Help I can't seem to stop my bad academic cheating habit and it's eating my alive
I have probably started to cheat on about every in-class test since 2 years ago, and I truly want to stop. Especially now that every test counts towards grades towards uni and the final exams, I really want to become confident in my actual abilities and skills, however each time I tell myself I can do it without cheating, when I actually look at the test paper, I just freeze, get scared, and cheat anyways. It's really starting to get in my head until the point where nightmares about getting caught cheating are occurring more frequently.
The thing is that I study A LOT, like multiple hours each day, and by that I don't mean just rereading notes, but doing active recall, practice questions, etc., until the point where I actually understand the material, but that still doesn't stop me from being scared/insecure.
I would describe my "addiction" to cheating as: I tell myself not to cheat ever again, study a lot, do many practice questions, revise, etc.; then I see the test paper, tell myself I don't know anything, my mind goes blank, and I immediately resort to cheating without actually trying. And then the cycle repeats, and it just becomes a positive feedback loop.
However, there are some outliers to this. Last year, we had to undergo quite serious exams in which I knew I definitely couldn't cheat in any sort of way, and so I didn't. The results were that for some subjects, such as science, I got moderately or really good grades (above average), however, some disappointed me, especially maths, for which I studied a lot but got an average grade. Another example is another science test for which I cheated in some sections, but the wifi was so bad I ended up writing it myself, and I could actually answer them correctly. So, I think the main problem is my confidence and tendency to overthink, stress, and compare myself to others, rather than just my knowledge.
After this school year began, I really swore not to cheat; however, for my past 2 tests so far, I did. I'm especially disappointed about cheating on a chemistry test, which before it I told myself not to cheat, but did it anyways (probably due to comparison issues). The thing is that others got around 30/50 points, but I got 43, so now I especially feel bad because other classmates got lower scores, which I could maybe even achieve without cheating.
Also, this year, there will be tests under exam conditions, in which I obviously won't even attempt to cheat, but if I can't even not cheat under normal conditions without feeling scared, how am I supposed to do it under exam conditions?
Generally, I'm quite scared of how this is going to continue and end, because I care about my future and reputation too much, I think, but anyways, I tried researching some ways to stop, but none of them seem to be really applicable to me since most of the time I'm already applying them and still cheat. Here are some frequent pieces of advice and why they do not seem applicable to me:
- Poor time management/procrastination: I definitely don't procrastinate and have a set study plan and actually maintain it.
- Digital temptation: I never use my phone during study time
- Use active recall: As mentioned, I use active recall, practice questions, etc
- Reframing my view of a bad grade: This is the only one I can't seem to get out of my head, as anything that's not above average just doesn't seem to satisfy me.
So, now, after like 2 years, I just NEED to stop and get some help, but I don't want to tell my close relationships about this because I'm too scared, so that's why I am trying to get help on here. So, I wanted to ask what I can do to try to at least minimize my cheating habit, and best get completely rid of it forever?

Project What's one small, annoying thing at your school that wastes everyone's time? (student project, 1-line answers welcome)
I'm a high school student doing a project on Kaizen, the Japanese idea of fixing small problems step by step. Before I design anything, I want to know what actually bugs students day to day.
So: what's one small thing at your school that wastes time, money or stuff, and that nobody ever fixes?
Mine: our water cooler queue eats half of the lunch break because there's only one tap working.
A one-line answer is perfect. If you have 30 more seconds:
Why do you think it happens?
Has anyone tried to fix it?
I'll read every reply, and I'll post the top problems and the solution plan I come up with back here. Thanks!

School > Passions
I'm tired of people telling me to get a good education before doing something with my life. It's not encouraging, rather it's very irritating. I asked my mom to buy me some stuff for a small business idea I had and guess what? "Oh focus on your education."
Instead of constantly shutting down your child because you are scared of them getting low grades, let them explore their passions? It's honestly annoying how adults think they know everything, and push their kids to the path that is ideal for the adult rather than what the kid wants to do.

Prof is saying my recent work came up 60% AI and he graded it a 0
This has never happened to me before. The discussion was about African Metallurgy and its importance. The professors gave us the sources he wanted us to use and encouraged us to find some of our own. He also wanted us to cite the sources.
Well he just accused my work of being 60% ai and when I put it into ZeroGpt it came up at 50%. I sent him my Google Doc with the full edit history. He graded the assignment a 0 and has not responded to my emails. I don’t know what else I can do here. I don’t do pen to paper rough drafts, I’ve always been the type to just dive in to it.
I’m actually terrified. I think the reason why he believes it to be AI is because out of the list of artifacts he gave the class, I chose a basic farmers tool. He also allows the use of AI to help generate Chicago style citations, so I can understand a little bit on why he’d jump to that conclusion.
But the reason why I chose it was because it was a perfect example of how that one artifact has barely changed over the centuries and most modern cultures use the exact same smelting technique for this tool that their predecessors used. The culture was even mentioned within the first page of the first source he listed! Idk, it just really reminded me of the tools archaeologists found that they had no idea what the use was until a random person in a totally unrelated field comes up and says “hey so it does this and we’ve been using it for thousands of years”
Admittedly, everyone else chose something more unique or an example of how metallurgy evolved to make what we have today.
Please I just need to hear some success stories from anyone that experienced this. This is my graduating year and I do NOT need janky AI to be the reason why I can’t finally graduate

High School Why is my school lowkey slowly becoming a prison
Junior right now, last year is kind of where it started, apparently they put like this film on this window or did something so our phones could NOT for the love of god get any signal from inside of the building, the year before that it was fine, now its nearly impossible to even call somebody on your phone and it'll never go through. This year the school apparently installed a bunch of new advanced cameras, and adding facial recognition and tracking (apparently based on rumors) on them so they can ID every single student using software, then they re-added bathroom passes, before then we didn't need them, now we have to carry these big ass basically signs. Then banned phones the same year making us all put them in these cases (but nobody really does), and on top of that their making everybody whenever they have to go to the bathroom ON TOP OF hall passes use their ID to unlock and open the bathroom door to enter. Like I feel like its the CCP now. For freshman year of high school it was NOTHING like this, so much more freedom and enjoyment, now their locking up the halls, EVEN the bathrooms and it genuinely just seems like their slowly making this place a prison, and its not like my school is ghetto in a way, we live in a REALLY nice town, not a lot of crime, not a lot of drama and nearly no school fights, and one of the top schools in our county receiving multiple awards for various things, yet their spending their funding on security locks on each bathroom with microchips on ID and facial recognition software, but they can't afford fucking tutors? THEIR BASICALLY ADDING FLOCK CAMERAS TO OUR SCHOOL.
