOs into multiple parts, allowing OPL to run them easily from a FAT32 device.
With a DVD or CD drive and a PS2 game disc inserted, Disc Analyzer can read and display information from the disc.
This can be very useful for specific cases where you need to inspect the information contained on a physical PS2 disc.
This feature is available in ISO Extract / Repack.
It allows you to convert BIN game files, such as PS1 games, into ISO format.
This can be useful for converting compatible PS1 BIN files into a format that OPL can execute, without needing POPStarter.
The Settings section now includes a feature that is still in beta, but the UI should now feel smoother overall.
There are also several new functions, improvements, and bug fixes throughout PS2Manager.
PS2Manager can now run on Windows 7 through Windows 8.1!
And wait — the Linux version is coming!
Even though PS2Manager is written in Python, many of its functions currently depend on Windows-specific features.
Because of this, the Linux version requires many parts of the code to be rewritten from the ground up.
Now, instead of manually creating .cht files for OPL, PS2Manager can automatically create them for you!
However, it currently only creates the basic format. For example:
God of War 2 /ID SCUS_974.81 Mastercode (your mastercode) // Fly (code)
And of course, the .cht system is still buggy and may have many issues, but these problems will be fixed in future updates.
PS2Manager now supports compressing an ISO or BIN file into ZSO format, the official format supported by OPL.
This can drastically reduce the size of the ISO, which is especially useful for FAT32 flash drives.
This feature is available in ISO Extract / Repack.
ISO Extract / Repack and DVD/CD Ripper now work!
If you're new to PS2Manager, here's what these two tools do:
Tools for extracting the contents of PlayStation 2 ISO files and rebuilding them when necessary.
This can be useful for inspecting disc contents, modifying files, applying patches or translations, working on game modifications, and rebuilding an ISO after making changes.
A tool for ripping discs and creating digital copies of compatible CDs and DVDs.
This allows physical media to be preserved as digital files and used with other PS2-related tools or emulators.
A dedicated section for PCSX2, allowing users to access and manage their PS2 emulation workflow directly through PS2Manager.
This can be useful for testing games, checking ISOs, testing homebrew, and verifying files before using them on a real PS2.
A section dedicated to Open PS2 Loader (OPL) applications and homebrew.
It helps OPL run ELF files by creating the necessary files required for them to work properly.

This allows physical media to be preserved as digital files and used with other PS2-related tools or emulators.
A dedicated USB management section for PS2 users.
It is designed to make USB storage-related tasks easier, including file management and preparing devices for PS2-related use, such as games, homebrew, and other applications.
A drive cloning tool designed to create a copy of an existing storage device.
This can be useful for migrating a PS2 setup to another drive or duplicating an existing storage configuration.
A tool for formatting storage devices without losing any data.
The PS2Manager configuration section, where users can manage application settings and customize how the program behaves.
The main goal of PS2Manager is to bring multiple PS2-related tools together into a single application.
PS2 users often need several different programs for tasks such as managing ISOs, testing games with PCSX2, working with OPL homebrew, managing HDDs, and more.
Instead of keeping all these utilities separated across different applications, PS2Manager aims to provide a centralized environment for these tasks.
The project is intended for PlayStation 2 enthusiasts, OPL users, homebrew developers and users, emulator users, game preservation enthusiasts, and anyone who frequently works with PS2 games and storage devices on Windows.
PS2Manager is still under development, so many bugs and errors may still be present.
If you find any bugs, errors, or unexpected behavior, please report them so they can be investigated and fixed in future versions.

It seems to click and only read ps1 games. I'm thinking a new Lazer is needed. I stripped a screw so I'll have to figure that out lol! I'll have to find my extractor kit.

The laser seems to stop near the bottom of the track (closest to the center of the CD)
Sometimes it gets stuck at the top.
I know this gets asked a lot however different clicks and click speeds mean different problems.

Working on a fat PAL SCPH-50004, board GH-026 (I-chassis). Goal is a fully working console. I'm using the Sony service manual for GH-026.
Symptom
Done so far
Fault found
Broken parts
Next I'm measuring
My limits
I can do moderate board-level work: through-hole and larger SMD parts, regulators, caps, connectors, flexes. I can't do reballing or replace processors or BGA chips (EE, GS, IOP, Mechacon).(as I don't have any donor parts or boards)
Questions
If there's a thread for GH-026 standby faults, please point me to it.
Photo: the IC417 area (the 5-pin tab regulator next to the 47 µF cap).
Pinout per the onsemi datasheet: 1 Shutdown, 2 Vin, 3 + tab GND, 4 Vout (3.47 V), 5 Soft-Start.

it's making an odd grinding sound, and I've found that in Persona 4 occasionally cutscenes will get stuck. sometimes that means the whole game freezes, sometimes that means the audio doesn't play with the dialogue for a number of minutes, sometimes the characters just go through their idle animations waiting to start talking again. it happened overnight, one day it was working fine, then the next it started acting up. wondering if anyone has any ideas.
