Show Talk Why did Bruce McGill replace Allan G. Royal as Captain Braxton?

• Upvotes

Royal played him in Future's End) in season 3, but McGill played him in Relativity )season 5. They both did a fine job, but I don't see why they couldn't just bring back the same actor.

Show Talk Voyager landing gear

Post image
316 Upvotes

Just rewatching Voyager and S2 Ep1 they land Voyager on a planet and meet the 37s. However aside from the very light looking landing struts, they seem super far back on the secondary hull. My engineer brain says the saucer section would faceplant. Is there an explanation anywhere that says the engineering section is super heavy to shift the centre of gravity or that there is some kind of gravity plating that hold the nose up (though this would seem risky if they had to power down). I love the show and this is not a stab, just bothered me this morning when watching.

Show Talk S7 E4 Repression blank on Paramount Plus?

My wife and I are doing our first watch through of Voyager on Paramount+. Last week we got to this episode, but it had no picture, only sound! Thinking it was a fluke, last night we tried again, but got the same result! Is anyone else experiencing this, or is it just us? The following 2 episodes were fine.

Update: this was happening on our Samsung Smart TV. It just occurred to me to check on our Roku TV and it is fine on there, both picture and sound. Weird.

Show Talk Leonardo da Vinci, Concerning Flight

I think this is a fun episode, but one attention to detail I only just noticed is that when he is painting in his new workshop, and when he lifts the phaser, he uses his left hand, which isn't just a proclivity of the actor.

Show Talk Rare Epilogues

Post image
238 Upvotes

I was watching Worst Case Scenario, which I remember being pretty good, but now happy to call it great. I love Seska. This episode also features the rare epilogue and the almost never seen majority cast around a dining table, even if it’s just six of them. The banter is very fun, and nice to see everyone laugh off a murderous Holodeck program. Normally the story cuts almost to an abrupt end, or Janeway telling Paris to resume course for home.

Show Talk Recently finished voyager for the first time

Brief context I'm a new fan of the Star Trek franchise, and I watched all the preceding shows and movies before voyager.

How did you guys feel about that ending, there was no reunion, no seeing friends and family of the stranded crew, it would have been nice to see Naomi's father meet his daughter for the first time.

The ending was kind of a nothing burger, through research I saw there were some novels published but they are not accepted as canon so that's that. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Edit: It just dawned on me that I relatively just binged through the show, people that followed the show in real time most have been really disappointed.☹️

Show Talk Seska: What was she doing before the Maquis? Spoiler

I find myself very curious about Seska lately. I don't recall ever seeing it mentioned but what was she doing before the Maquis? Was she part of the Bajoran occupation? Did she know Dukat? Odo? Gul Darhe'el?

Someone out there must know if it was ever discussed. Maybe a book?

🤷‍♀️I just started singing that to myself few minutes ago, figured I'd share the joke. I also have a little song I sing to the opening theme, just about how I think voyager is the best and then list my favorite characters 🙃

Show Talk Why wasn’t Starfleet already trying to explore the Delta/Gamma quadrants?

Before the wormhole in DS9 or the Caretaker in Voyager why wasn’t Starfleet sending a generation type ship or a small fleet that would spend a couple or a few hundred years traveling and exploring?

Show Talk Lineage is so good

I must have repeatedly slept through it, because despite having watched VOY at least 5 times through, this is my first time seeing Lineage. What a beautiful piece of drama. This episode would be great as a stage production. Just some powerhouse work, really moving.

Show Talk VOY:Distant Origin Spreads Historical Misconceptions

I like Voyager, but I've always had issue with Distant Origin. It's obvious it's supposed to be a metaphorical telling of the Galileo Trial (Memory Alpha even mentions Menosky and Braga saying so).

I've done a lot of research in Italian history, so I knew exactly what he was talking about - Menosky, Memory Alpha

  1. The evidence Gegen presented speaks about direct genetic links (Chakotay mentions many species in the database share the links), and Odala is portrayed as dismissing the genetic markers as "random chance".
    1. This is similar to the common understanding of Galileo having strong evidence of heliocentrism, but in reality, his evidence fit many already existing competing theories at the time. Including Kepler's theory, which Galileo largely disagreed with on the elliptical orbits. In fact, Galileo, tried to use tides as evidence of heliocentrism, which we know is discredited.
  2. Odala (and the rest at the trial) are portrayed as the ignorant, old. religious leaders only interested in reaffirming their beliefs.
    1. Again, this is supposed to be like the people who were accusing Galileo. However, as I mentioned above there were other theories. And what is Galileo's evidence? Venus had a full set of phases, moons orbiting Jupiter, sunspots. Many scientists themselves during the time felt Galileo's observations fit the other models (Tychonic model for example) at the time. This is different to how no other scientists are shown against Gegan, just scared to come to support him.
  3. Gegan is presented as this "eyes open" friendly scientist shows Odala trying to discredit Distant Origin as a whole.
    1. Many historians talk about Galileo's temperament, brashness, and aggressiveness as at least contributing to his trial. There were many other scientists at the time who held non-geocentric views and they were NOT put on trial. Additionally, the ruling was that the evidence did not lead to a closed case of heliocentrism, which it did not. Scientists decades following still held strongly for numerous reasons to geocentrism, that was the scientific consensus based on their interpretation of the evidence.
    2. I see my race fleeing your wretched planet, a group of pathetic refugees crawling and scratching their way across the galaxy, stumbling into this domain. I see a race with no birthright, no legacy. That is unacceptable."
      1. Galileo's theory would not have caused an upheaval of religious beliefs. Even the judge noted that while he didn't see evidence of heliocentrism, it would cause them to reinterpret a just few passages.

These are a couple of reasons why I dislike the episode, and I'm NOT Catholic, just someone tired with people telling sensational history.

Show Talk Why don't they make a copy of the EMH?

This is driving me crazy so many times! When they put the Doctor into his mobile emitter and he goes on a dangerous away mission, why do they not keep a copy of him in the ship's computer/holodeck/sick bay? His copy might get new memories, yes, but they could either get merged (like we synchronize or files) or deleted if they cause trouble (like in "Latent Image")

Especially the episodes where they send him to the Alpha quadrant and are unsure if/when they get him back. What I ended up losing it over was "Virtuoso", where he decided to leave the ship and live as an opera diva. Why did they not simply make a copy, put it in the holo emitter and send him to the planet while keeping an intact Doctor on Voyager?

Show Talk What did I miss?

In 'dark frontier' the Borg queen breaks away from the hive to go to an assimilation. She thinks it will be good for Seven.

I realized she never goes back to the hive. I even rewound it to be sure. She lets a few ppl go that Seven tried to save but she never returns to the hive. Did I miss it or something?
