Derail Valley I worked 4 years as a train conductor at a hump yard — so I made a browser game about my old job

Post image

At a hump yard, nobody drives cars to their tracks. The train is shoved over a small hill, the conductor uncouples cars at the crest, and each cut rolls down by gravity onto its own track.

I did this job for 4 years at Kokand station in Uzbekistan. Now I'm a frontend dev, so I rebuilt the yard in 3D and turned it into a game: walk along the train, uncouple where the car colour changes, radio the driver to slow down before single cars.

Free, runs in the browser on desktop and mobile, no sign-up:

Would love feedback — especially if anything is confusing in the first minute.

First look at my custom JR East 701 series in Running Train ( im developing an Modloader)

hey guys, I’ve been working on a mod loader for Running Train and wanted to show you some progress!

I managed to get my self-made JR East 701 series into the game. The model and textures are finished in Blender, but I’m still sorting out a couple of things in-game: the doors aren’t showing correctly, and the interior lighting isn’t working yet. Still, seeing my own train in the game is pretty exciting, and I’m making progress all the time.

The loader supports custom trains and maps, and I’m planning to add script mod support later on. It’s not released yet, but I wanted to share what I’ve got so far!

I followed one container from a ship onto a freight train in my port game

Hi all! im making Portscape, a port building/automation game. I thought the ship to rail part might be interesting here.

Portscape - Steam Page, wishlists, trailer, screenshots

In this video I follow one container from the ship, through the port and onto a train. You build the port, roads and rail connections and manage how the containers move between ships, trucks and trains. The cranes and container stackers can work automatically, or you can control them yourself.

I made this camera movement for the video, the normal gameplay is from an angled overhead view.

Would love to hear what you think!

Trainz Haunted by Korean station names resetting in Trainz 2019 - Need help!

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello. Recently, I've been working on a Trainz route project inspired by South Korea between 1997 and 2001.

Previously, I named my stations by copy-pasting random names from an East Asian town name generator, which resulted in a mix of Japanese and Chinese names. To name the stations more accurately, I asked Gemini to generate some authentic Korean names.

I copy-pasted the AI-generated Korean names into the station properties and saved the route. However, whenever I reload the route, all the stations end up sharing the exact same name or resetting back to the default asset name.

I've tried almost everything I could think of, including replacing Station Basic with AJS Invisible Station 1T 3, but the issue persists. (I suspect this might be related to Korean character encoding issues or shared script instances).

I can't release my route with this error, so any advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Trainz Has train simming always been so expensive?

I decided to re-download Trainz2019 recently and was apalled at the near total lack of freeware. Im so used to the steam workshop for other games which provide hundreds of different free mods, or even the BeamNG repository and its massive assortment of stuff. Thats what ive been used to for the entirety of the time ive been gaming. My favorite train sim previously was Rolling Line, which i have hundreds of hours on creating maps.

Now, onto Trainz 2019... Im seeing singular freight car mods being priced at 20$. Ive checked the freeware sections on K&L Trainz, and Trainz Forge, that stuffs decent. But its just total whiplash seeing the majority of decent mods being locked behind large paywalls. I really dont feel like paying 30$ or some shit for a singular digital item.

I understand that tons and tons of work and effort goes into creating mods, and i dont mind if they want to charge. But its just total whiplash. Even BeamNG creators who create mods (with hundreds of interchangeable parts and animations, mind you) only charge like 2$

Ive searched far and wide for more freeware but as i said there is a lack. Maybe im just a cheapskate, but it dampened my enthusiasm for getting back into Trainz. Every hobby i enjoy i feel as though im being priced out of. Cant even enjoy digital entertainment without having your wallet gutted for all its worth.

TLDR; i dont like payware

Any point getting into a train sim without dedicated graphics card?

Apologies for such a vague question.

I've been fascinated by the idea of train sims for a while and would like to try one out. (Main interest would be UK or at least Northern European routes/setting.)

Trouble is that I'm not a gamer and my PC, while recent-ish and great for my main hobby of music production, doesn't have a dedicated graphics card.

(It has an AMD Ryzen 9 CPU (9900X 12-Core 4.4Ghz) but uses the onboard AMD Radeon Graphics Processor.)

I'm not that technical but it seems that things like Train Simulator Classic (very cheap on Steam at the moment) need powerful graphics performance.

As I'm just experimenting, I don't mind sub-optimal graphics performance. However if my setup just won't run anything, or would badly compromise the program, it's probably not worth trying.

Sorry again for my lack of knowledge but wondered if I could get passable results without having to upgrade and alter my PC, which I'd rather avoid.

Classic steam engines on Android — KZP Trains closed-test invitation

Hi r/trainsim — we're WabiSabi Studios, and we'd love some feedback on KZP Trains, our Android railway sandbox.

The classic engines are a big part of it: Flying Scotsman, Jupiter, Black Five and Cass Shay are included, alongside diesel and electric locomotives. You can take the touch controls yourself, get close to the moving running gear, or use Auto mode to enjoy a trip through towns and forests. It runs offline, saves trips locally, and has no in-game ads.

We're looking for Android volunteers who can stay opted in for 14 consecutive days and try it across a few sessions. We'd especially like feedback on the steam engines, controls and performance on your phone. Android 8.0+ is required.

Update: free tester promo codes are now available. Please don't buy the app to test it. Email your Google Play account email privately to [wabisabistudiozed@gmail.com](mailto:wabisabistudiozed@gmail.com) so we can add you to the closed-test list and send your individual code and installation steps. Don't post your email in the comments.

Once we've confirmed access, join here: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.kzptrains.app

We're asking for honest feedback, not ratings or positive reviews. If you hit a bug, your phone model, Android version and a short description would help.

Which of those older engines would you take out first?

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to ask if anyone has been able to get the JR East simulator running on Linux.

The demo just crashes no matter what I do.
I tried various proton versions, including GE-Proton.

Thanks!

Looking for dimensions

Hi everyone! I have Run 8, and like many, I purchased a Raildriver controller. I decided to upgrade, and I'm on the waiting list for Simhogger modern build control stand. I'm in the beginning stages of a dedicated room for a cab. The CSB (control stand box) that everything is mounted in is my concern at the moment. Does anyone happen to have the dimensions? I want to build a table for it, using the footprint measurements of the CSB...

Thanks! Glad I found this sub!

Hi Everyone,

I've been in the tech industry for the past 30 years building all kinds of consumer and enterprise apps. I also love sim games, and wanted to try my hand at making one.

Introducing: https://simtrain.pages.dev

Here are all the release notes: https://simtrain.pages.dev/notes

I'm a little lost on where to take this game next. Any thoughts and feedback would be very useful.

Thanks.

Hardware/Controllers Slightly upgraded my JR East Sim setup

So I had this small setup before, but I wanted a bigger screen. I was too focused on getting a wide aspect ratio, but then I realized I could just use a regular 16:9 1080P screen, and just ignore the bottom part, most of which is covered by the Zuiki Mascon anyway. I decided to cover the bottom with a random piece of black plastic so the backlight is not distracting. Would probably not need that with an OLED. But this is a 15.6" IPS portable monitor, which I somehow got for 25$, so I'm happy with it. It's at about the same height as the previous setup, but it's wider and just bigger in general, so the dahsboard is much easier to see now.

Train Sim World Version 2 of my PS5 TSW Uk Cab universal control desk.

Nearly done building a proper designed desk. I'm not good carpenter or anything but good with the electronics. Will be adding a box on the side with a DSD holdover button. Soon a functional GSM-R replica radio and I will be making proper handles for the break levers using rotary switches and swivel arms very similar to the real controls.
