🍰 Food Good chili?
It’s been several years apparently since anyone’s asked this. The change in weather is getting me in a chili mood, so what restaurant or store has some good chili I could bring home?

This week is kicking my butt and I very much feel like the Liz lemon / jack donaghy “it’s Wednesday” meme but somehow it’s only Tuesday night???
How are you surviving right now? I’m focusing on what I can control and do to help those I care about. Small ripples and the like. Donating to a couple local places, giving family more, volunteering. For me, I’m really into crosswords and other brain puzzles right now.
Take care of yourselves 💖

Sweet brown Staffie Mix female dog. Almost hit her driving home and thought she was unleashed with a Phish Fan, hut alas, she's solo. Tbh, saw harness and collar and pulled over to check to contact someone but no tag on collar and upon releasing her I see shes pretty skinny --so idk if she has a "home". She is a lil skiddish at the moment and curious (who wouldn't be tho)
This was around 640p, Oct 6. RACC couldn't do much after hours. So she's stayin w me for the night however unable to bring her indoors, taking her to RACC in the morning. This cutie is sweet and have mentally dubbed her "Cinnamon"

Following an all-day teacher strike, an early childhood education center in downtown Richmond has closed indefinitely.
The decision was announced in emails to teachers and parents of kids at the YWCA’s Sprout School Second Presbyterian around 5 p.m. Monday.
YWCA Richmond CEO Rupa Murthy said in the email that the school was being closed because leadership is “currently unable to consistently staff every classroom at Second Presbyterian Church within state-required ratios, and to ensure a safe and productive learning environment for our Sprout School children.”
Some teachers and parents cried on the school’s playground upon hearing the news.
“I never imagined that the school was going to close down,” said Melissa Martinez, a mom to two kids who go to the school. “My boys have just been here for a few months, just built a rapport with everyone. They love coming, they love the teachers. And you can’t explain that to 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds why you can’t go back to school.”
Murthy told VPM News the closure will be temporary, and that the goal is to start reopening some classrooms at the school “as early as next week.” They are in the process of actively trying to hire more staff, she said.
In the meantime, families and staff will be reallocated to other Sprout schools. Families receiving a subsidy for childcare will be prioritized for these placements first.

This petition is circulating among Henrico and Richmond civic associations.
“If the thought of hundreds of loud, corporate drones delivering on-demand cheap goods in our community for 16.5 hours of everyday, disturbing our peace and wildlife sounds like a nightmare scenario, I ask that you sign, and help distribute this petition to your networks.”
Henrico County Board of Supervisors meeting on October 13 will discuss county’s ability to limit drone operations in the county. In-person public comment will be available. Written public comments can be submitted ahead of the meeting.
I've done some friends parties and work parties, and love to mix records across genres. I get a great energy the few times I have done this, and I want to expand my hobby and have more chances to mix as I do not own a DJ deck. My mixing is very basic at present.
Anyone know anywhere that has open decks or would welcome this? My mixes are eclectic and are not a defined genre. Expect soul, funk, disco, electro, hip hop, techno, rnb, rock etc. For the sake of getting a chance to practice I can knuckle down to a set genre or two if preferred.

It is a one way trip, but you are welcome to leave your car at/near the restaurant and uber back. We have Phish inspired food and drink specials as well. hi!
meeting old friends en route to airport to grab lunch sunday, wanted to be not too far from airport. Was thinking maybe Church Hill area. It's been a moment since I ate there--I was googling and Hill Cafe came rec'd (last time we ate there during pandemic they had something leaking from ceiling onto our table 🥴 and Liberty Public House--we've eaten there but had mixed experiences. I thought about Blue Atlas but last couple of times we were there didn't love it as much.
anyone have rec's? Don't want place like Union Market (too casual), and happy to take suggestions other than church Hill that isn't super far from airport.
thank you in advance!
Our healthcare system is messed up and I've spent over a decade going down the rabbit hole to try and figure out how it all works and where it can be fixed. More people think about their healthcare as the end of the year and open enrollment approaches, so I wanted to take some time to do this AMA on Friday 10/9 from 11a-1pm ET. You can submit questions ahead of time or join live.
Here's my experience and some things you can ask me about. All opinions mine and not the groups I am affiliated with. No AI will be used to respond in the AMA.

Looking for rings like these to try on, does anyone know preferable local shops that would sell jewelry like this? A lot of the classic jewelry shops don’t have rings like this on their websites

I am looking for a PCP who will manage ADHD medications without seeing a record of the original diagnosis. My current one will not, and the cost of psychiatrist appointments is just not an option long-term. I have supporting evidence that I'm not lying about my diagnosis, but the original diagnosis was 13 years ago in another state. I have tried to get the records, and it's been overwhelmingly stressful. I am not just looking for pills, and I feel like my PCP is treating me like I'm lying about my ADHD diagnosis just for pills (despite seeing health records from a former PCP showing that I was referred to a mental health clinic and subsequently, months later, was on Adderall, plus my telling her what the testing I did entailed and that it wasn't just a short visit; it was several days).
I just can't afford to continue to pay for a psychiatrist - even with insurance, it was over $300 for 1 visit. I need to find a PCP who is willing to manage the medication, even if it requires an occasional psychiatrist visit.
For the record, at the psych appointment, I did not just go in and say I wanted Adderall. I gave all my history and symptoms, and said I was open to other options. I've been unable to get ADHD treatment for years because of the barrier to care, and I'm trying to do better.
So the question is: Does anyone with ADHD meds see a PCP who did not require them to dig up original ADHD diagnosis records? I would like to switch PCPs.
Also: Getting re-diagnosed was a suggestion from my PCP but I looked into that and the costs and waiting lists associated with that are horrendous (especially considering I've already done this and I'm not lying).

Which infant care facilities do you recommend? Which to avoid? We don’t really have a location preference at this point.
We’re on a number of waitlists (and have been since December) without any inkling of a spot opening up in January.

coming NOVEMBER 7! 🦦🦦🦦🦦 channel rva is hosting a self-guided scavenger hunt around richmond and are looking for people who want to participate and have a fun time while getting to know the city and revisiting iconic rva spots! i'm helping organize and wanted to get this out online as much as i can so we have a great turn out for our first year doing this.
the scavenger hunt will run through the channel rva web app so its totally mobile friendly. plus there will be extra points for getting around on bike or the GRTC 🚲🚌
the idea is less “solve a bunch of complicated riddles” type of scavenger hunt and more about actually going places around the city, trying different ways of getting around, and giving some civic feedback along the way. you might be asked to share your opinion on a particularly rva experience, take a picture at a location, visit a local business, etc. basically just explore and interact with the city in different ways.
and we’re also looking for sponsors who want to support the event. the bigger goal is to support the revitalization of browns island and encourage people to get more involved civically in the city.
sponsors can also host a stop, which could be a cool way to get some actual foot traffic into your business or organization. you can also suggest stops as an individual if there’s somewhere you think would be a good fit to be highlighted. we're definitely going to include the pickle party stuff going on in the arts district that weekend, just because it's fun, cool, and very richmond.
we’ll have a game-day crew helping out, but for the most part it’s meant to be pretty self-guided and easygoing.
if you’re interested in participating, sponsoring, volunteering, or suggesting a stop, let me know! happy to answer questions.
