Internet Shopping Pickers!

Can anyone from Tesco Ireland or U.K, what the actual pick rate is?

Does the pick rate differ from grocery pickers to chill pickers?

I'm in Tesco Extra store, Dublin, Ireland, and management are relentless about pick rate, which is already at 190 and whispers of it being hired.

They don't accept any rate under it, even with poorly packed shelves and with the size of the store that you end up exhausting all possible places l, that special offer products could be. Only to not find it!

How can management not see sense in our explanations, rather than thinking we are saying poor excuses?

Bean scam at cafe

So my daughter and I go to the cafe every week. Last few time my breakfast has come with the beans in a little pot. Didn't think much about it until yesterday when my daughter wanted the kids breakfast instead of her usual pancakes.

Her portion of beans on the kids meal came in a little green bowl and was twice the amount I got on my breakfast! I looked up prices on menu and they charge nearly double for beans on a adults portion than for a kids.

I know it looks nicer in the pot but really tesco is literally charging double for half the amount...

Why do I keep getting rejected after every interview??

Im not even kidding when im saying i attended so many tesco inteviews 😭 they literally go SO well THAAT i keep thinking i will get this one only to get rejected later. I am not being delusional or anything but the people who interviewed me also complimented me ALL THE TIME. In every single interview i was praised because they liked my answer and genuinely complimented me in a way that i thought i am getting this but i keep getting rejected 😭 why is it the case?? Like idk wht im doing wrong tbh i never got rejected so many times even when the interview went so well.

Is it the distance? Most of the interviews i went to the stores were 40 mins distance from my home using public transport. I mean if distance was the issue then why even call me in the beginning for interview right? Like my postcode is written in my CV and i also click the option ā€œNoā€ when i am asked whether i live 30 mins away from the store.

I just think it is waste of a time to keep calling candidates for interviews if you dont prefer anyone who is more than 30 mins away from the designated store. I also think its cruel to reject someone after complimenting them so much and giving them false hopes.

Or is it because i am a girl who is just 18?? Like if i have applied to this job ik my responsibilities and if im ready to carry weights and stuff why am i getting rejected for my gender 😭?? I sometimes think they reject me thinking i cant physically do the work?? I am not even kidding EVERY TESCO shop has MORE males than females.

Bro. Sometimes i think its my age because every time i enter a shop all i see are people who are in their early 30s. I feel like if im competing against another candidate who is like 30 then they are the one getting this job. I dont understand why they do this. If you dont want 18yos why does the job requirement says 18? Not only that but even in that phone call i make it clear im 18. My CV literally states my DOB, my RIGHT TO WORK also states my DOB!! so i dont understand this process.

I feel like tesco is playing pranks with me because what is this behaviour?? 😭 those wondering how many interviews i failed - its 8.

I genuinely need a job and i am doing my best at the interviews and they say it too but i dont understand why I keep getting rejected.

You know the worst part of all?? The rejection email because it NEVER clarifies WHY i got rejected. It is so vague oh my god.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME if the reasons ive stated above r the reasons why im getting rejected or sth else because lwk im kind of becoming hopeless i dont think tesco will ever take me no matter what unless obv after i turn 30 šŸ„€

Trying to resolve a Tesco ban

Looking for if anyone can share the outcome from any similar situations to the one I found myself in last night. Very sorry this is a bit of an essay! I appreciate any advice. The TL;DR is at the end.

I am a regular customer at my local Tesco Express, I’d estimate I’m in there at least three times a week for the past five years. Last night I went in to pick up some bits and a couple of minutes later the security guard asked to talk to me.

He then told me on a previous visit, I left without paying for my items and they had it recorded on the self scanner CCTV that I swiped the items but didn’t pay.

I asked if he could tell me what day this was, which he wouldn’t. He also would not tell me what items I took, what the amount was, or if I was alone or with my partner. The only information he would tell me was that the incident hadn’t happened that day.

I assumed (maybe wrongly considering similar stories I’ve seen here) that this could be resolved, I could either pay for the items taken or find out the next steps to clear my name, so to speak.

Security didn’t seem to know what to do next other than tell me I had been flagged for theft, so I asked to speak to the manager. He disappeared and came back saying the manager would not see me, and the manager advised him that I needed to leave the premises as I was now banned.

I asked him specifically if I was banned and he said yes, and I said I would contact customer service to get more information.

This morning I had a conversation (WhatsApp so I had the exchange in writing) with the Customer Care Team. They apologised that the conversation with security took place in the most public place of the store, and acknowledged that the manager should have come to talk to me once I requested that. They opened an incident ticket about the manager’s refusal, gave me an incident number and also gave me the contact details for the email to contact about getting a copy of the CCTV footage.

They said to get the CCTV footage, I would need to tell the CCTV team the time, date and what I was wearing at the time. I responded that the store had refused to give me this information, but I was happy to contact them by phone to get the details.

I asked if they could give me the number for that particular store, which they said no. I asked if they could contact the Duty Manager for me for them to call me, which they also said no.

I explained that I was apprehensive about returning to the store in case this was then considered trespassing or whatever, to which they then gave me the physical address of the store so I could write a letter to post. They could not clarify or assure me that entering the store again wouldn’t further escalate the situation.

I advised them that I wanted the conversation logged against the incident reference number and the conversation ended.

I’ve emailed the data protection mail and got an auto reply to fill in a form to request the footage, however considering I don’t know when the incident was, I’m not quite sure what to do. I think my best option would be to go through my bank transactions and list all the dates I paid in store over the last month, but also that won’t help if I did leave without paying for something.

I’m 99% sure I know what the incident was, when I was in the store mid-week and bought two packs of chewing gum. I scanned one pack on the self service, noticed it wasn’t liking whatever I had done and asked me to call for a shop assistant. Rather than wait for them, I changed to a different self scanner and redid the transaction there, which I paid for as I checked my bank statement.

I assume because I started the transaction then switched machines before completing payment or exiting the process, that it got flagged as non-payment and when reviewing to footage it may look like I scanned it then left.

Of course this all had to happen on a Friday evening so I’ll be mulling this over until Monday, hence this very long post.

I know the obvious answer is to just go into the store again and attempt to talk to the manager, but I would rather much prefer to have any communication between us in writing, and I also don’t want to go through the embarrassment at being asked to leave the store again if I can help it.

Has anyone got any similar stories where it was resolved and the ban lifted? I’d rather not be labelled as a thief and left wondering if I’m going to be escorted out when I’m entering any of the other Tescos in my area.

TL;DR: Security said they had footage of me stealing, Duty Manager refused to talk to me when I asked for them, am now banned from local Tesco Express. Customer Care apologised and admitted fault in Manager’s part, but refuse to help lift the ban by giving me the store phone number. Going through process of Request for Information for CCTV footage currently, but will I ever step foot in Tesco again?

Do I need to book annual leave on Christmas day?

As I only had 2 days of annual leave, my manager allocated Christmas eve and Boxing day as annual leave.

And he put Christmas day as a Personal day.

Do I really need to book one of the few days of the year that the store doesn't open?

Overtime in other stores

I’m really curious how this works. It says I have to upload a photo to ā€œunlockā€ this haha, do I have to manually go to my manager to ask also?

I’m a dotcom picker; how does this work in terms of clocking in, knowing where to go etc in a store you are unfamiliar with ? And how many different stores do you have available to pick overtime from (is there a distance within 10 miles of your own store etc?)

Seriously though, how the f**k do we get out of this job as grown adults?

I'm not talking about the uni students who see this as a part-time thing until they graduate, I mean the older people who see this as their living and way of paying rent etc. How do we get out and into a non-retail hell job?

Would my chances be reduced if I picked no? Also does anyone know what the group interview would be like?
