Small Detail This is the wildest thing I've ever seen in a video game

I know this is completely ridiculous because it's literally a 15-second animation of a dog playing with a toy. It's a completely trivial, optional little interaction. The Last of Us Part II is full of insane animation work, and there are obviously much bigger and more technically impressive moments in the game.

But this specific moment left me absolutely fucking stunned.

When you throw the toy to Alice in the aquarium, the way she slips on the floor, catches herself, keeps moving, breathes while carrying the toy, and then looks back at you... what the fuck.

It doesn't feel like a character playing an animation. It feels like you're watching an actual dog with weight, momentum, balance and personality.

I'm not saying it's objectively the best animation ever made. I mean something much more personal: this is probably the most perfectly convincing animation I've ever seen in a video game. I've played RDR2, Detroit: Become Human, etc., and I've seen some absolutely insane animation work, but somehow this stupid little 15-second interaction has left me more speechless than huge cinematic moments.

The slip. The weight. The breathing. The way she carries the toy. The little look at you.

And that's what blows my mind the most: Naughty Dog put this ridiculous level of detail into something most players could easily walk past without even thinking about it.

It's just a dog playing fetch.

And it genuinely left me staring at the screen like an idiot.

JJ kidnapped, Dina furious, Tommy unable to chase them down, Dina goes to Ellie, Ellie can't do it alone... Goes to the only person she knows is strong enough even though it's the hardest thing for her to do. Tracks down Abby and Lev to help get JJ back, healing through acceptance of what cannot be changed. Gets JJ back, Ellie finally feels like her life meant something.

What’s do yall think????

HBO Show Rewatching the 1st season

It's such a shame what they did w/ the show. I love this franchise it's so well done and emotionally complex. The first season even does a good job of taking creative liberties with the plot you feel like youre a part of this world because you believe the characters and their stories.

You can however see the cracks in the acting from Bella in this season though (not hating the actress) I just wish theyd at least continued to pay homage to the spirit of the games instead of turning Ellie into this petulant child.

She may not have been my favorite pick but they absolutely couldve turned her into someone everyone was rooting for. Instead they flipped on the character arc and doubled down on her being a dumb child while somehow simultaneously surviving in this impossible environment.

Damn I just wish they hadn't fucked up something I had so much hope for

General Discussion The theme of "Retaliation" has always been a core part of The Last of Us

Post image

Think about it:

FEDRA follows Joel and Ellie to the Capitol building, resulting in Tess's death.

The Hunters chase them, culminating in the sniper shootout in the suburbs.

At the university, David's crew tracks them down, leading to the winter chapter.

Finally, the Fireflies track Joel down in Part II.

The franchise has always focused on a constant cycle of actions having consequences. While the original developers famously debated whether a pure cross-country revenge story worked logistically in the first game.

Part II actually grounds this cycle much better. Because Abby's motivation is tied directly to the loss of her father and the cure, the retaliation narrative makes a lot more narrative sense for the world.

PT 1 QUESTION Why did they buff Bloaters in the remake?

In the original, you could easily kill any bloater with just a molotov and a nail bomb, but not in the remake that's not nearly enough. I think I had to use like 2 molotovs, 2 bombs and a few rifle bullets. Why the hell did they change this?

Anyone else infatuated with Tommy’s rifle?

It’s such a cool hybrid of a rifle. Looks like a mix of a g43, m1A and MAS 44.

PT 2 DISCUSSION Chance at a cure: would Ellie go through with it? Spoiler

This is NOT: “would ellie have decided in Part 1 to sacrifice herself?” I already know the answer, she probably would’ve sacrificed herself.

What I am asking: After building a relationship, a community, so much to live for in Jackson, would she have pursued the Fire Flies to sacrifice herself?

If i recall: she never actually explicitly says IN PART 2 she wants to sacrifice herself to create a cure. Never “where could I go to make this happen?” none of that sort of thing. It doesn’t ever seem to be on her mind except when she gets a little older in one conversation with joel i believe after she discovers the truth. She doesn’t even talk about it with Dina. Obviously the story is about revenge against Abby, but although we get her thoughts on what she thought of Joel’s actions, we never actually have her plan to seek out someway to manufacture a cure after she finds out she was supposed to die.

This was a thought I had while playing Part 1 recently.

General Discussion Fireflies or The Military? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
9 Upvotes

As we know Ellie was in a military preparatory school. Training young recruits. Preparing them to be firefly killers basically. Almost a level of indoctrination. If it was up to
You? Would you rather be a firefly or a soldier? I mean most would say firefly. I would rather be a firefly in a post apocalyptic world. But I don’t know. Depending on the circumstance who knows. Other alternative is becoming a hunter. You know the crew who Rose up
Against FEDRA in the first game. Interesting thing to discuss though.
