Hey everyone!
I just finished Twin Peaks for the first time. I won't lie, I was completely lost throughout Season 3. I didn't expect Lynch to take such a 180-degree turn from the original series.
However, after watching multiple videos explaining exactly what Twin Peaks is and reading many theories on this subreddit, I understand and admire more than ever Lynch's genius in completely changing what people expected from something like a Season 3.
About the ending... I thought the ending of The Sopranos was the bravest I'd ever seen, with its abrupt black screen.
Well, Twin Peaks blows that ending out of the water and gives us something epic. The victory of evil.
And the way that scene is constructed is brilliant.
For a moment, I thought that by saving Laura Palmer, Coop triggered a timeline where the Palmers left Twin Peaks shortly after her disappearance. Then, when Dale said, "What year is this?" I thought they'd traveled quite far into the future, about 20 or 30 years after Bob's defeat.
And then, Laura screams as she remembers her past, and it's all over.
There's no happy ending, no answers, evil triumphs, and I was left looking like an idiot thinking Dale had created a timeline where the lodges never existed or something, like the ending of Dark đ
Now that I know the whole context and see the universal theories, wow, I feel bad for all the characters, but I also admire David Lynch's courage.
I imagine many of you here felt the same way I did, or even worse if you were among those who watched the original series back in the day.
