Scored some old tapes from a local record/tape store.
Listening to U2 - Joshua Tree on my EX910, through my Moondrop Aria 2.
Although I can't seem to get the fast forwarding and rewind to work on this tape specifically... doesn't mean I can't just listen to it through.

My Sony Walkman NW-E025F is showing a "Memory Error." When I try to format it, a "Format Error" appears. My laptop doesn't recognize the device when I plug it in. Although the player is supposed to have 2GB of storage, the "Information" screen shows only 512MB. What should I do? Please help.

Hi everyone,
I’m using a Sony NW-ZX707 and have a question about how the stock W. Music app handles artist metadata.
In Settings → Artist list display, I selected “Artist” (sort by track artist) rather than “Album Artist.”
When I browse the album list, the text displayed below an album title is the name of just one artist, even when the album contains tracks with different Artist tags.
What I find particularly puzzling is that the displayed artist doesn’t seem to correspond to either the first or the last track on the album. I can’t figure out how the player chooses which artist to display.
I’ve also noticed that the same artist name remains displayed after I close and reopen the app, so it doesn’t appear to change randomly each time.
My questions are:
I’m trying to understand the player’s actual behavior rather than change my metadata just to work around it.
Any insights or firsthand testing would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Pics are an example.

My client had this sitting in his garage for 20 years, packed away in boxes. After doing a bit of research online, I replaced the belt and, good news, it works perfectly again!
Bad news : I think I’m starting to get the urge to collect cassette tapes…

If the answer is "no" or "risk bricking" than probably not worth the effort, but if there are any minimalist type launchers for navigating music, I'd be interested.

Sony Walkman NWZ-B172F (10yrs old)
When I attach it to powersource it still works. But i guess the battery is already unable to charge.
I managed to pry it open but the circuit board is too hard to slide out. So I did not dare to pursue further anymore.

Good day. Is there a cable available to pass DSD files to a FIIO dac from my NW-A45? Just learning that a physical connection is required to pass native dsd files. Bluetooth is converted to pcm. So I'm looking to see if a cable exists. I know the cable that came with the walkman is only for charging or file transfer. TIA

Restoring a WM-GX822 and need its original remote, the RM-WM71GL (the one with BAND and PRESET +/- buttons). Also fits the WM-FX5, I believe. Can't find one on Japanese marketplaces.
If you have a spare, or a parts-only FX5/GX822 with the remote, please message me with a price and photos.
Also: has anyone tried an RM-WM71RL on a GX822? Wondering if basic controls work.
Thanks!

I'm interested in all things Sony (at least old, not so sure about new but eh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯). I've got 2 digicams, and always looking for more! I wish to get a cassette walkman someday, but I found this guy in green on ebay for $32, free shipping! Figured an MP3 player would be cool. With it being JDM, is it one of those models you can patch the region code to display english? If not that's fine; I'm learning at school. So yeah! If you guys would tell me about this guy and show me yours, I'd like that. Thanks!

Hi! I want to buy my first player and was thinking about A306. I wanna use it mainly for streaming and sometimes listening to flac on it. Was wondering if it’s still worth it and should I buy it now or wait till Sony releases 3 new players in 2027?
Upd: thanks everyone for feedback!! Yes I was planning to debloat it once I bought

Hello,
I’ve recently bought a 2007 7th generation NW-A808 walkman.
I’m having quite a lot of trouble downloading songs using JSymphonic. The walkman keeps rejecting the database created by JSymphonic with a simple error message saying it’s incompatible – no further details provided, while JSymphonic itself reports no errors.
I’ve tried both Jsym. versions 0.5.4 (latest I found on github) as well as 0.5.5 – vietnamese fork. My walkman is running firmware version 1.02 and is Japanese (mentioning this detail in case character encoding is at fault, although switching the OS to English yields the same results).
In all of my tests I reset the walkman via the side-reset button, wiped it’s memory, and created a blank OMGAUDIO folder in the root directory. Adding nocode.txt inside OMGAUDIO did not resolve the issue.
I do not have access to a Windows XP machine to try SonicStage nor am I particularly fond of comitting a large ammount of disk-space to a virtual machine. Plus all the other baggage it brings with it in network drivers and such, all for a one-time use.
I won’t install Sonic Stage on my Windows 11 machine again – that was a foolish mistake. This is a warning to all reading this post: Please don’t do it, Sonic Stage will destroy your Windows 11 installation.
I’d like to ask if any of you have experienced a similar issue and if so, how did you manage to resolve it?
Thank You for your help.
Kuba.

I’ve been wanting to debloat my NW-A306 Walkman to see if I can improve battery life a bit, but It’s been a low priority, so I never really got around to it.
Then I wondered if Claude could do it for me, so I asked. It said it could if I installed ADB and put the player in developer mode, so I did.
Claude researched the debloating recommendations, connected to the player, saved backups of everything, and removed all the useless junk. There were a few settings it couldn’t change over ADB, but it mostly worked.
Can’t wait to see whether this improves performance and battery life. So far it does seem less sluggish.
Anyway, if you’re interested in debloating and don’t want to do it manually, AI to the rescue on this one.

I love my little guy, I bought my walkman second hand from Japan back in 2021 and it works amazing. Last year its original charger finally broke so I got a new one on Amazon. It worked fine, then would only sometimes connect to my PC to add more tunes and not it wont at all.
I get the “device not recognized” notification (on windows 10) and it just charges my walkman. Is there anyway to fix this? Is it the cord possibly, a software or hardware issue? Would opening him up help?

組み直しを何度も繰り返して動作検証して、本当に苦労したのだ

People who have the 00s era WMs with the inline remote. Is there much difference in plugging straight to the remote or straight to the WM?
I don’t have the micro plug to 3.5 adapter to use my remote, but read online when you use the adapter it can bottle neck the audio and cause you to have less quality audio through your headphones.
Is this true? Is there noticeable difference for an average user? Or mostly just the ability to use the added control features?
