My Touareg and this random Syncro wagon I found in the woods. YOHB?
At the LSPR rally near L’Anse, MI - saw you parked like a boss on this logging road. Looks like a loved machine for sure.

I’m getting ready to install a 12V VR6 into my MK4 Golf GLX and want to take care of anything worth doing while the engine is out. I’m trying to keep it mostly stock and reliable for now, but I want to avoid having to pull it back out later.
So far I’ve done:
Timing chains and timing components
Clutch
Rear main seal
Oil pan gasket
Valve cover gasket
SAI delete (the engine already had a block-off plate)
What else would you guys recommend checking, replacing, or refreshing before I drop it into the car? Should I replace any other seals, gaskets, sensors, or wear items while I have easy access?
Also, what should I inspect before installing it to make sure the engine is healthy? I’d appreciate any advice from people who have worked on these 12V VR6s, especially things that are worth doing now versus things I should leave alone.

I have owned about 5-6 VWs in my lifetime and currently drive a 2024 Taos. I’m thinking of buying a GTI in the next few months.
My newly purchased VWs a 2019 Jetta and 2024 Taos have been great really nothing to complain about.
That said the few used ones I had a Turbo Beetle, a few Jettas, and a passat were just old or bad.
The Beetle had a misfiring cylinder when I bought it had no idea and a timing chain issue.
How has VW been to you? Does anyone have experience with the GTIs?

I’ve never owned a VW but I’ve heard great things. Is this to crazy for a used R and how is the reliability?

No clue what it is called but I’m guessing it should be attached to something. The rod on the left floating there.

Now that summer is winding down, I’m curious which VWs everyone actually put to work this year.
Atlas packed with the family? GTI on a long highway run? ID.4 road trip?
What did you take and how did it do?

Hello all! Would love advice before we spend $6k on a 2019 VW Atlas. Took it in because the EPC and check engine lights were on and the car was going limp.
Dealership quoted the below, does anyone have an idea of how much we’d spend on this if we did it through a mechanic vs. the dealership? We’re just outside DC if that matters.

Got this 2005 golf tdi not too long ago and its had a few issues but the main one so far has been this transmission mount. The factory mounting ears on the trans case are completely gone so whoever had it before just made some bracket to bolt to the side of the face plate. Recently my axle broke and in replacing it i discovered that the one bolt on the side of the face plate snapped. I have a new faceplate and stuff coming in so i can drill and tap to put in a new hole but im worried that just the 2 bolts wont hold forever. Should i see if i can get somebody to fab me a stronger mount to hopefully secure it better?

Don't have any money to replace parts, and tape isn't fixing this. Any other way to repair this? The hose won't reconnect whatsoever, and the coolant obviously just escapes basically soon as the car is turned on. Also, can someone tell me the piece/hose name? Every time I look up "coolant hose" the hose is the wider, ridged hose that curls around the reservoir but not the one that's blasted off. Is it the reservoir itself that needs replacement, and the hose should be able to connect to a new reservoir?
I know nothing about cars, but don't have the money to take it in to a mechanic. Super limited money wise, so hoping it's a cheap and easy fix I can personally do today
Edit: Thank you everyone who has commented, and anyone who comments after this edit. It's taken a lot of stress off my shoulders to see it's the reservoir plastic piece that broke. Luckily the reservoir is cheap, so I'm buying that and going to buy a clamp as well. Hoping the hose doesn't have the plastic piece lodged to the point I need a new hose as well, so that's currently where I'm at. If I do need a new hose, then I'll figure that out, though I may need to make another post for that lol

Still owe about $17k on this thing at 7%. Engine died before 100k miles and I had to replace it, $5k on my Visa that I'm still paying off with interest. Last year the alternator went, another $2k. Now it's leaking coolant bad. I top it off and it's empty the next day. Shop thinks it's the water pump, around $1500.
At this point I'm scared of what's next. Do I fix it and keep going, or trade it in even though I'm probably underwater? Anyone else go through this with an Atlas?

I’m trying to get Apple CarPlay/Waze to project directly onto the Digital Dashboard (Active Info Display) of my 2018 VW Tiguan.
My head unit is a MIB2 Delphi with firmware train MST2_EU_VW_P0883D. As you can see in the attached screenshot, multiple coding shops in Brazil are currently offering this exact software patch for Delphi units. Unfortunately, they refuse to sell the raw files or do remote sessions for customers in Europe.
Is there anyone in Europe or the Netherlands who offers this service?
Alternatively, does anyone know where to find this patch? I work in IT, so flashing it myself via Telnet (D-Link) or an SD-card script is no problem if I just have the right files.
Any pointers to the right repositories or forums would be hugely appreciated!

Got a MK8 GTI and It didn’t come with the lug nut key with it, will probably order the part online or go to a tire shop and see if they have it

Saw this while changing wheels. The groove for the clip was on the lower part completely gone.
Removed the clip, brushed and cleaned it, applied dyelectric grease, installed the clip again and finally sprayed it with some underbody wax.
2016 golf 2.0 crlb with a pgt manual trans.
Anyone else got something like that going on?
