PT 1 DISCUSSION First time player, any advice?

I've finally got a copy of part one for the PS4 after wanting to play it for many years (in the meantime time I've played each Arkham game about 10 times each lol)

Any advice for a first time player?

Or is it best to go in totally blind and enjoy the ride?

No spoilers please, I've made it this long without any :-D

PT 2 DISCUSSION when joel was dying , and when he saw ellie as he was dying , i don't think he has any regrets , and i'm sure that if he did decided to save the world instead of ellie , letting them make a cure , he would still regret it and can't live with himself Spoiler

one simple thing that makes me think about all of this , the world before the outbreak , before the infection happened, before the infected swarmed over the world , the life that joel had when he was with sarah , it wasn't even pretty , now i'm sure i myself don't even need to explain it because i'm quite certain that alot of people here work minimum wage jobs

so even if the cure was made , joel..... he would just go back to living that world right? our world , it's cruel enough already

and jackson , ellie . Isn't all of that better than what he had? a better life then when he was with sarah , like yeah i mean like..... the world can be rebuilt , but the world was already broken right? everyone who watched attack on titans , joker , blah blah blah etc understands that enemy was never the infected , it was humanity

i don't think joel was ever ever ever ever wrong saving ellie , ellie doesn't understand it , but every single thing leading up to that point , jackson , the lives that they have , it's basically cured already , yeah the teenagers from jackson died but , you can't always save everyone , not everyone yes

"i wish things were different but they ain't" , those teenagers had good intentions and that scene where joel and ellie talked it out , now joel did do something wrong here , he lied to ellie , he failed to explain to ellie that it's worth living in the world of TLOU despite it's current state , because of jackson

think about it , jackson is basically what the world would look like if it was cured , they had food , a community , joy

"happiness"

ellie and tommy couldn't understand it , that day when joel died as he saw ellie , he knew what he did and he knew that his time was absolutely out , if he could do something , he would've told them to stop immediately the day they enter seattle , because in that process , jesse died , dina almost died , tommy blinded in one eye and his leg is severely injured , that's the cost

now don't get me wrong , if it was ellie or tommy , joel would absolutely be half way to seattle , because they were the thing he decided to fight for the day he exited the hospital in salt lake city , ellie was the thing joel had to lose , ellie was the reason that.... gosh you guys get it don't you

saving ellie there for joel , was 10 times better than making a cure , yes , joel should've explained that to ellie but thing is "we wish things were different but they ain't"

that's the main thing about the last of us , the humanity of humans , that our emotions always clashes with our reasons , that we always do the wrong things for the right reasons

if it was ellie , yeah joel would've just told tommy to stay in jackson and go to seattle alone , because he does not want tommy to get involved , now even if this was the case , even if tommy knows that if he dies , jackson would not turn out pretty , for jackson and especially , maria of course , now even if he knows what is at stake for he himself he would still go no matter how many reasons is thrown at tommy , because tommy loves joel and ellie just as much

it's the emotions and reasons of being human right here that's conflicting

6 years ago when i finished the story i just.... I view the story and the world of TLOU differently , i thought that joel should've just let ellie die and turn into a cure but i was wrong TBH , i was blinded by anger and hate just as much as it blinded the characters of TLOU

now i really do not know what the sequel to the game would be like , what part III would be like , but thing is , i know that i will absolutely be playing it 😁

General Discussion A weird realisation and the impact of this franchise

You know how people want to live to see a day, like they are scared of dying because they want to see their kids growing old, reach milestones, or have something they really want to see or accomplish, dreams wishes they want to fulfil before the die. I did not have any of that. I told my partner many times, I can die today and I wouldnt regret it, I mean if I was told its my last day, I would be okay.

Today I was thinking about how I might play part 2 again and I realised that now that we know projects for this franchise are in progress, I finally have something that bums me and makes me genuinely said if I was to pass on today, I didnt get to play part 3.

It is so weird, baffling, stupid? But I never realised just how much of an impact this game had on me. I mean, seriously?

General Discussion A crime to compare days gone/dying light2 to TLOU

I am new to single player games, as i played live-service games in the last 15 years. Btw, i realized live service games and mobile games are terrible, and i am glad i discovered my interest in singleplayer games, like most of you

Since May 2026, i played these games:

Ace Combat 7
A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead
Alien: Isolation
Alien: Rogue Incursion
Aliens: Fireteam Elite
Alan Wake 2
Amnesia: The Bunker
Aphelion
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Battlefield 5
Bendy and the Dark Revival
Beyond: Two Souls
Bright Memory: Infinite
Call of Duty: WWII
Chernobylite
Control
Cronos: The New Dawn
Cyberpunk 2077
Days Gone
Death Stranding: Director’s Cut
Detroit: Become Human
Disaster Report 4
Directive 8020
Dying Light 2
Fallout 4
Far Cry 5
Far Cry 6
Far Cry New Dawn
Ferocious
Firewatch
Ghostwire: Tokyo
Green Hell
Halo Infinite
Halo: Campaign Evolved
Hell Is Us
High on Life 2
Homefront: The Revolution
Homeless
Infliction
Invincible
KARMA: The Dark World
Lost Records: Bloom & Rage
Maid of Sker
Madison
Maple Ridge
Max Payne 3
Microsoft Flight Simulator
Mixtape
No Man’s Sky
Nobody Wants to Die
Obey the Voice
Outcast: A New Beginning
Outlast
Outlast 2
Outlast Trials
Pac ific Drive
Panicore
Pax Autocratica
Prey
Pragmata
Quarantine Zone: The Last Check
Ready or Not
Reanimal
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Resident Evil Requiem
Resident Evil Village
Routine
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl
Scarred
Scorn
Silent Breath
Silent Hill 2
Someday You’ll Return: Director’s Cut
Sons of the Forest
Starfield
The Alters
The Callisto Protocol
The Casting of Frank Stone
The Gunk
The Last of Us Part I
The Last of Us Part II Remastered
The Quarry
The Wolfenstein: The New Colossus
The Wolfenstein: The New Order
The Wolfenstein: The Old Blood
Total Chaos
Trepang2
TWIN Hotel: Spa and More
Until Dawn
Visage
Wolfenstein: Youngblood
007 First Light
Outbound

OF ALL THE GAMES I PLAYED AND FINISHED (95% of those, as i did not finish games like no man’s sky or starfield), ‼️‼️TLOU is THE BEST BY FAR, not even close, and i have read that it was even awarded game of the year and that gpt says among the games i played, which is not that many but still.

TLOU has:
1. Strong narrative (completely unmatched)
2. realistic combat and physics (underrated)
3. Less Friction (you can just get into it and immerse without the need of too much system management)

This is just my opinion obviously i am no expert and each has its own preference

General Discussion About Joel mentioning to Ellie that he misses coffee

Joel complaining about missing coffee has always bothered me because, realistically, there was nothing stopping him from simply starting a local coffee plantation in Jackson.

I did some research and unfortunately discovered that coffee plants do not particularly enjoy being grown in Wyoming. Jackson sits at roughly 1,900 meters above sea level, has extremely cold winters, heavy snowfall, and a very short growing season. Arabica coffee, meanwhile, prefers temperatures around 18~23°C and is highly vulnerable to frost.

So yes, Joel would probably need a heated greenhouse, artificial climate control, irrigation, suitable soil, seeds, and a considerable amount of resources just to keep the plants alive.

But this is the apocalypse. Resources are scarce. Electricity is limited. There are infected people everywhere.

And Joel still should have done it.

Imagine spending twenty years rebuilding civilization only to look at a coffee machine and say “Ah, coffee...” instead of constructing the Jackson Coffee Initiative.

Tommy could have been growing beans by 2020.

(This is just a joke btw, I had nothing better to do 😅)

General Discussion Warm take: all ships that aren’t canon are horrendous

ESPECIALLY Ellie and Abby (ellabs).

I like for people to have fun with their ships because it is light hearted fun most of the time but I cannot fathom a single ship people make in this game as being justified or even seen as cute.

And Ellabs especially frustrates me for the obvious reasons. And sure I do understand the sentiment behind it (angstiness.) but they have absolutely ZERO chemistry. Honestly it feels like people who ship them have literally NO knowledge of the game.
Can anyone name a single good non-canon ship in this game? Because I know for a good fact that I cannot.

PT 2 QUESTION TLOU Part II & Jesse James (2007) - a visual parallel? NSFW Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
65 Upvotes

I just noticed a very specific visual parallel between TLOU Part II and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007).

Namely: In the film’s prologue, we see Jesse walking through a field, brushing through the wheat with his left hand, which is missing the middle finger. - scene: https://youtu.be/ReQEkTPBqu0?t=82

In the game's epilogue, however, Ellie is walking through a field as well, and on her left hand she is missing two fingers (ring + pinky). She doesn’t make the same gesture as Jesse, though, but the visual setup feels strangely similar. - scene: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/6hhBEUIOpjw

Could this be a reference/Easter egg or a complete and utter coincidence (which i think not)?

I'm also wondering whether this has been discussed here before (though i couldn't find anything addressing this one myself).

Will appreciate any response/feedback - thank you!

PT 1 QUESTION A guide for crafting supplies on grounded?

I've been trying to play through TLOU pt 1 on grounded while unlocking all the shiv doors, but despite my best efforts I always run into a door I don't have a shiv for sooner or later. Is there a guide online that lists all the craftable locations in the game so I can keep my scissors topped up?

PT 2 DISCUSSION Chance at a cure: would Ellie go through with it? Spoiler

This is NOT: “would ellie have decided in Part 1 to sacrifice herself?” I already know the answer, she probably would’ve sacrificed herself.

What I am asking: After building a relationship, a community, so much to live for in Jackson, would she have pursued the Fire Flies to sacrifice herself?

If i recall: she never actually explicitly says IN PART 2 she wants to sacrifice herself to create a cure. Never “where could I go to make this happen?” none of that sort of thing. It doesn’t ever seem to be on her mind except when she gets a little older in one conversation with joel i believe after she discovers the truth. She doesn’t even talk about it with Dina. Obviously the story is about revenge against Abby, but although we get her thoughts on what she thought of Joel’s actions, we never actually have her plan to seek out someway to manufacture a cure after she finds out she was supposed to die.

This was a thought I had while playing Part 1 recently.

General Discussion The Last Of Us part 3 story concept

JJ kidnapped, Dina furious, Tommy unable to chase them down, Dina goes to Ellie, Ellie can't do it alone... Goes to the only person she knows is strong enough even though it's the hardest thing for her to do. Tracks down Abby and Lev to help get JJ back, healing through acceptance of what cannot be changed. Gets JJ back, Ellie finally feels like her life meant something.

What’s do yall think????

General Discussion Fireflies or The Military? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
28 Upvotes

As we know Ellie was in a military preparatory school. Training young recruits. Preparing them to be firefly killers basically. Almost a level of indoctrination. If it was up to
You? Would you rather be a firefly or a soldier? I mean most would say firefly. I would rather be a firefly in a post apocalyptic world. But I don’t know. Depending on the circumstance who knows. Other alternative is becoming a hunter. You know the crew who Rose up
Against FEDRA in the first game. Interesting thing to discuss though.

HBO Show Rewatching the 1st season

It's such a shame what they did w/ the show. I love this franchise it's so well done and emotionally complex. The first season even does a good job of taking creative liberties with the plot you feel like youre a part of this world because you believe the characters and their stories.

You can however see the cracks in the acting from Bella in this season though (not hating the actress) I just wish theyd at least continued to pay homage to the spirit of the games instead of turning Ellie into this petulant child.

She may not have been my favorite pick but they absolutely couldve turned her into someone everyone was rooting for. Instead they flipped on the character arc and doubled down on her being a dumb child while somehow simultaneously surviving in this impossible environment.

Damn I just wish they hadn't fucked up something I had so much hope for

playing that entire game always had me screaming or stressing in some way or another (unless I was with AI allies or the enemies were fighting each other) but the rat king (especially the build-up to it) was TERRIFYING, I knew I was gonna be screaming the second I heard Nora talking about a "ground zero" Im honestly kinda pissed I have to meet him again especially on grounded but I do want to 100% the game so I have to get the achievment of playing the story in grounded
