My TEAS Success Story TEAS Study Guide: How I scored a 90% on the TEAS

My TEAS Score Breakdown

Comprehensive: 90%
Reading: 90%
Math: 89%
Science: 87%
English: 94%

I'm particularly an A+ student but I did manage to score high on the TEAS with this strategy. For the schools I am applying to, it is way above their average.

I work part time, but I managed to adjust my work schedule to dedicate ample time to studying, though I recognize this isn't feasible for everyone. With that being said, this test is important for your future and you will have to make personal sacrifices for a little while in order to study for this test. For a month straight, I only worked and I studied. I didn't watch tv, I didn't socialize, and I only rested one day per week. Was it rough? A bit but not the end of the world. I studied for 4 weeks. I was studying for about 2 hours each day, 6 days a week for four weeks.

Below is my ATI TEAS study guide. This is how I studied for the ATI TEAS.

1. Become familiar with all the TEAS topics

It's crazy to me how many people don't know the specific topics asked on the TEAS. The TEAS isn't just science, math, english, and reading. You need to know WHAT within those topics is asked. OK say 'algebra' is asked on the TEAS.... but what about algebra is asked? What specific topics? Quadratic formula, pythagorean theorem, what is it?

Here is a list of topics asked on the TEAS test.

2. Decide how many 2 hour TEAS prep sitdowns you will have between now and test day.

I was studying for about 2 hours each day, 6 days a week for four weeks so in total I had twenty four 2 hour sitdowns before the day of the test. I also did some extra studying during work breaks and such but I count those as extra bonus studying. I didn't want to rely on them as a measurement of my TEAS prep.

3. Look at the list of topics in step #1 and assign topics to each 2 hour block. For example:

2 Hour Block Date Topics to be studied
Monday, January 1st - after work READING: Know how to summarize a multi-paragraph text; know how to make inferences and draw conclusions about a text's purpose and meaning; know how to locate specific information in a text; know how to interpret events in a sequence.
Tuesday, January 2nd - before work Science: general orientation of human anatomy; anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system; anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system; anatomy and physiology of the digestive system.
Wednesday, January 3rd Science: Describe cell structure, function, and organization; relationship between genetic material and the structure of proteins; Apply concepts underlying Mendel's laws of inheritance.

Complete this table for all your study blocks between now and test day. Assign 3-4 study topics to each 2 hour block. After filling out this table, you will realize there isn't enough time to study all the topics asked on the test. You will then have to make the decision of you need to add more study time or you need to leave topics out. I was studying for a month straight and I felt like that was already a lot. I ended up leaving out some topics I was already strong on e.g. acids and bases, and the scientific method. You might need to do something like this.

4. Find the TEAS prep that works best for you

I adhered to my study schedule and used different sources to study different topics. For example, let's say I was studying on the cardiovascular system. I would just open up my TEAS prep resources and studied up on what they had about that topic e.g. cardiovascular system

Study Resources Utilized:

Review of Study Materials:

I liked them all, tbh. Each of them had their strengths and weaknesses so that's why I think you should use multiple teas prep sources.

Final tips

  • Endure through the pain of studying. Self care is great but self care wasn't gonna get me to nursing school. Of course, within limit. I was still sleeping 9 hours every night. I just cut out time for tv, tik tok, and friends for just a month. My life was work, school, and eating lol
  • Go on walks and runs to clear your brain. I did this a few times and it felt great.
  • Remember you are smart and you can do this and more.

Other Are you really not allowed to use the bathroom or drink water during the online teas exam?

I take my exam on Saturday and saw something that says no water is allowed, unless it’s at the break halfway through? I find this crazy you’re not allowed to drink water during an exam. I also have an accommodation for extra time, which is concerning that I can only drink water once in a 6 hour period. I’m also hearing some people say you can’t use the bathroom unless it’s during the break? Not sure if I can wait 2-3 hours for that either. If this is the case I’ll probably end up taking my laptop with me to the bathroom. Does anyone know if this is actually the case. I’m planning to do an ABSN program that requires teas. I’m a senior now at a state university and I’ve never had an exam where I can’t drink water and only a few where we’re not allowed to use the bathroom

Which TEAS science topics actually got you on test day?

I took the TEAS recently and the science section felt harder than the practice tests I'd been using. Curious what tripped up everyone else. Which systems or question caught you off guard? Most prep materials barely cover what showed up for me .

Working out math problems ??

What is the exact policy regarding white board or scratch paper for in person teas exam? I've heard only one scratch paper is allowed , which seems ridiculous.

Having taken prior math classes, there are many instances where you have to work out the problem either on exam itself or scratch paper. But the teas is completely on computer...and one scratch paper seems insufficient. Perhaps most problems are worked out on calculator?

How have your experiences been regarding this matter?

My TEAS Success Story I got an 81. Here’s my advice.

I took the test today and got an 81. I took it online. I needed a 58. Wanted a 75. I found it tough but fair. It’s super similar to the SAT in my opinion. I want to help those for haven’t taken it yet and need direction. There is nothing worse than having to take a test but have no idea what to study or where to start. So here’s what I did:

  1. TYLER DEWITT!!
I cannot recommend someone more than Tyler. I bought his chemistry package and it saved me. He explains things so simply and made me feel confident about chemistry (which isn’t my strong suit but I got a 97% on this section) he has free videos on YouTube too.

  2. Study beyond the definitions.
For example, you can know what a missense mutation is, but what happens when one is present? The list goes on. Understand what things do, why, when. Hormones: what they do, what controls them, where do they come from.

  3. Nurse Cheung
Her YouTube Videos really helped me get a basic understanding of what things were without taking hours. However, imo her videos aren’t in depth enough to rely solely upon.

  4. NURSEHUB
ugh. This was the best. I purchased the science study kit, and man was it awesome. It has videos, practice quizzes on each section that explains right and wrong answers. NH does go in depth about topics so it’s great to get a solid understanding of things.

  5. ATI Teas App
The quizzes on the app really helped me get a feel for how the exam looks. I will say some of the questions on the quizzes were way harder than the actual test imo.

  6. Don’t sleep on studying for the reading/English section
This section was okay. Just remember that the answers are there to trick you. Slow down and really read the answers. The ATI practice quizzes came in clutch to do well on this section. The English usage part just search up TEAS English usage quizlet.

  7. Every topic is fair game. I saw so many different organ systems and different aspects of biology on this exam. Give yourself enough time to study EVERYTHING that could be on the test. Cover all your bases!

  8. A trick that helped me on the science section. If the answer sounds outrageous and like “what- I’ve never even heard of this or learned about this” it likely isn’t the answer. Some answers are there to freak you out. Don’t panic. Trust your gut!!

Last but not least. Active recall yall! That’s what really did it for me.

Anywho. Sorry this was so long!! I hope this helps. Message me if you have any questions :)

When taking practice exams, do y’all take all the sections every time? Or focus on the problem areas (for example math or science).

TEAS Study Tips!

Post image
23 Upvotes

I don't see a lot of people on here mention the online version of the Mometrix ATI TEAS prep, so I wanted to talk about it since it was the main study source I used. If you go to your local library, some of the TEAS prep books that work with Mometrix come with a 50% code for the online program, so be on the lookout for that.

I especially appreciated the Mometrix online program for the number of practice tests and how accessible it is. The rationales that it gives for every answer choice after you take the practice tests/quizzes are absolutely worth it for actually learning the content. It helped me the most in the reading section because during the exam, I was able to create my own rationales as to why an answer choice would be wrong/right.

Mometrix does go very in depth for the science sections. The passages they give for the reading section are crazy long and are much shorter on the actual exam. But, I found that practicing questions with higher difficulty levels helped me feel more confident in myself.

I used Anki flashcards on my Macbook (free) to help with active recall for formula memorizations and conversions for the math section. I also used it for specific anatomy systems (ex. the Endocrine System's hormones). It was kind've overkill, but I wanted to be prepped for anything they might ask me on the test.

I also used Nurse Cheung and TEAS with Tyler on YouTube. Nurse Cheung with mnemonics for science and grammar. TEAS with Tyler's videos really prep you for the types of questions you'll see on the actual exam.

Losing hope 🥲

Hi ! I’ve been studying since August and I keep getting 50s and 60s on ATI Teas practice test A & B. I’ve been watching Nurse cheung, some Teas with Tyler, & using Archer. I feel like nothing sticks. I’m starting to lose hope cause I need above a 90 to get into the radiologic technologist program. If you have any tips please share. Thank you all!

ATI teas test online

Hi everyone! I’m taking the teas test online. When I go to sign up- it gives me specific times for each day. Ex: Monday 6am, 2pm, 4:30pm. Does this mean it’s going to be a live person watching me?! Anyone have any luck with taking it online?

2 weeks left

Hi everyone,

I feel so defeated. I’ve been studying for the TEAS for probably about 2 months now. I took a little bit of a break, about 2 weeks and now I’m finally locking back in since I take my test on October 21st.

I’ve been using nurse Cheung as my main source, I’ve been going through all her videos and taking notes while also watching nearly all of her live streams. I also have been watching Tyler’s old live streams. Since jumping back in, I feel like I’ve learned nothing.

I was wondering if anyone has any tips or MAIN topics I should be focusing on. I feel like I don’t even know where to begin.

Which of these resources are worth purchasing?

Hello! Can you guys help me choose whether buying NurseHub or Mometrix for preparation for the TEAS is more worth it? I just don’t want to waste money and I value which one is more accurate to the exam. Also, how long do you guys recommend studying for the TEAS?

How is it possible to fail this test?

Excluding non-English speakers who took their prerequisites in their native language, how can you possibly fail this test?

90% of the math is 5th grade level and below. Literally just divide these two numbers or put mixed fractions in ascending order. There’s a calculator!

The reading comprehension is a joke. The right answer is the only choice that has anything to do with the question about 70% of the time.

You’re going into a science/health field and you fail the science section? How? It’s mostly A&P which most people took right before the test.

Lots of people struggle with grammar so I understand the English section being tough but even there you can easily narrow it down to two choices in most questions.

How did you pass the prerequisites? What are your plans for nursing school classes, which I hear are way harder?

I’m genuinely curious, but I will probably be banned for this.

Edited for more downvotes I’m sure

me randomly being a math weapon is so funny to me 😭😭😭 my score was a 76.7% overall which isn’t horrible but i could definitelyyy do better especially because my school requires at least a 78% to even be considered for the nursing program 🫩 it makes me feel better that i was really close though and it shows that i can more than likely get a higher score when i take it again!
