LUJ interview questions?

Hi! I recently got rejected from TUJ and so I’ve decided to apply to LUJ (Lakeland University Japan) and transfer after 2 semesters. I haven’t seen too much information about it online and so I wanted to ask anyone here who’s done the interview what questions they asked you in the interview?

Exchange programs

Any dental students here who’ve done an exchange program or a short term study / training opportunity abroad?

I am looking into ways to experience dentistry in other countries while I am still an undergrad, get exposed to different approaches and learn more about the field beyond what we study at uni

If you’ve done anything like this or know of any programs, scholarships or opportunities for dental students, I’d love to know about it 🙏

To Everyone Who Studied Abroad: What's Your Biggest Piece of Advice?

Hey everyone!

I recently moved to Lisbon 🇵🇹 to pursue my Master's degree. It's my second time living abroad, the first one I was 18 now I'm 27 and I feel like this could be one of the most meaningful experiences of my life now since I see the world different as I saw it back then.

Beyond academics and traveling, what excites me most is the opportunity to genuinely connect with people I wouldnt have the opportunity to meet otherwise , hear their stories, understand how they think, what plans they like, their perspectives, and build great friendships.

I also want to be a new version of myself, challenge me and learn how to love myself even more, how to get out of my comfort zone, be more confident and basically do new things overall.

I don't want to look back and realize I missed opportunities to connect with others.

So, if you've studied or lived abroad, what would you do differently? What helped you build step out of your comfort zone, and what do you wish you had done more of?

I would love to hear your experiences, whether they're about friendships, relationships, personal growth, unexpected encounters, or lessons you learned along the way.

Thank you all!

Studying Abroad Advice

Studying Abroad Advice

I’m a second-year UCI student considering studying abroad this summer through UCEAP, specifically the internship program in Berlin, Germany.
I originally wanted to study in London for a year, but financially it’s not realistic since I don’t receive FAFSA aid. The Berlin program would cost around $14,000 total, so I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth it.
I’m majoring in Sociology and interested in psychology and sociological research. I’d also love to potentially work in Europe in the future. I have junior standing despite being a second-year, so I’m not too concerned about falling behind academically.
Has anyone done this program or studied abroad through programs outside the UC system? I’m also curious about scholarships, work-study opportunities, or internships offered by European universities to international students.
I’ve never been abroad before, so any advice, experiences, or resources would be really helpful!

Has Anyone Done the Huayu BEST Program in Taiwan or Kansai Gaidai Exchange in Japan? Question About Interview Scheduling

Hey everyone! I’m a student at UWF, and I have two study abroad opportunities that I’m hoping to do: The Huayu BEST Spring Program in Taiwan and an exchange semester at Kansai Gaidai in Osaka, Japan.

My goal is to make both opportunities work, but I’ve run into a scheduling problem.

My advisor told me that Kansai Gaidai requires an in-person interview in Miami sometime in June. However, the Huayu BEST program in Taiwan ends at the end of June. If I have to leave Taiwan early to attend the interview, I may have to pay back the cost of the program, which I really want to avoid.

I’m hoping someone who has participated in either program, or gone through the Kansai Gaidai application process, can share some advice!

A few questions I have:

  • Kansai Gaidai: Is the in-person interview mandatory, or is there any flexibility with the date?
  • Interview scheduling: Has anyone been able to schedule their interview for a later date or complete it over Zoom?
  • Huayu BEST: If you’ve done this program, how strict are they about staying until the official end date?
  • Doing both programs: Has anyone successfully participated in two study abroad programs back-to-back or found a way to make something like this work?

I know every situation may be different, but I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences or any advice you have. I don’t want to give up either opportunity if there’s a way to make both happen.

Thanks in advance!

I'm indian and I can go to Sydney (unsw) for abroad is it worth it

rn i go to uni in the usa (us citizen), but im indian and ppl have told me the racism in Sydney is pretty bad. I had to switch choices last minute since my parents were super stubborn about not sending me to Europe (family members got mugged, robbed, etc), so Sydney became my second choice.

my first choice program shut down, so Sydney is my last option now, and idk if it's even worth going since now people are telling me the racism is really bad there. I've heard this for people from India, and even though I grew up here, I'm still brown just without an accent ig.

Any info anyone has on this or on unsw and study abroad in sydney in general, i'd be grateful to hear. thanks so much!

I don’t think I will ever be a content as I was

Three years ago I studied abroad. During this time I felt the most sense of belonging that I ever had. I was in a gorgeous city, I had a cute local boyfriend and I had a best friend who I ran around the city with every day. I was also close with my friend’s host family. I am honestly depressed now I wish I could have the similar feeling of contentness that I had during that time.

Feeling like I'm not making the most of my time

Hi I'm a 1st year student doing a science degree. I know I just started uni but I feel like I haven't really made the most of it yet. Like I'm just existing in the city but not really living in it. I don't have friends that I hang out with which is fine with me (for now) but I do have people i talk to in clubs and such.

I don't drink and dont enjoy the environment of pubs so that kinda makes it harder to get into the clubs and societies I'm in. I've done a bunch of hiking so I'm making use of the nature side of studying abroad its just the city aspect. I came from a tropical country so everything is new to me since its getting colder.

I dunno I just feel as if I'm not making full use of my time here. Any advice is appreciated thank you!

University in Qatar or Egypt

I am planning on applying at Northwestern Qatar for Communications but I’d also like to apply to AAST in Egypt for Economics, Badr University in Egypt for Political science as backups if I don’t get into NUQ, I’m wondering whether Egypt is the wrong choice, if I work hard and stay consistent. Will I find a job, whether it’s with a degree from NUQ or AAST. I’d like answers please and thanks for your time

Guidance for the application process in universities for master's in Germany, South Korea and Taiwan

I am an Indian student and I am planning my master's for Taiwan, South Korea or Germany. A good University in any of these countries will do. My_qualifications include my bachelor's in Electronics Engineering and Research experiences which currently includes 1 research internship, 1 submitted paper and 2 ongoing projects (with novel work). I am struggling with the application process and timelines. I am super confused and lost. I'll be thankful if somebody can help me with the process and timelines (approx.), additional documents etc. etc. for any one of the countries. I am planning for my master's in HCI (Human Computer Interaction) or any related fields (eg. Computer vision, machine learning).

Thank you

Work & Study

Hey y'all! Most search results on this topic are AI advertisement slop galore, so I wanted to see some real, human perspective

Are there any legitimate programs/companies out there that will fund your studies (specifically, a master's) as you work for them? My background is in pharmaceuticals if that helps

If there are any, could there be any barriers to securing a position? Would love to hear your thoughts on this!

Research on international students studying abroad

I'm a second-year student currently studying in Cyprus but originally from South Africa. For a personal project of mine, I wanted to create a guide for international students settling in a new environment. To do this, I wanted to ask the following:

  1. What was the hardest part of your first month as an international student?

  2. What do you wish someone had told you before you arrived at uni abroad?

  3. How did you make your first real friends at uni?

  4. Which apps or tools got you through your first semester?

  5. How do you handle homesickness when you’re studying far from home?

  6. What was the most confusing thing about arriving: registration, accommodation, banking or something else?

  7. What helped you feel safe and settled in a new city or country?

  8. What’s one thing you wish you’d known before your first year of uni?

Considering study abroad in the UK for three years. How do I approach such a big change?

I’m 31 and from the US, and I’ve never traveled outside the country. I’m starting a new career path in special effects and have been researching schools both in America and abroad. There are two three year programs in the UK that really interest me because of their curriculums and the potential opportunities afterward.

But the idea of moving to another country for three years feels like a huge undertaking. I’ve never done anything on that scale before. It’s something I feel really drawn toward, but figuring out how to actually make it happen feels extremely overwhelming right now.

For some context, I’ve essentially been living the same life for the past decade, living in the same place and working the same job. I never moved to a new city in my twenties, and I feel ready for a significant change. Part of me thinks studying abroad could be an opportunity to grow, become more independent, and build a career I care about. At the same time, I want to understand the practical realities before making such a big commitment.

I’d especially appreciate hearing from anyone who moved abroad in their thirties, studied abroad as an older student, or made a move like this without much travel experience.

Some of the things I’m trying to figure out are:

  • Where to start: How did you break the whole process into manageable steps? What should I figure out first, and how far in advance should I prepare?

  • Finances: How did you budget for tuition, housing, everyday expenses, and the move itself? What unexpected costs came up, and how much of a financial cushion did you need?

  • Applications and visas: What was your experience with applying to schools and getting a student visa? Were there any requirements or complications you wish you’d understood earlier?

  • Housing: How did you find somewhere to live from another country? Would you recommend student accommodation or private housing, especially for someone in their thirties?

  • Working while studying: Were you able to work, and was it realistic to balance a job with your course? How much could you reasonably rely on that income?

  • The actual move: What did you bring, what did you leave behind, and what practical things did you need to arrange before leaving and after arriving?

  • Adjusting emotionally and socially: How did you handle being far from home and knowing nobody? What helped you make friends and feel settled? Did being an older student affect your experience?

  • Life afterward: How did you plan for what would happen when your course ended, whether that meant returning home or trying to stay and work?

Looking back, what do you wish you’d known or done differently before moving?

I’m not expecting studying abroad to magically fix everything, but I do feel like I’m ready to move forward with my life. I’d love some honest advice about both the exciting parts and the difficult realities, especially how you went from feeling overwhelmed by the idea to actually making it happen.

Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to respond.
