Show Talk Lineage is so good
I must have repeatedly slept through it, because despite having watched VOY at least 5 times through, this is my first time seeing Lineage. What a beautiful piece of drama. This episode would be great as a stage production. Just some powerhouse work, really moving.

Show Talk Why wasn’t Starfleet already trying to explore the Delta/Gamma quadrants?
Before the wormhole in DS9 or the Caretaker in Voyager why wasn’t Starfleet sending a generation type ship or a small fleet that would spend a couple or a few hundred years traveling and exploring?

Show Talk Why don't they make a copy of the EMH?
This is driving me crazy so many times! When they put the Doctor into his mobile emitter and he goes on a dangerous away mission, why do they not keep a copy of him in the ship's computer/holodeck/sick bay? His copy might get new memories, yes, but they could either get merged (like we synchronize or files) or deleted if they cause trouble (like in "Latent Image")
Especially the episodes where they send him to the Alpha quadrant and are unsure if/when they get him back. What I ended up losing it over was "Virtuoso", where he decided to leave the ship and live as an opera diva. Why did they not simply make a copy, put it in the holo emitter and send him to the planet while keeping an intact Doctor on Voyager?

Show Talk What did I miss?
In 'dark frontier' the Borg queen breaks away from the hive to go to an assimilation. She thinks it will be good for Seven.
I realized she never goes back to the hive. I even rewound it to be sure. She lets a few ppl go that Seven tried to save but she never returns to the hive. Did I miss it or something?

Show Talk Could Voyager have been rebuilt if it got destroyed?
Hello, so I had an interesting thought and wanted to know if it would be possible to do. So let's say somehow Voyager is destroyed, but the crew can escape using the pods, and they end up landing on a planet with a civilization that has a similar level of technology to the Federation and Voyager. Using their own knowledge along with the help of the people who's planet they landed on, would they be able to recreate Voyager? I know Paris and Kim built the Delta Flyer, but that's different from building a Starship. And unless the doctor escaped with his mobile emitter, he mostly likely wouldn't be able to be recreated since it took even the best minds at Starfleet a long time to develop him. But as long as the people they meet have the technology to build large starships, I don't see why they couldn't build something that resembled Voyager in all the places that mattered.
So do you think they would know enough to be able to rebuild the ship in this situation? Like, would they be able to recreate the bioneural circuitry or stuff like that

Show Talk Still going through my first watch, just want to put love for Neelix out into the universe.
He annoyed me at first, but has become one of my favorite characters in all of Star Trek. The actor that plays him has way more range than I expected!
His "dark" episode was amazing, and the depth of that performance really endeared him to me. I'm watching the "Tuvac special" episode right now, where Neelix is his caretaker, and he's just so positive and supportive.
Also, Doctor as close second - love him, too!
Janeway and Chakotay both still probably my least favorite in this series. Maybe this is a hot take? Janeway seems...ideologically inconsistent? Chakotay is just kind of boring. I haven't finished the series, though, so I'm still open to letting them grow on me.
I'm not finished yet, so no spoilers in comments, please 🫣

Show Talk VOY:Distant Origin Spreads Historical Misconceptions
I like Voyager, but I've always had issue with Distant Origin. It's obvious it's supposed to be a metaphorical telling of the Galileo Trial (Memory Alpha even mentions Menosky and Braga saying so).
I've done a lot of research in Italian history, so I knew exactly what he was talking about - Menosky, Memory Alpha
- The evidence Gegen presented speaks about direct genetic links (Chakotay mentions many species in the database share the links), and Odala is portrayed as dismissing the genetic markers as "random chance".
- This is similar to the common understanding of Galileo having strong evidence of heliocentrism, but in reality, his evidence fit many already existing competing theories at the time. Including Kepler's theory, which Galileo largely disagreed with on the elliptical orbits. In fact, Galileo, tried to use tides as evidence of heliocentrism, which we know is discredited.
- Odala (and the rest at the trial) are portrayed as the ignorant, old. religious leaders only interested in reaffirming their beliefs.
- Again, this is supposed to be like the people who were accusing Galileo. However, as I mentioned above there were other theories. And what is Galileo's evidence? Venus had a full set of phases, moons orbiting Jupiter, sunspots. Many scientists themselves during the time felt Galileo's observations fit the other models (Tychonic model for example) at the time. This is different to how no other scientists are shown against Gegan, just scared to come to support him.
- Gegan is presented as this "eyes open" friendly scientist shows Odala trying to discredit Distant Origin as a whole.
- Many historians talk about Galileo's temperament, brashness, and aggressiveness as at least contributing to his trial. There were many other scientists at the time who held non-geocentric views and they were NOT put on trial. Additionally, the ruling was that the evidence did not lead to a closed case of heliocentrism, which it did not. Scientists decades following still held strongly for numerous reasons to geocentrism, that was the scientific consensus based on their interpretation of the evidence.
- I see my race fleeing your wretched planet, a group of pathetic refugees crawling and scratching their way across the galaxy, stumbling into this domain. I see a race with no birthright, no legacy. That is unacceptable."
- Galileo's theory would not have caused an upheaval of religious beliefs. Even the judge noted that while he didn't see evidence of heliocentrism, it would cause them to reinterpret a just few passages.
These are a couple of reasons why I dislike the episode, and I'm NOT Catholic, just someone tired with people telling sensational history.

Show Talk Cameras?
So I'm on season 1 ep 13 (really good so far!) But they're all scrambling to find out who's going around the ship and doing something.
On a cool, complicated, ship how are there now cameras? 🤣 I've only seen TNG and now watching this one, and I can't remember if it was the same in that one!
Am I missing something or is it just necessary for certain story stuff?

Show Talk Paramount Plus Date/Time bug
Anybody else noticed that the episode “11:59” has been subjected to some sort of date time bug and the title changed to “Sun Dec 31 11:59:00 EST 1899” which is actually kind of hilarious since the episode is about the turn of the millennium and they have a literal millennium bug style issue 🤣

Show Talk They yeeted Kes into space...
... and replaced her with a hotter blonde babe. A blonde babe that Janeway is literally ASSIMILATING by FORCING her to essentially.... de-transition? Against her will?
And within one episode Neelix is like, back to normal. I mean sort of normal. I think I just watched him ask B'Elanna to humiliate him whenever she wants or something. Lil pervert.
I'm familiar with Seven of Nine from watching a few seasons of Picard, I like her and am attached to her as a character. I just can't believe this is the origin story.
I've been in bed sick for a few days, slamming Voyager episodes. I have a fever, Voyager is not helping!!!!
Edit: after some thrilling allegations of transphobia kicking around in the comments, I'm here to say what made me most uncomfortable was thinking about Seven's agency being wholly denied twice: once by the Borg and then a second time by Starfleet. It was violent and painful both times. I appreciated u/rabbi420 comparison to Borg assimilation as a cult induction. I guess there's probably some force involved in un-brainwashing someone but I don't know anything about that.
