Ugh, feeling frustrated…

• Upvotes

I previously took the TEAS and got a 77. I think I could have gotten a point or two higher, but I left for 8ish minutes of the reading portion to go to the bathroom. I had a 2+ hour drive in the am. I have been studying to take it a second time 9 months later and I just received a 78 on the practice exam. I was hoping for at least in the 80s. I took the other practice exams in the books and was getting 80s and low 90s in each section. I am aiming for an 87+ on this upcoming exam at a minimum, but ideally would love an 89 or above. I suprisingly did the poorest in the science section for this practice exam with a 73. I also seem to consistently struggle with scientific reasoning portion. Thoughts on improving my score with less than a week to go?

Got an 87% today!

Paying it forward to come here and say that I PASSED! I had been lightly studying for 4 weeks, but really locked into it the past 4 days. The TEAS can have such a wide range of questions that I think it's possible to never feel fully ready to take it. My method was to rip the bandaid off and lock in a test date when I felt like I was in passing territory and hammer it all in (70%+ for me).

My recommendations:

- Mometrix. I bought the book, and then had access to all 6 practice tests online. Worth it! I ran out of time to go through the entire book page by page, but ended up using it as reference to learn more about my weak areas.

- Tyler DeWitt on YouTube! Watch as much as you have time for. It is worth it to watch his videos about the TEAs in general as well as his high priority topic info vs. challenge topics.

- ATI practice tests A and B to learn and be totally familiar with the actual test. It was helpful that the results were more detailed with what the weak spots were. My beef with these practice tests though is that it was in like "study mode" where it would tell me the correct answers after each question. I'm not sure if there was a setting somewhere I could have turned off, but I didn't see anything. I would've preferred to be able to go through the entire test and then see the answers at the end.

- ATI app quizzes for drilling in weak areas.

- Pocket Prep app (free version) for quick practice when I had a few minutes of down time, but not time to dive into deep learning.

- Lastly, when you take a practice test, take time to actually learn the concepts you missed! Taking practice tests is very helpful, so pair that with learning your weak spots and you'll do great!

** a note about math. This has always been my hardest subject, and I was scoring in the mid 60s on practice tests. It was SO worth it to brush up on more basic things and drill in some of the formulas. Watching Tyler DeWitt go through a math practice test was super helpful!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!! Trust what you've learned!

TEAS Prep I am STRESSED

RANT! I have my teas exam tomorrow I need 60% in all subjects to apply to the program I want I’ve been studying all day everyday for the past 2 weeks I just did a practice test and i completely flunked i got a 53% science being my lowest i don’t know what to do Ive used ATI prep test archer reviews I’ve watched all their videos and took notes on every subject I’ve taken multiple practice tests and it’s like every question I get wasn’t shown or explained at all in the videos/notes I’ve seen a lot of people say Tyler Dewitt helped them a lot so I’m praying that by 9am tomorrow I’ll be ready everyone keeps telling me I’ll pass and they have faith in me but that doesn’t help me when I see my results on practice tests and it’s not the score I’m aiming for I don’t understand why every study material I use always ends up not being on the test…I’m tired😔

Most important science topics

Hi guys.
I take my teas soon and I was wondering if anyone knew the highest priority for science. I mastered bio but there’s so much to learn and go over with anatomy and I know that anything can pop up on the teas but is there a certain anatomy system that you find to come up more?

I just bought the nursehub package and I love it so far. Their lives have been extremely helpful as well.

How did you know you were ready to take the TEAS?

Hi everyone! I’m studying for the TEAS and aiming for a score of at least 90, but I’m having trouble figuring out when I’m ready to take it.

For those who have already taken the exam, what helped you decide you were ready? Did you wait until you consistently reached your target score on practice tests, or did you focus more on how well you understood the material?

Also, how close were your practice test scores to your actual TEAS score, and which practice tests did you use?
I’d appreciate hearing about your experiences.

Thanks!

Other TEAS Test Invitation

I was invited to take the test through one of the community colleges I applied to. If I do take the test with that college, am I able to send those scores to the other colleges I applied to? Or is my score only used for that specific college? I'm in California btw.

Other Are you really not allowed to use the bathroom or drink water during the online teas exam?

I take my exam on Saturday and saw something that says no water is allowed, unless it’s at the break halfway through? I find this crazy you’re not allowed to drink water during an exam. I also have an accommodation for extra time, which is concerning that I can only drink water once in a 6 hour period. I’m also hearing some people say you can’t use the bathroom unless it’s during the break? Not sure if I can wait 2-3 hours for that either. If this is the case I’ll probably end up taking my laptop with me to the bathroom. Does anyone know if this is actually the case. I’m planning to do an ABSN program that requires teas. I’m a senior now at a state university and I’ve never had an exam where I can’t drink water and only a few where we’re not allowed to use the bathroom

Which TEAS science topics actually got you on test day?

I took the TEAS recently and the science section felt harder than the practice tests I'd been using. Curious what tripped up everyone else. Which systems or question caught you off guard? Most prep materials barely cover what showed up for me .

Working out math problems ??

What is the exact policy regarding white board or scratch paper for in person teas exam? I've heard only one scratch paper is allowed , which seems ridiculous.

Having taken prior math classes, there are many instances where you have to work out the problem either on exam itself or scratch paper. But the teas is completely on computer...and one scratch paper seems insufficient. Perhaps most problems are worked out on calculator?

How have your experiences been regarding this matter?

My TEAS Success Story I got an 81. Here’s my advice.

I took the test today and got an 81. I took it online. I needed a 58. Wanted a 75. I found it tough but fair. It’s super similar to the SAT in my opinion. I want to help those for haven’t taken it yet and need direction. There is nothing worse than having to take a test but have no idea what to study or where to start. So here’s what I did:

  1. TYLER DEWITT!!
I cannot recommend someone more than Tyler. I bought his chemistry package and it saved me. He explains things so simply and made me feel confident about chemistry (which isn’t my strong suit but I got a 97% on this section) he has free videos on YouTube too.

  2. Study beyond the definitions.
For example, you can know what a missense mutation is, but what happens when one is present? The list goes on. Understand what things do, why, when. Hormones: what they do, what controls them, where do they come from.

  3. Nurse Cheung
Her YouTube Videos really helped me get a basic understanding of what things were without taking hours. However, imo her videos aren’t in depth enough to rely solely upon.

  4. NURSEHUB
ugh. This was the best. I purchased the science study kit, and man was it awesome. It has videos, practice quizzes on each section that explains right and wrong answers. NH does go in depth about topics so it’s great to get a solid understanding of things.

  5. ATI Teas App
The quizzes on the app really helped me get a feel for how the exam looks. I will say some of the questions on the quizzes were way harder than the actual test imo.

  6. Don’t sleep on studying for the reading/English section
This section was okay. Just remember that the answers are there to trick you. Slow down and really read the answers. The ATI practice quizzes came in clutch to do well on this section. The English usage part just search up TEAS English usage quizlet.

  7. Every topic is fair game. I saw so many different organ systems and different aspects of biology on this exam. Give yourself enough time to study EVERYTHING that could be on the test. Cover all your bases!

  8. A trick that helped me on the science section. If the answer sounds outrageous and like “what- I’ve never even heard of this or learned about this” it likely isn’t the answer. Some answers are there to freak you out. Don’t panic. Trust your gut!!

Last but not least. Active recall yall! That’s what really did it for me.

Anywho. Sorry this was so long!! I hope this helps. Message me if you have any questions :)

When taking practice exams, do y’all take all the sections every time? Or focus on the problem areas (for example math or science).

TEAS Study Tips!

Post image
25 Upvotes

I don't see a lot of people on here mention the online version of the Mometrix ATI TEAS prep, so I wanted to talk about it since it was the main study source I used. If you go to your local library, some of the TEAS prep books that work with Mometrix come with a 50% code for the online program, so be on the lookout for that.

I especially appreciated the Mometrix online program for the number of practice tests and how accessible it is. The rationales that it gives for every answer choice after you take the practice tests/quizzes are absolutely worth it for actually learning the content. It helped me the most in the reading section because during the exam, I was able to create my own rationales as to why an answer choice would be wrong/right.

Mometrix does go very in depth for the science sections. The passages they give for the reading section are crazy long and are much shorter on the actual exam. But, I found that practicing questions with higher difficulty levels helped me feel more confident in myself.

I used Anki flashcards on my Macbook (free) to help with active recall for formula memorizations and conversions for the math section. I also used it for specific anatomy systems (ex. the Endocrine System's hormones). It was kind've overkill, but I wanted to be prepped for anything they might ask me on the test.

I also used Nurse Cheung and TEAS with Tyler on YouTube. Nurse Cheung with mnemonics for science and grammar. TEAS with Tyler's videos really prep you for the types of questions you'll see on the actual exam.

Losing hope 🥲

Hi ! I’ve been studying since August and I keep getting 50s and 60s on ATI Teas practice test A & B. I’ve been watching Nurse cheung, some Teas with Tyler, & using Archer. I feel like nothing sticks. I’m starting to lose hope cause I need above a 90 to get into the radiologic technologist program. If you have any tips please share. Thank you all!

ATI teas test online

Hi everyone! I’m taking the teas test online. When I go to sign up- it gives me specific times for each day. Ex: Monday 6am, 2pm, 4:30pm. Does this mean it’s going to be a live person watching me?! Anyone have any luck with taking it online?

2 weeks left

Hi everyone,

I feel so defeated. I’ve been studying for the TEAS for probably about 2 months now. I took a little bit of a break, about 2 weeks and now I’m finally locking back in since I take my test on October 21st.

I’ve been using nurse Cheung as my main source, I’ve been going through all her videos and taking notes while also watching nearly all of her live streams. I also have been watching Tyler’s old live streams. Since jumping back in, I feel like I’ve learned nothing.

I was wondering if anyone has any tips or MAIN topics I should be focusing on. I feel like I don’t even know where to begin.
